Exodus 11:1-12:21

11 1 God promiseth their departure. 2 He willeth them to borrow their neighbors’ jewels. 3 Moses was esteemed of all save Pharaoh.

Now the Lord had said unto Moses, yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt, after that, he will let you go hence: when he letteth you go, he shall [a]at once chase you hence.

Speak thou now to the people, that every man [b]require of his neighbor, and every woman of her neighbor, (A)jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.

And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians: also Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants, and in the sight of the people.

And Moses said, Thus saith the Lord, (B)About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt.

And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth on his throne, unto the firstborn of the maid servant, that is at [c]the mill, and all the firstborn of beasts.

Then there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as was never none like, nor shall be.

But against none of the children of Israel shall a dog move his tongue, neither against man nor beast, that ye may know that the Lord putteth a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and fall before me, saying, Get thee out, and all the people that [d]are at thy feet, and after this will I depart. So he went out from Pharaoh very angry.

And the Lord said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not hear you, [e]that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.

10 So Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: but the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he suffered not the children of Israel to go out of his land.

12 1 The Lord instituteth the passover. 26 The fathers must teach their children the mystery thereof.  29 The firstborn are slain. 31 The Israelites are driven out of the land. 35 The Egyptians are spoiled. 37 The number that departeth out of Egypt.

Then the Lord spake to Moses and to Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

This [f]month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be to you the first [g]month of the year.

Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth of this month let every man take unto him a lamb, according to the house of the [h]fathers, a lamb for an house.

And if the household be too little for the lamb, he shall take his neighbor, which is next unto his house, according to the number of the persons: every one of you, according to his [i]eating shall make your count for the lamb.

Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of a year old: ye shall take it of the lambs, or of the kids.

And ye shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month: then [j]all the multitude of the congregation of Israel shall kill it [k]at even.

After, they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two posts, and on the upper doorpost of the houses where they shall eat it.

And they shall eat the flesh that same night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread: with sour herbs they shall eat it.

Eat not thereof raw, boiled nor sodden in water, but roast with fire, both his [l]head, his feet, and his purtenance.

10 And ye shall reserve nothing of it unto the morning: but that, which remaineth of it unto the morrow shall ye burn with fire.

11 ¶ And thus shall ye eat it, Your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staves in your hands, and ye shall eat it in haste: for [m]it is the Lord’s Passover.

12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt the same night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast, and I will execute judgment upon all the [n]gods of Egypt, I am the Lord.

13 And the blood shall be a token for you upon the houses where ye are: so when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destruction, when I smite the land of Egypt.

14 And this day shall be unto you a [o]remembrance: and ye shall keep it an holy feast unto the Lord, throughout your generations: ye shall keep it holy by an ordinance [p]forever.

15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread, and in any case ye shall put away leaven the first day out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.

16 And in the first day shall be an holy [q]assembly: also in the seventh day shall be an holy assembly unto you: no work shall be done in them, save about that which every man must eat: that only may ye do.

17 Ye shall keep also the feast of unleavened bread: for that same day I will bring your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore ye shall observe this day, throughout your posterity, by an ordinance forever.

18 (C)In the first month and the fourteenth day of the month at [r]even, ye shall eat unleavened bread unto the one and twentieth day of the month at even.

19 Seven days shall no leaven be found in your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread, that person shall be cut off from the Congregation of Israel: whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.

20 Ye shall eat no leavened bread: but in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.

21 ¶ Then Moses called all the Elders of Israel, and said unto them, Choose out and take you for every of your households a lamb, and kill the Passover.

Luke 14

14 The dropsy healed on the Sabbath. 8 The chief place: at banquets. 12 The poor must be called to our feasts. 16 Of those that were bid to the great supper. 23 Some compelled to come in. 28 One about to build a tower.

And [a]it came to pass that when he was entered into the house of [b]one of the chief Pharisees on the Sabbath day, to eat bread, they watched him.

And behold, there was a certain man before him, which had the dropsy.

Then Jesus answering, spake unto the Lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?

And they held their peace. Then he took him, and healed him, and let him go,

And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass, or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the Sabbath day?

And they could not answer him again to those things.

[c]He spake also a parable to the guests, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms, and said unto them,

When thou shalt be bidden of any man to a wedding, set not thyself down in the chiefest place, lest a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him,

And he that bade both him and thee, come, and say to thee, Give this man room, and thou then begin with shame to take the lowest room.

10 (A)But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room, that when he that bade thee, cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, sit up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at table with thee.

11 (B)For whosoever exalteth himself, shall be brought low, and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

12 [d]Then said he also to him that had bidden him, (C)When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor the rich neighbors, lest they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee.

13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame and the blind,

14 And thou shalt be blessed, because they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

15 ¶ Now when one of them that sat at table heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that eateth bread in the kingdom of God.

16 Then said he to him, (D)A certain man made a great supper, and bade many,

17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come: for all things are now ready.

18 [e]But they all with [f]one mind began to make excuse: The first said unto him, I have bought a farm, and I must needs go out and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21 So that servant returned, and showed his master these things. Then was the good man of the house angry, and said to his servant, Go out quickly into the [g]streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

23 Then the master said to the servant, Go out into the highways, and hedges, and compel them to come in, that mine house may be filled.

24 For I say unto you, that none of those men which were bidden, shall taste of my supper.

25 [h]Now there went great multitudes with him, and he turned and said unto them,

26 (E)If any man come to me, and [i]hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters: yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

27 (F)[j]And whosoever beareth not his cross, and cometh after me, cannot be my disciple.

28 For which of you minding to build a tower, [k]sitting not down before, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to perform it,

29 Lest that after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to perform it, all that behold it, begin to mock him,

30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to make an end.

31 Or what King going to make war against another King, sitteth not down first, and taketh counsel, whether he be able with ten thousand, to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

32 Or else while he is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth peace.

33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you, that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

34 (G)[l]Salt is good: but if salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted?

35 It is neither meet for the land, nor yet for the dunghill, but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Job 29

29 1 Job complaineth of the prosperity of the time past.  7, 21 His authority. 22 Justice and equity.

So Job proceeded, and continued his parable, saying,

Oh that I were as [a]in times past, when God preserved me!

When his [b]light shined upon mine head: and when by his light I walked through the [c]darkness,

As I was in the days of my youth: when [d]God’s providence was upon my tabernacle:

When the Almighty was yet with me, and my children round about me:

when I washed my paths [e]with butter, and when the rock poured me out rivers of oil:

When I went out to the gate, even to the judgment seat, and when I caused them to prepare my seat in the street.

The young men saw me, and [f]hid themselves, and the aged arose, and stood up.

The princes stayed talk, and laid their hand on their [g]mouth.

10 The voice of princes was hid, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

11 And when the [h]ear heard me, it blessed me, and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to [i]me.

12 For I delivered the [j]poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

13 [k]The blessing of him that was ready to perish, came upon me, and I caused the widow’s heart to rejoice.

14 I put [l]on justice, and it covered me: my judgment was as a robe, and a crown.

15 I was the eyes to the blind, and I was the feet to the lame.

16 I was a father unto the poor, and when I knew not the cause, I sought it out diligently.

17 I brake also the jaws of the unrighteous man, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

18 Then I said, I shall die in my [m]nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

19 For my root is [n]spread out by the water, and the dew shall lie upon my branch.

20 My glory shall renew toward me, and my bow shall be restored in mine hand.

21 Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and held their tongue at my counsel.

22 After my words they replied not, and my talk [o]dropped upon them.

23 And they waited for me, as for the rain, and they opened their mouth [p]as for the latter rain.

24 If I [q]laughed on them, they believed it not: neither did they cause the light of my countenance [r]to fall.

25 I appointed out [s]their way, and did sit as chief, and dwelt as a King in the army, and like him that comforteth the mourners.

1 Corinthians 15

15 1 The Gospel that Paul preached. 3 The death and resurrection of Christ. 8 Paul saw Christ. 9 He had persecuted that Church, whereof afterward he was made a minister. 12 Christ first rose again, and we all shall rise by him. 26 The last enemy, death. 29 To be baptized for dead. 32 At Ephesus Paul fought with beasts. 35 How the dead are raised. 45 The first Adam. The last Adam, 47 The first and second man. 51 We shall all be changed, we shall not all sleep. 55 Death’s sting. 57 Victory. 58 Constancy and steadfastness.

Moreover (A)[a]brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which ye have also received, and wherein ye [b]continue,

And whereby ye are saved, if ye keep in memory, after what manner I preached it unto you, [c]except ye have believed in vain.

For first of all, I delivered unto you that which I received, how that Christ died for our sins, according to the (B)Scriptures,

And that he was buried, and that he arose the third day, according to the (C)Scriptures,

(D)And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the [d]twelve.

After that, he was seen of more than five hundred brethren at [e]once: whereof many remain unto this present, and some also are asleep.

After that, he was seen of James: then of all the Apostles.

(E)[f]And last of all he was seen also of me, as of one born out of due time.

(F)For I am the least of the Apostles, which am not meet to be called an Apostle, because I persecuted the Church of God.

10 (G)But by the grace of God I am that I am: and his grace which is in me, was not in vain: but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which is with me.

11 Wherefore, whether it were I, or they, so we preach, and so have ye believed.

12 [g]Now if it be preached, that Christ is risen from the dead, how say some among you, that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13 [h]For if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

14 [i]And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

15 And we are found also false witnesses of God: for we have testified of God, that he hath raised up Christ: whom he hath not raised up, if so be the dead be not raised.

16 [j]For if the dead be not raised, then is Christ not raised.

17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain: [k]ye are [l]yet in your sins.

18 [m]And so they which are asleep in Christ, are perished.

19 [n]If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most miserable.

20 [o]But now is Christ risen from the dead, [p]and was made the (H)[q]firstfruits of them that slept.

21 [r]For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be [s]made alive.

23 [t]But every man in his (I)own order: the firstfruits is Christ, afterward, they that are of Christ, at his coming shall rise again.

24 [u]Then shall be the [v]end, when he hath delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he hath put down [w]all rule, and all authority and power.

25 For he must reign (J)till he hath put all his enemies [x]under his feet.

26 The [y]last enemy that shall be destroyed, is death.

27 (K)For he hath put down all things under his feet. (And when he saith that all things are subdued to him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put down all things under him.)

28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, [z]then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him, that did subdue all things under him, that [aa]God may be all in all.

29 [ab]Else what shall they do which are baptized [ac]for dead? if the dead rise not at all, why are they then baptized for dead?

30 [ad]Why are we also in jeopardy every hour?

31 By your [ae]rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

32 [af]If I have fought with beasts at Ephesus [ag]after the manner of men, what advantageth it me, if the dead be not raised up? (L)[ah]let us [ai]eat and drink: for tomorrow we shall die.

33 [aj]Be not deceived: evil speakings corrupt good manners.

34 Awake to live righteously, and sin not: for some have not the knowledge of God, I speak this to your shame.

35 [ak]But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body come they forth?

36 [al]O fool, that which thou sowest, is not quickened, except it die.

37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare corn as it falleth, of wheat, or of some other.

38 [am]But God giveth it a body at his pleasure, even to every seed his own body.

39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another of fishes, and another of birds:

40 There are also heavenly bodies, and earthly bodies: but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another.

41 There is another glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

42 [an]So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is [ao]sown in corruption, and is raised in incorruption.

43 It is sown in [ap]dishonor, and is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness, and is raised in [aq]power.

44 [ar]It is sown a natural body, and is raised a spiritual body: there is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

45 [as]As it is also written, The [at]first man (M)Adam was made a living soul: and the last Adam was made a [au]quickening spirit.

46 [av]Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual: but that which is natural, and afterward that which is spiritual.

47 The first man is of the earth, [aw]earthly: the second man is the Lord from [ax]heaven.

48 [ay]As is the earthly, such are they that are earthly: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

49 And as we have born the [az]image of the earthly, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly.

50 [ba]This say I, brethren, that [bb]flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

51 [bc]Behold, I show you a [bd]secret thing, We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52 In [be]a moment, in the twinkling of an eye at the last (N)trumpet: for the trumpet shall blow, and the dead shall be raised up incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption: and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible hath put on incorruption, and this mortal hath put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying, that is written, (O)Death is swallowed up into victory.

55 O death where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin: and the strength of sin is the Law.

57 (P)But thanks be unto God, which hath given us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 [bf]Therefore my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, abundant always in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the [bg]Lord.
