Portions of Fellowship Offerings for Priests
28 Then[a] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 29 “Speak to the Israelites,[b] saying, ‘The one who presents his fellowship offerings’ sacrifice for Yahweh shall bring his offering to Yahweh from his fellowship offerings’ sacrifice. 30 His own hands must bring Yahweh’s offerings made by fire. He must bring the fat in addition to the breast section to wave the breast section as a wave offering before Yahweh, 31 and the priest shall turn the fat into smoke on the altar, and the breast section shall be for Aaron and his[c] sons. 32 And the right upper thigh you[d] must give as a contribution for the priest from your[e] fellowship offerings’ sacrifice. 33 As for the one from Aaron’s sons who presents the blood of the fellowship offerings and the fat, the right upper thigh shall belong to him[f] as his share, 34 because I have taken the wave offering’s breast section and the contribution offering’s upper thigh from the Israelites[g] out of their fellowship offerings’ sacrifices, and I have given them to Aaron the priest and his[h] sons from the Israelites[i] as a lasting rule.’”
35 This is Aaron’s allotted portion and his sons’ allotted portion from Yahweh’s offerings made by fire when[j] he brought them forward to serve as priests for Yahweh. 36 This is what Yahweh commanded to give them from the Israelites[k] on the day of his anointing them; it is a lasting statute for their generations.
Concluding Summary Concerning the Offerings
37 This is the regulation for the burnt offering, for the grain offering and for the sin offering and for the guilt offering and for the consecration offering and for the fellowship offerings’ sacrifice, 38 which Yahweh commanded Moses on Mount Sinai[l] on the day of his commanding the Israelites[m] to present their offerings to Yahweh in the desert of Sinai.
Installing the Priests
8 Then[n] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments and the anointing oil and the bull of the sin offering and the two rams and the basket of the unleavened bread, 3 and summon all of the community to the entrance to[o] the tent of assembly.” 4 So[p] Moses did just as Yahweh commanded him, and the community gathered by the entrance to[q] the tent of assembly.
5 Then[r] Moses said to the community, “This is the word that Yahweh has commanded to be done.”[s]
6 So[t] Moses brought Aaron and his sons near, and he washed them with water. 7 Then[u] he put the tunic on him and tied[v] the sash around him; then[w] he clothed him with the robe and put[x] the ephod on him; then[y] he tied the ephod’s waistband around him and fastened[z] the ephod[aa] to him with it. 8 Then[ab] he placed the breastpiece on him and put[ac] the Urim and the Thummim into the breastpiece; 9 and he placed the turban on his head, and on the front of[ad] the turban he placed the gold rosette, the holy diadem, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses.
10 Then[ae] Moses took the anointing oil and anointed[af] the tabernacle and all that was in it, and he consecrated them. 11 And he spattered part of[ag] it on the altar seven times—thus[ah] he anointed the altar and all of its utensils, and the basin and its stand, to consecrate them. 12 Then[ai] he poured out part of[aj] the anointing oil on Aaron’s head—thus[ak] he anointed him in order to consecrate him. 13 Then[al] Moses brought Aaron’s sons near and clothed[am] them with tunics and tied[an] a sash around each one,[ao] and he bound headbands on[ap] them, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses.
The Offerings for Consecration
14 Then[aq] he brought forth the bull of the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons placed their hands on the head of the bull of the sin offering, 15 and he slaughtered it, and Moses took the blood and put[ar] it with his finger on the altar’s horns all around and purified the altar; then[as] he poured the blood out on the altar’s base—thus[at] he consecrated it in order to make atonement for it.[au] 16 Then[av] he took all the fat that was on the inner parts[aw] and the lobe on the liver and the two kidneys and their fat, and Moses turned them into smoke on the altar, 17 but[ax] he burned the bull and its skin and its meat and its offal in the fire outside the camp,[ay] just as Yahweh had commanded Moses.
18 Then[az] he brought the ram of the burnt offering near, and Aaron and his sons placed their hands on the ram’s head, 19 and he slaughtered it. Then[ba] Moses sprinkled the blood on the altar all around. 20 Then[bb] he cut the ram into pieces, and Moses turned into smoke the head and the pieces and the suet, 21 but[bc] he washed the inner parts[bd] and the lower leg bones with water, and Moses turned into smoke all of the ram on the altar; it was a burnt offering as an appeasing fragrance, an offering made by fire for[be] Yahweh, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses.
22 Then[bf] he brought the second ram near, the ram of the consecration, and Aaron and his sons placed their hands on the ram’s head, 23 and he slaughtered it. Then[bg] Moses took some of[bh] its blood and put[bi] it on Aaron’s right ear lobe and on his right hand’s thumb and on his right foot’s big toe. 24 Then[bj] he brought Aaron’s sons near, and Moses put some of[bk] the blood on their right ear lobe and on their right hand’s thumb and on their right foot’s big toe, and Moses sprinkled the blood on the altar all around.
25 Then[bl] he took the fat and the fat tail and all of the fat that was on the inner parts[bm] and the lobe of the liver and the two kidneys and their fat and the right upper thigh; 26 and from the basket of the unleavened bread that was before Yahweh he took one ring-shaped unleavened bread and one ring-shaped bread with[bn] oil and one wafer, and he placed them on the fat parts[bo] and on the right upper thigh. 27 Then[bp] he put all of these[bq] on Aaron’s palms and on his sons’ palms, and he waved them as a wave offering before[br] Yahweh. 28 Then[bs] Moses took them from upon their palms, and he turned them into smoke upon the burnt offering on the altar; they were a consecration offering as an appeasing fragrance—it was an offering made by fire for[bt] Yahweh. 29 Then[bu] Moses took the breast section, and he waved it as a wave offering before[bv] Yahweh from the ram of the consecration offering; it was Moses’ share, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses.
Anointing the Priests and Their Garments
30 Then[bw] Moses took some of[bx] the anointing oil and some of[by] the blood that was on the altar, and he spattered them on Aaron, on his garments, and on Aaron’s sons and on his sons’ garments with him—thus[bz] he consecrated Aaron, his garments, and his sons and his sons’ garments with him.
31 Then[ca] Moses said to Aaron and to his sons, “Boil the meat in the entrance to[cb] the tent of assembly, and there you must eat it and the bread that is in the basket of the consecration offering, just as I have commanded, saying, ‘Aaron and his sons must eat it,’ 32 but[cc] the remainder of the meat and the bread you[cd] must burn in the fire. 33 And you must not go out from the entrance to[ce] the tent of assembly for seven days, until the day of fulfilling the days of your[cf] consecration, because it will take seven days to ordain you.[cg] 34 Just as was done[ch] on this day, Yahweh commanded to be done[ci] in order to make atonement for you.[cj] 35 And you[ck] must stay at the entrance to[cl] the tent of assembly day and night for seven days, and you[cm] shall keep the obligation from[cn] Yahweh, so you[co] might not die, for thus I have been commanded.” 36 So[cp] Aaron and his sons did all the things that Yahweh had commanded through[cq] Moses.
Worship at the Tent of Assembly
9 Then[cr] on the eighth day Moses summoned Aaron and his sons and Israel’s elders, 2 and he said to Aaron, “Take for yourself a bull calf[cs] as a sin offering and a ram as a burnt offering, without defect,[ct] and present them before[cu] Yahweh. 3 Then[cv] you[cw] must speak to the Israelites,[cx] saying, ‘Take a he-goat[cy] as a sin offering and a bull calf and a male sheep, yearlings[cz] without defect,[da] as a burnt offering, 4 and an ox and a ram as fellowship offerings to sacrifice before[db] Yahweh, and a grain offering mixed with oil, because today Yahweh will appear to you.”[dc] 5 So[dd] they took what Moses had commanded to the front of[de] the tent of assembly, and the whole community presented themselves, and they stood before[df] Yahweh.
6 Then[dg] Moses said, “This is the word that Yahweh commanded you[dh] to do so that[di] the glory of Yahweh might appear to you.”[dj]
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
31 And his mother and his brothers arrived, and standing outside, they sent word to him to summon him. 32 And a crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers[a] are outside looking for you.” 33 And he answered them and[b] said, “Who is my mother or[c] my brothers?” 34 And looking around at those who were sitting around him in a circle, he said, “Behold, my mother and my brothers! 35 For whoever does the will of God, this person is my brother and sister and mother.”
The Parable of the Sower
4 And again he began to teach beside the sea,[d] and a very large crowd was gathered to him, so that he got into a boat and[e] sat on the sea, and the whole crowd was at the sea on the land. 2 And he began to teach[f] them many things in parables, and was saying to them in his teaching, 3 “Listen! Behold, the sower went out to sow. 4 And it happened that while he was sowing, some seed[g] fell on the side of the path, and the birds came and devoured it. 5 And other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil, and it sprang up at once, because it did not have any depth of soil. 6 And when the sun rose it was scorched, and because it did not have enough root, it withered. 7 And other seed fell among the thorn plants, and the thorn plants came up and choked it, and it did not produce grain.[h] 8 And other seed fell on the good soil, and produced grain,[i] coming up and increasing, and it bore a crop[j]—one thirty and one sixty and one a hundred times as much.[k] 9 And he said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear!”
The Reason for the Parables
10 And when he was alone, those around him together with the twelve began asking[l] him about the parables. 11 And he said to them, “To you has been granted the secret of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outside everything is in parables, 12 so that
‘they may look closely[m] and not perceive,
and they may listen carefully[n] and not understand,
lest they turn and it be forgiven them.’”[o]
The Parable of the Sower Interpreted
13 And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? And how will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones beside the path where the word is sown, and whenever they hear it,[p] immediately Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 And these are like[q] the ones sown on the rocky ground, who whenever they hear the word immediately receive it with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, but are temporary. Then when[r] affliction or persecution comes because of the word, immediately they fall away. 18 And others are the ones sown among the thorn plants—these are the ones who hear the word, 19 and the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and[s] choke the word and it becomes unproductive. 20 And those are the ones sown on the good soil, who hear the word and receive it[t] and bear fruit—one thirty and one sixty and one a hundred times as much.”[u]
The Parable of the Lamp
21 And he said to them, “Surely a lamp is not brought so that it may be put under a bushel basket or under a bed, is it?[v] Is it not[w] so that it may be put on a lampstand? 22 For nothing is secret except so that it may be revealed, nor has become hidden except so that it will come to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!” 24 And he said to them, “Take care what you hear! With the measure by which you measure out, it will be measured out to you, and will be added to you. 25 For whoever has, more will be given to him, and whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”
12 The wicked plans evil against the righteous,
and gnashes at him with his teeth.
13 The Lord laughs at him,
for he sees that his day is coming.
14 The wicked have drawn the sword and have bent their bow
to throw down the poor and the needy,
to kill those upright in their way.
15 Their sword will enter into their own heart,
and their bows shall be broken.
16 The little belonging to the righteous is better
than the wealth of many wicked.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
but Yahweh supports the righteous.
18 Yahweh knows the days of the blameless,
and their inheritance will be forever.
19 They will not be put to shame in distressing times,[a]
and in the days of famine they will be satisfied.
20 But the wicked will perish,
and the enemies of Yahweh will be like the splendor of the pastures.
They vanish; in smoke they vanish.
21 The wicked borrows and does not repay,
but the righteous is gracious and gives.
22 For those blessed by him shall possess the land,
but those cursed by him shall be cut off.
23 The steps of a man are established by Yahweh,
and he takes pleasure in his way.
24 Though he fall, he will not be cast headlong,
for Yahweh supports him with his hand.
25 I was a youth, but I am now old;
yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
or his children begging for[b] bread.
26 All the day he is gracious and lends,
and his children are a blessing.
27 Turn aside from evil and do good
and so abide forever.
28 For Yahweh loves justice
and will not forsake his faithful ones.
They are protected forever.
But the children of the wicked will be cut off.
29 The righteous will possess the land
and abide in it forever.
5 He who gathers in the summer is a child who is prudent;
he who sleeps at the harvest is a child who brings shame.
