M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
3 1 Moses keepeth sheep, and God appeareth unto him in a bush. 10 He sendeth him to deliver the children of Israel. 14 The name of God.
1 When Moses kept the sheep of Jethro his father-in-law, Priest of Midian, and drove the flock to the [a]back side of the desert, and came to the [b]Mountain of God, [c]Horeb,
2 Then the Angel of the Lord appeared unto him (A)in a flame of fire out of the midst of a [d]bush, and he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3 Therefore Moses said, I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush burneth not.
4 And when the [e]Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he answered, I am here.
5 Then he said, Come not hither, [f]put thy shoes off thy feet: for the place whereon thou standest is [g]holy ground.
6 Moreover he said, (B)I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses hid his face: for he was [h]afraid to look upon God.
7 ¶ Then the Lord said, I have surely seen the trouble of my people, which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry, because of their [i]taskmasters: for I know their sorrows.
8 Therefore I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them out of that land into a good land and a large, into a land that [j]floweth with milk and honey, even into the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
9 [k]And now lo, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me, and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
11 ¶ But Moses said unto God, Who am [l]I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12 And he answered, [m]Certainly I will be with thee: and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee, After that thou hast brought the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
13 Then Moses said unto God, Behold, when I shall come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you: if they say unto me, What is his Name? what shall I say unto them?
14 And God answered Moses, I [n]AM THAT I AM. Also he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
15 And God spake further unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob hath sent me unto you: this is my Name forever, and this is my memorial unto all ages.
16 Go and gather the Elders of Israel together, and thou shalt say unto them, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob appeared unto me, and said, [o]I have surely remembered you, and that which is done to you in Egypt.
17 Therefore I did say, I will bring you out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land that floweth with milk and honey.
18 Then shall they obey my voice, and thou and the Elders of Israel shall go unto the King of Egypt, and say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews hath [p]met with us: we pray thee now therefore, let us go three days’ journey in the wilderness, that we may [q]sacrifice unto the Lord our God.
19 ¶ But I know, that the King of Egypt will not let you go, but by strong hand.
20 Therefore will I stretch out mine hand and smite Egypt with all my wonders, which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that shall he let you go.
21 And I will make this people to be favored of the Egyptians: so that when ye go, ye shall not go empty.
22 [r](C)For every woman shall ask of her neighbor, and of her [s]that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment, and ye shall put them on your sons, and on your daughters, and shall spoil the Egyptians.
6 1 The disciples pull the ears of corn on the Sabbath. 6 Of him that had a withered hand. 13 The election of the Apostles. 20 The blessings and curses. 27 We must love our enemies. 46 With what fruit the word of God is to be heard.
1 And (A)[a]it came to pass on a second solemn Sabbath, that he went through the corn fields, and his disciples [b]plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, and rubbed them in their hands.
2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath days?
3 Then Jesus answered them, and said, (B)Have ye not read this, that David did when he himself was an hungered, and they which were with him,
4 How he went into the house of God, and took, and ate the showbread, and gave also to them which were with him, which was not lawful to eat, but for the (C)Priests only?
5 And he said unto them, The Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath day.
6 ¶ (D)[c]It came to pass also on another Sabbath, that he entered into the Synagogue, and taught, and there was a man, whose right hand was dried up.
7 And the Scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the Sabbath day, that they might find an accusation against him.
8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Arise, and stand up in the midst. And he arose, and stood up.
9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you a question, Whether is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to [d]destroy?
10 And he beheld them all in compass, and said unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he did so, and his hand was restored again, as whole as the other.
11 Then they were filled full of madness, and communed one with another, what they might do to Jesus.
12 ¶ And it came to pass in those days, that he went into a mountain to pray, and [e]spent the night in prayer to God.
13 And when it was day, (E)he called his disciples, and of them he chose twelve which also he called Apostles:
14 (Simon whom he named also Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
15 Matthew and Thomas: James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zealous,
16 Judas James’ brother, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.)
17 Then he came down with them, and stood in a plain place with the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judea, and Jerusalem, and from the [f]sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases:
18 And they that were vexed with foul spirits, and they were healed.
19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all:
20 ¶ (F)[g]And he lifted up his eyes upon his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 (G)Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be satisfied: (H)blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
22 (I)Blessed are ye when men hate you, and when [h]they separate you, and revile you, and put out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.
23 Rejoice ye in that day, and [i]be glad: for behold, your reward is great in heaven: for after this manner their fathers did to the Prophets:
24 (J)But woe be to you that are rich: for ye have [j]received your consolation.
25 (K)Woe be to you that are full: for ye shall hunger. Woe be to you that now laugh: for ye shall wail and weep.
26 Woe be to you when all men speak well of you: for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
27 ¶ (L)[k]But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies: do well to them which hate you.
28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which hurt you.
29 (M)And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek, offer also the other, (N)and him that taketh away thy cloak, forbid not to take thy coat also.
30 Give to every man that asketh of thee: and of him that taketh away the things that be thine, ask them not again.
31 (O)And as ye would that men should do to you, so do ye to them likewise.
32 (P)For if ye love them which love you, [l]what thank shall ye have? for even the sinners love those that love them.
33 And if ye do good for them which do good for you, what thank shall ye have? for even the sinners do the same.
34 (Q)And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank shall ye have? for even the sinners lend to sinners, to receive the like.
35 Wherefore love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, [m]looking for nothing again, and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of (R)the most High: for he is kind unto the unkind, and to the evil.
36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
37 ¶ (S)[n]Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: [o]forgive, and ye shall be forgiven.
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you: (T)a good measure, [p]pressed down, shaken together and running over shall men give into your bosom: for with what measure ye mete, with the same shall men mete to you again.
39 [q]And he spake a parable unto them, (U)Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
40 (V)The disciple is not above the master: but whosoever will be a perfect disciple, shall be as his master.
41 ¶ (W)[r]And why seest thou a mote in thy brother’s eye, and considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou seest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Hypocrite, cast out the beam out of thine own eye first, and then shalt thou see perfectly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.
43 ¶ (X)[s]For it is not a good tree that bringeth forth evil fruit: neither an evil tree, that bringeth forth good fruit.
44 (Y)For every tree is known by his own fruit: (Z)for neither of thorns gather men figs, nor of bushes gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
46 ¶ (AA)But why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things that I speak?
47 [t]Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my words, and doeth the same, I will show you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the waters arose, the flood beat upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was grounded upon a rock.
49 But he that heareth and doeth not, is like a man that built an house upon the earth without foundation, against which the flood did beat, and it fell by and by: and the fall of that house was great.
20 1 Zophar showeth, that the wicked and the covetous shall have a short end, 22 though for a time they flourish.
1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
2 Doubtless my thoughts cause me to answer, and therefore I make haste.
3 I have heard [a]the correction of my reproach: therefore the spirit of mine understanding causeth me to answer.
4 Knowest thou not this of old? and since God placed man upon the earth,
5 That the rejoicing of the wicked is short, and that the joy of the hypocrites is but a moment?
6 Though [b]his excellency mount up to the heaven, and his head reach unto the clouds,
7 Yet shall he perish forever like his dung, and they which have seen him, shall say, Where is he?
8 He shall flee away as a dream, and they shall not find him, and shall pass away as a vision of the night.
9 So that the eye which had seen him, shall do so no more, and his place shall see him no more.
10 His children shall [c]flatter the poor, and his hands shall [d]restore his substance.
11 His bones are full of the sin of his youth, and [e]it shall lie down with him in the dust.
12 When wickedness was [f]sweet in his mouth, and he hid it under his tongue,
13 And favored it, and would not forsake it, but kept it close in his mouth,
14 Then his meat in his bowels was turned: the gall of Asps was in the midst of him.
15 He hath devoured substance, and he shall vomit it: for God shall draw it out of his belly.
16 He shall suck the [g]gall of Asps, and the viper’s tongue shall slay him.
17 He shall not see the [h]rivers, nor the floods and streams of honey and butter.
18 He shall restore the labor, and shall devour no more: even according to the substance shall be his exchange, [i]and he shall enjoy it no more.
19 For he hath undone many: he hath forsaken the poor, and hath spoiled houses which he built not.
20 Surely he shall feel no quietness in his body, neither shall he reserve of that which he desired.
21 There shall none of his [j]meat be left: therefore none shall hope for his goods.
22 When he shall be filled with his abundance, he shall be in pain, and the hand [k]of all the wicked shall assail him.
23 He shall be about to fill his belly, but God shall send upon him his fierce wrath, [l]and shall cause to rain upon him, even upon his meat.
24 He shall flee from the iron weapons, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.
25 The arrow is drawn out, and cometh forth of the [m]body, and shineth of his gall, so fear cometh upon him.
26 [n]All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: the fire that is not [o]blown shall devour him, and that which remaineth in his tabernacle shall be destroyed.
27 The heaven shall declare his wickedness, and the earth shall rise up against him.
28 The [p]increase of his house shall go away: it shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
29 This is the portion of the wicked man from [q]God, and the heritage that he shall have of God, for his [r]words.
7 Entreating here of marriage, 4 which is a remedy against fornication, 10 and may not be broken, 18, 20 he willeth every man to live contented with his lot. 25 He showeth what the end of virginity should be, 35 and who ought to marry.
1 Now [a]concerning the things [b]whereof ye wrote unto me, It were [c]good for a man not to touch a woman.
2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
3 (A)[d]Let the husband give unto the wife [e]due benevolence, and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
4 [f]The wife hath not the power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not the power of his own body, but the wife.
5 Defraud not one another, [g]except it be with consent for a time, that ye may [h]give yourselves to fasting and prayer, and again come together, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
6 [i]But I speak this by permission, not by commandment.
7 For I [j]would that all men were even as I myself am: but every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
8 [k]Therefore I say unto the [l]unmarried, and unto the widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I do.
9 But if they cannot abstain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to [m]burn.
10 (B)[n]And unto the married I command, not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband.
11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled unto her husband, and let not the husband put away his wife.
12 [o]But to the remnant I speak, and not the Lord, If any brother have a wife that believeth not, if she be content to dwell with him, let him not forsake her.
13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, if he be content to dwell with her, let her not forsake him.
14 [p]For the unbelieving husband is [q]sanctified to the [r]wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified to the [s]husband, else were your children unclean: but now are they [t]holy.
15 [u]But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart: a brother or a sister is not in subjection in [v]such things: [w]but God hath called us in peace.
16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thine husband? Or what knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
17 [x]But as God hath distributeth to every man, as the Lord [y]hath called every one, so let him walk: and so ordain I in all Churches.
18 [z]Is any man called being circumcised? let him not [aa]gather his uncircumcision: is any called uncircumcised? let him not be circumcised.
19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
20 (C)Let every man abide in the same vocation wherein he was called.
21 Art thou called being a servant? [ab]care not for it: but if yet thou mayest be free, use it rather.
22 For he that is called in the [ac]Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called being free, is Christ’s servant.
23 (D)[ad]Ye are bought with a price: be not the servants of men.
24 [ae]Brethren, let every man, wherein he was called, therein abide with [af]God.
25 [ag]Now concerning virgins, I have no commandment of the Lord: but I give mine [ah]advise, as [ai]one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.
26 I suppose then [aj]this to be good for the [ak]present necessity: I mean that it is good for a man so to be.
27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed: art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
28 But if thou takest a wife, thou sinnest not: and if a virgin marry, she sinneth not: nevertheless, such shall have trouble in the [al]flesh: but I [am]spare you.
29 And this I say, brethren, because the time is [an]short, hereafter that both they which have wives, be as though they had none:
30 And they that [ao]weep, as though they wept not: and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not: and they that buy, as though they possessed not:
31 And they that use this [ap]world, as though they used it not: for the [aq]fashion of this world goeth away.
32 And I would have you without care. The unmarried careth for things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord.
33 But he that is married, [ar]careth for the things of the world, how he may please his wife.
34 There is difference also between a virgin and a wife: the unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy, both in body and in [as]spirit: but she that is married, careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
35 And this I speak for your own [at]commodity, not to tangle you in a snare, but that ye follow that which is honest, and that ye may cleave fast unto the Lord without separation.
36 [au]But if any man think that it is uncomely for his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he [av]sinneth not: let them be married.
37 Nevertheless, he that standeth firm in his [aw]heart, that he hath no [ax]need, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart, that he will keep his virgin, he doeth well.
38 So then he that giveth her to marriage, doeth well, but he that giveth her not to marriage, doeth [ay]better.
39 [az]The wife is bound by the [ba]law, as long as her husband (E)liveth: but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to marry with whom she will, only in the [bb]Lord.
40 But she is more blessed, if she so abide in my judgment: (F)and I think that I have also the Spirit of God.
