Additional Laws for Burnt Offerings
6 [a] Then[b] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “When a person[c] displays infidelity[d] against Yahweh and he deceives his fellow citizen regarding[e] something entrusted or a pledge[f] or stealing or he exploits his fellow citizen, 3 or he finds lost property and lies about it and swears falsely[g] in regard to[h] any one of these things by which a person[i] might commit sin, 4 and when[j] he sins and is guilty, then[k] he shall bring back the things he had stolen[l] or what he had extorted[m] or something with which he had been entrusted[n] or the lost property that he had found, 5 or regarding[o] anything about which he has sworn falsely,[p] then[q] he shall repay it according to[r] its value and shall add one-fifth of its value to it—he must give it to whom it belongs[s] on the day of his guilt offering. 6 And he must bring as his guilt offering to Yahweh a ram without defect from the flock[t] by your valuation[u] as a guilt offering to the priest, 7 and the priest shall make atonement for him before[v] Yahweh, and he shall be forgiven anything[w] from all that he might do by which he might incur guilt.”[x]
8 Then[y] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 9 “Command Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the regulation of the burnt offering: The burnt offering must remain on the hearth[z] on the altar all night until the morning, and the altar’s fire must be kept burning on it. 10 And the priest shall put on his linen robe, and he must put his linen undergarments on his body, and he shall take away the fatty ashes of the burnt offering that the fire has consumed on the altar, and he shall place them[aa] beside the altar. 11 And he shall take off his garments and put on other garments, and he shall bring out the fatty ashes outside the camp[ab] to a ceremonially clean place, 12 but[ac] the fire on the altar must be kept burning on it; it must not be quenched. And the priest must burn wood every morning[ad] on it,[ae] and he shall arrange the burnt offering on it,[af] and he shall turn into smoke the fat portions of the fellowship offerings on it.[ag] 13 A perpetual fire must be kept burning on the altar; it must not be quenched.
Additional Laws for Grain Offerings
14 “‘And this is the regulation of the grain offering. Aaron’s sons shall present it before[ah] Yahweh in front of[ai] the altar, 15 and he[aj] in his fist shall take away from it some of[ak] the grain offering’s finely milled flour, and some of[al] its oil and all of the frankincense that is on the grain offering, and he shall turn into smoke its token portion on the altar as an appeasing fragrance to Yahweh. 16 And Aaron and his sons must eat the remainder of it; they must eat it as unleavened bread in a holy place—in the tent of assembly’s courtyard they must eat it. 17 It must not be baked with yeast. I have given it as their share from my offerings made by fire. It is a most holy thing,[am] like the sin offering and like the guilt offering. 18 Every male among Aaron’s sons may eat it as a lasting rule among your generations from the offerings made by fire belonging to[an] Yahweh. Anything that[ao] touches them will become holy.’”
19 Then[ap] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 20 “This is the offering of Aaron and his sons that they shall present to Yahweh on the day of his being anointed: a tenth of an[aq] ephah of finely milled flour as a perpetual grain offering, half of it in the morning and half of it in the evening. 21 It must be made[ar] in[as] oil on a flat baking pan; you[at] must bring it well-mixed; you must present pieces of a grain offering’s baked goods[au] as an appeasing fragrance to Yahweh. 22 And the anointed priest taking his place from among his sons must do it. As a lasting rule, it must be turned into smoke totally for Yahweh. 23 And every grain offering of a priest must be a whole burnt offering; it must not be eaten.”
Additional Laws for Sin Offerings
24 Then[av] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 25 “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the regulation of the sin offering: In the place where the sin offering is slaughtered, the sin offering must be slaughtered before[aw] Yahweh; it is a most holy thing.[ax] 26 The priest who offers the sin offering[ay] must eat it in a holy place—in the tent of assembly’s courtyard. 27 Anything that[az] touches its flesh will become holy, and when some of[ba] its blood spatters on a[bb] garment, what was spattered on it you[bc] shall wash in a holy place. 28 And a clay vessel in which it was boiled must be broken, but[bd] if it was boiled in a bronze vessel, then[be] it shall be thoroughly scoured and rinsed with water. 29 Any male among the priests may eat it; it is a most holy thing.[bf] 30 But[bg] any sin offering from which some of[bh] its blood is brought to the tent of assembly to make atonement in the sanctuary must not be eaten; it must be burned in the fire.’”
Additional Laws for Guilt Offerings
7 “‘And this is the regulation of the guilt offering; it is a most holy thing.[bi] 2 In the place where they slaughter the burnt offering,[bj] they must slaughter the guilt offering,[bk] and he[bl] must sprinkle its blood upon the altar all around. 3 And he must present all of its fat:[bm] the fat tail and the fat that covers the inner parts,[bn] 4 and the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and he must remove the lobe on the liver in addition to the kidneys. 5 And the priest shall turn it into smoke it on the altar as a food offering made by fire for Yahweh; it is a guilt offering. 6 Every male among the priests may eat it; it must be eaten in a holy place; it is a most holy thing.[bo] 7 The instruction is the same for the guilt offering as for the sin offering;[bp] it belongs to[bq] the priest, who makes atonement with it.
Portions for the Priests
8 “‘And[br] the priest who presents a person’s[bs] burnt offering, to that[bt] priest belongs[bu] the skin of the burnt offering that he presented. 9 And every grain offering that is baked in the oven and all that is prepared in a[bv] cooking pan or[bw] on a flat baking pan belongs to[bx] the priest who presented it. 10 And every grain offering, whether mixed with oil or dry, shall be for all of Aaron’s sons equally.[by]
Additional Laws for Fellowship Offerings
11 “‘And this is the regulation of the fellowship offerings that he must present to Yahweh: 12 If he presents it for thanksgiving, in addition to the thanksgiving sacrifice he shall present ring-shaped unleavened bread mixed with oil and unleavened bread wafers smeared with oil and well-mixed ring-shaped bread cakes of finely milled flour mixed with oil. 13 In addition to ring-shaped cakes of bread with yeast, he must present his grain[bz] offering together with[ca] his sacrifice of thanksgiving peace offerings. 14 And he shall present one of each kind of grain[cb] offering as a contribution for Yahweh; it belongs to[cc] the priest who sprinkles the fellowship offerings’ blood. 15 And the meat of the sacrifice of his thanksgiving fellowship offerings must be eaten on the day of his offering; he must not leave it until morning.
16 “‘But[cd] if his sacrifice is for a vow or as a freewill offering, it must be eaten on the day of his presenting his sacrifice, and on the next day the remainder[ce] from it may be eaten, 17 but[cf] the remainder from the sacrifice’s meat must be burned up in the fire on the third day. 18 And if indeed some of the meat of his fellowship offerings’ sacrifice is eaten on the third day, it will not be accepted; it will not be considered of benefit for the one who presented it—it shall be unclean meat, and the person[cg] who eats it shall bear his guilt. 19 And the meat that touches anything unclean must not be eaten; it must be burned with fire, and as for the clean[ch] meat, anyone who is clean may eat the meat. 20 And the person[ci] who eats meat from the fellowship offerings’ sacrifice, which is for Yahweh, and whose uncleanness is upon him—that person[cj] shall be cut off from his people. 21 And when a person[ck] touches anything unclean, whether human uncleanness or an unclean animal or any unclean detestable thing, and he eats from the meat of the fellowship offerings’ sacrifice, which is for Yahweh, then[cl] that person[cm] shall be cut off from his people.’”
Instructions for the People
22 Then[cn] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 23 “Speak to the Israelites,[co] saying, ‘You[cp] must not eat any fat of ox, or[cq] sheep, or[cr] goat; 24 and a dead body’s fat or[cs] mangled carcass’s fat may be used for any purpose,[ct] but[cu] you[cv] certainly must not eat it. 25 When anyone eats fat from the domestic animal from which he presented an offering made by fire for Yahweh, then[cw] that person[cx] who ate shall be cut off from his people. 26 And in any of your[cy] dwellings, you must not eat any blood belonging to[cz] birds[da] or[db] domestic animals.[dc] 27 Any person[dd] who eats any blood, that person[de] shall be cut off from his people.’”
Jesus Heals Crowds by the Sea
7 And Jesus went away with his disciples to the sea,[a] and a great crowd from Galilee followed him.[b] And from Judea 8 and from Jerusalem and from Idumea and the other side of the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon a great crowd came to him because they[c] heard all that he was doing. 9 And he told his disciples that a small boat should stand ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not press upon him. 10 For he had healed many, so that all those who were suffering from diseases[d] pressed about him in order that they could touch him. 11 And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, were falling down before him and crying out, saying, “You are the Son of God!” 12 And he warned them strictly that they should not make him known.
The Selection of the Twelve Apostles
13 And he went up on the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted, and they came to him. 14 And he appointed twelve,[e] so that they would be with him and so that he could send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to expel demons. 16 And he appointed the twelve.[f] And to Simon he gave the name Peter, 17 and James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (and he gave to them the name Boanerges, that is, “Sons of Thunder”), 18 and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot,[g] 19 and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
A House Divided Cannot Stand
20 And he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they were not even able to eat a meal. 21 And when[h] his family[i] heard this,[j] they went out to restrain him, for they were saying, “He has lost his mind!”
22 And the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul!” and “By the ruler of the demons he expels the demons!” 23 And he called them to himself and[k] was speaking to them in parables, “How can Satan expel Satan? 24 And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom is not able to stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he is not able to stand, but is at an end! 27 But no one is able to enter into the house of a strong man and[l] plunder his property unless he first ties up the strong man, and then he can thoroughly plunder his house.
28 “Truly I say to you that all the sins and the blasphemies will be forgiven the sons of men, however much they blaspheme. 29 But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit does not have forgiveness forever,[m] but is guilty of an eternal sin”— 30 because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”
The Protection of the Righteous and the Destruction of the Wicked
Of David.[a]
37 Do not fret because of evildoers;
do not be envious of doers of wickedness.
2 For like the grass they will dry up quickly,
and like green vegetation they will wither.
3 Trust Yahweh and do good.
Abide in the land and feed on faithfulness.[b]
4 Take pleasure in Yahweh as well,
and he will give to you the requests of your heart.
5 Commit to[c] Yahweh your way;
Trust also on him and he will act.
6 Then he will bring forth your righteousness like the light,
and your justice like the noonday.
7 Be quiet before Yahweh and wait for him.
Do not fret about one who succeeds in his way,
about a man making plots.
8 Refrain from anger and forsake wrath.
Do not fret; it only brings evil.
9 For evildoers will be cut off,
but those who wait for Yahweh—
they will possess the land.
10 And[d] yet a little while and the wicked will not be,
and you will look carefully upon his place, but he will not be.
11 But the afflicted will possess the land,
and they will take pleasure in an abundance of peace.
3 Yahweh will not cause a righteous person[a] to go hungry,
but the craving of the wicked he will thwart.
4 A slack hand causes poverty,
but the hand of the diligent enriches.
