Acceptable Offerings
17 Then[a] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 18 “Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the Israelites,[b] and say to them, ‘Anyone from the house of Israel or[c] from the alien in Israel who presents his offering for any of their vows or[d] for any of their freewill offerings that they present to Yahweh as a burnt offering, 19 it must be without defect to be acceptable for you:[e] a male among the cattle, among the sheep, or[f] among the goats. 20 You shall not present any animal in which is a physical defect, because it shall not be acceptable[g] for you. 21 And if anyone brings a sacrifice of fellowship offerings for Yahweh to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering from[h] the cattle or from[i] the flock,[j] it must be without defect to be acceptable;[k] there must not be any physical defect in it. 22 The blind or the injured or the maimed or the seeping or one with a skin disorder or one with a skin eruption—these you shall not present to Yahweh, nor shall you give from them an offering made by fire on the altar for Yahweh. 23 As for[l] an ox or sheep that is deformed or[m] that is stunted, you may present it as a freewill offering, but[n] for a vow it will not be accepted. 24 And you shall not present anything for Yahweh with bruised or[o] shattered or[p] torn or[q] cut-off testicles, and you shall not sacrifice[r] such in your land. 25 And you shall not present your God’s food from any of these by the hand of a foreigner,[s] because their deformity is in them; a physical defect is in them; they shall not be accepted for you.’”
26 Then[t] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 27 “When an ox or a sheep or a goat is born, then[u] it shall be under its mother for seven days, and from the eighth day and beyond it is acceptable as an offering made by fire for Yahweh. 28 And you shall not slaughter an ox or a sheep and its young[v] on the same day.[w] 29 And when you sacrifice a sacrifice of thanksgiving to Yahweh, you must sacrifice it to be acceptable for you. 30 It must be eaten on that day; you must not leave over anything from it until morning; I am Yahweh.
31 “Thus[x] you shall keep my commands, and you shall do them; I am Yahweh.
32 “And you shall not profane my holy name, so that I may be consecrated in the midst of the Israelites;[y] I am Yahweh, who consecrates you, 33 the one who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be as God for you; I am Yahweh.”
Yahweh’s Feasts
23 Then[z] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the Israelites,[aa] and say to them, ‘The festivals of Yahweh that you shall proclaim are holy assemblies; these are my appointed times.
Yahweh’s Sabbath
3 “‘For six days work is to be done, and on the seventh day shall be a Sabbath of complete rest,[ab] a holy assembly; you shall not do any work; it shall be a Sabbath for Yahweh in all your dwellings.
The Passover
4 “‘These are Yahweh’s appointed times, holy assemblies, which you shall proclaim at[ac] their appointed time. 5 In the first month, on the fourteenth of the month at the evening is Yahweh’s Passover. 6 And on the fifteenth day of this month is Yahweh’s Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. 7 On the first day there shall be a holy assembly for you; you shall not do any regular work.[ad] 8 And you shall present an offering for Yahweh made by fire for seven days; on the seventh day there shall be a holy assembly; you shall not do any regular work.’”[ae]
The Feast of Firstfruits
9 Then[af] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 10 “Speak to the Israelites,[ag] and say to them, ‘When you come to the land that I am about to give to you and you reap its harvest, then[ah] you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruit of your harvest to the priest. 11 And he shall wave the sheaf before[ai] Yahweh for your acceptance; the priest shall wave it on the day after[aj] the Sabbath. 12 And on the day of your waving the sheaf you shall offer[ak] a yearling[al] male lamb without defect as a burnt offering to Yahweh. 13 And its grain offering shall be two-tenths of an ephah[am] of finely milled flour mixed with oil, an offering made by fire for Yahweh, an appeasing fragrance; and its libation shall be a fourth of a hin[an] of wine. 14 And you shall not eat bread or[ao] roasted grain or[ap] ripe grain until this very same day,[aq] until you present your God’s offering. This must be a lasting statute[ar] for your generations in all your dwellings.
The Feast of Weeks
15 “‘And you shall count for yourselves from the day after[as] the Sabbath, from the day of your bringing the wave offering’s sheaf—there shall be seven full weeks. 16 Until the day after[at] the seventh Sabbath you shall count fifty days; then[au] you shall present a new grain offering for Yahweh. 17 You shall bring from your dwellings for a wave offering two loaves of bread made with[av] two-tenths of an ephah[aw] of finely milled flour; they must be baked with leaven—the firstfruits belonging to[ax] Yahweh. 18 And, in addition to the bread, you shall present seven yearling[ay] male lambs without defects and one young bull[az] and two rams—they shall be a burnt offering for Yahweh with[ba] their grain offering and their libations, an offering made by fire, an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh. 19 And you shall offer[bb] one he-goat as a sin offering and two yearling[bc] male lambs as a sacrifice of fellowship offerings. 20 And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits as a wave offering before[bd] Yahweh; in addition to the two male lambs, they shall be holy for Yahweh for the priest. 21 And you shall make a proclamation[be] on this very same day;[bf] it shall be a holy assembly for you; you shall not do any regular work;[bg] this is a lasting statute[bh] in all your dwellings throughout[bi] your generations. 22 And when you[bj] reap the harvest of your[bk] land, you[bl] must not finish the edge of your[bm] field at your reaping, and you[bn] must not glean the remnants of your[bo] harvest—you[bp] shall leave them behind for the needy and for the alien; I am Yahweh your[bq] God.’”
The Feast of Trumpets
23 Then[br] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the Israelites,[bs] saying, ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you must have[bt] a rest period, a remembrance of the trumpet blast, a holy assembly. 25 You must not do any regular work,[bu] and you shall present an offering made by fire to Yahweh.’”
The Day of Atonement
26 Then[bv] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 27 “Surely the Day of Atonement is on the tenth day of the seventh month; it shall be a holy assembly for you, and you shall deny yourselves, and you shall present an offering made by fire to Yahweh. 28 And you must not do any regular work[bw] on this very same day,[bx] because it is the Day of Atonement to make atonement for you before[by] Yahweh your God. 29 If there is any person who does not deny himself on this very same day,[bz] then[ca] he shall be cut off from his people. 30 As for[cb] any person who does any work on this very same day,[cc] I will exterminate that person from the midst of his people. 31 You must not do any work; it is a lasting statute[cd] throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 32 It is a Sabbath of complete rest[ce] for you, and you shall deny yourselves on the ninth day of the month in the evening—from evening to evening you must observe your extraordinary[cf] Sabbath.”
The Feast of Booths
33 Then[cg] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 34 “Speak to the Israelites,[ch] saying, ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, this shall be the Feast of Booths for seven days for Yahweh. 35 On the first day there shall be a holy assembly; you must not do any regular work.[ci] 36 For seven days you must present an offering made by fire to Yahweh. On the eighth day it shall be a holy assembly for you, and you shall present an offering made by fire to Yahweh; it is a celebration; you must not do any regular work.[cj]
Summary
37 “‘These are Yahweh’s festivals, which you must proclaim, holy assemblies to present an offering made by fire to Yahweh—burnt offering and grain offering, sacrifice and libations, each on its proper day[ck]— 38 besides[cl] Yahweh’s Sabbaths and besides[cm] your gifts and besides[cn] your vows and besides[co] all your freewill offerings that you give to Yahweh.
39 “‘Surely on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, at your gathering the land’s produce, you shall hold Yahweh’s festival for seven days; on the first day there shall be a rest period and on the eighth day a rest period. 40 And on the first day you shall take for yourselves the first fruit of majestic trees, branches of palm trees and branches[cp] of a leafy tree and of a brook’s poplar trees, and you shall rejoice before[cq] Yahweh your God for seven days. 41 And you must hold it as a festival for Yahweh for seven days in the year; it shall be a lasting statute[cr] throughout your generations; in the seventh month you must hold it. 42 You must live in the booths for seven days; all the natives in Israel must live in the booths, 43 so that your generations shall know that I made the Israelites[cs] live in booths when I brought them from the land of Egypt; I am Yahweh your God.’”
44 Thus[ct] Moses announced to the Israelites[cu] Yahweh’s appointed times.
Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection a Second Time
30 And from there they went out and[a] passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, 31 for he was teaching his disciples and was telling them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he[b] is killed, after three days he will rise.” 32 But they did not understand the statement, and they were afraid to ask him.
The Question About Who Is Greatest
33 And they came to Capernaum. And after he[c] was in the house, he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34 But they were silent, because they had argued with one another on the way about who was greatest. 35 And he sat down and[d] called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he will be last of all and servant of all.” 36 And he took a young child and[e] had him stand among them.[f] And taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of the young children such as these in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me, but the one who sent me.”
Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us
38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone expelling demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” 39 But Jesus said, “Do not prevent him, because there is no one who does a miracle in my name and will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. 40 For whoever is not against us is for us. 41 For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in my name because you are Christ’s, truly I say to you that he will never lose his reward.
Temptations to Sin
42 “And whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it is better for him if instead a large millstone[g] is placed around his neck and he is thrown into the sea. 43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better for you to enter into life crippled than, having two hands, to go into hell—into the unquenchable fire![h] 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better for you to enter into life lame than, having two feet, to be thrown into hell![i] 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out! It is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than, having two eyes, to be thrown into hell, 48 ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not extinguished.’[j] 49 For everyone will be salted with fire. 50 Salt is good, but if the salt becomes deprived of its salt content, by what can you make it salty? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
On Divorce
10 And from there he set out and[k] came to the region of Judea and the other side of the Jordan, and again crowds came together to him. And again, as he was accustomed to do,[l] he began to teach[m] them. 2 And they asked[n] him if it was permitted for a man to divorce his[o] wife, in order to[p] test him. 3 And he answered and[q] said to them, “What did Moses command you?” 4 So they said, “Moses permitted a man[r] to write a certificate of divorce and to send her[s] away.” 5 But Jesus said to them, “He wrote this commandment for you because of your hardness of heart. 6 But from the beginning of creation ‘he made them male and female.[t] 7 Because of this a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife,[u] 8 and the two will become one flesh,’[v] so that they are no longer two but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate.”
10 And in the house again the disciples began to ask[w] him about this. 11 And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. 12 And if she divorces her husband and[x] marries another, she commits adultery.”
Present Defeat and Past Deliverance
For the music director. Of the sons of Korah. A maskil.[a]
44 O God, we have heard with our ears;
our ancestors[b] have told us
of work you worked in their days,
in days of old.
2 You with your hand drove out the nations,
but them[c] you planted.
You harmed the peoples,
but them[d] you let spread out.
3 For not with their sword
did they possess the land,
and their arm did not give them victory.
Rather it was your right hand and your arm
and the light of your presence,
because you delighted in them.
4 You are my king, O God.
Command[e] victories for Jacob.
5 By you we push down our enemies;
by your name we tread down those who rise up against us.
6 For I do not trust my bow,
and my sword cannot give me victory.
7 Rather you have saved us from our enemies,[f]
and have humiliated those who hate us.
8 In God we boast all the day,
and we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah

but he who restrains his lips is prudent.
