Isaiah 53-55

53 1 Of Christ and his kingdom, whose word few will believe. 6 All men are sinners. 11 Christ is our righteousness, 12 and is dead for our sins.

Who [a]will believe our report? and to whom is the [b]arm of the Lord revealed?

But he shall grow up before him as a branch, and as a [c]root out of a dry [d]ground; he hath neither form nor beauty: when we shall see him, there shall be no form that we should desire him.

He is despised and rejected of men: he is a man full of sorrows, and hath experience of [e]infirmities: we hid as it were our faces from him: he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely, he hath born our infirmities, and carried [f]our sorrows, yet we did judge him as [g]plagued and smitten of God, and humbled.

But he was wounded for our transgressions: he was broken for our iniquities: the [h]chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes are we healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray: we have turned every one to his own way, and the Lord hath laid upon him the [i]iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet did he not [j]open his mouth: he is brought as a sheep to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearer is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.

He was taken out from [k]prison, and from judgment: [l]and who shall declare his age? for he was cut out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he plagued.

[m]And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no wickedness, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet the Lord would break him and make him subject to infirmities: when [n]he shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed and shall prolong his days, and the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the [o]travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied; by his knowledge shall my [p]righteous servant justify many: for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I give him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because [q]he hath poured out his soul unto death; and he was counted with the transgressors, and he bare the sin [r]of many, and prayed for the trespassers.

54 1 More of the Gentiles shall believe the Gospel than of the Jews. 7 God leaveth his for a time, to whom afterward he showeth mercy.

Rejoice, O [s]barren that didst not bear: break forth into joy and rejoice, thou that didst not travail with child; for the [t]desolate hath more children than the married wife, saith the Lord.

[u]Enlarge the place of thy tents, and let them spread out the curtains of thine habitations: spare not: stretch out thy cords, and make fast thy stakes.

For thou shalt increase on the right hand and on the left, and thy seed shall possess the Gentiles, and dwell in the desolate cities.

Fear not: for thou shalt not be ashamed, neither shalt thou be confounded: for thou shalt not be put to shame: yea, thou shalt forget the shame of thy [v]youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy [w]widowhood anymore.

For he that [x]made thee, is thine husband, (whose name is the Lord of hosts) and thy redeemer the holy One of Israel, shall be called the God of the whole [y]world.

For the Lord hath called thee, being as a woman forsaken, and afflicted in spirit, and as a [z]young wife when thou wast refused, saith thy God.

For a little while have I forsaken thee, but with great compassion will I gather thee.

For a moment in mine anger, I hid my face from thee for a little season, but with everlasting mercy have I had compassion on thee, saith the Lord thy redeemer.

For this is unto me as the [aa]waters of Noah; for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so have I sworn that I would not be angry with thee, nor rebuke thee.

10 For the mountains shall remove, and the hills shall fall down; but my mercy shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace fall away, saith the Lord, that hath compassion on thee.

11 O thou afflicted and tossed with tempest, that hast no comfort, behold, I will lay thy stones with the [ab]carbuncle, and lay thy foundation with sapphires,

12 And I will make thy windows of [ac]emeralds, and thy gates shining stones, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.

13 And all thy children shall be [ad]taught of the Lord, and much peace shall be to thy children.

14 In [ae]righteousness shalt thou be established, and be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear it: and from fear; for it shall not come near thee.

15 Behold, the enemies shall gather himself, but without [af]me: whosoever shall gather himself in thee, [ag]against thee, shall fall.

16 Behold, I have created the [ah]smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and him that bringeth forth an instrument for his work, and I have created the destroyer to destroy.

17 But all the weapons that are made against thee, shall not prosper: and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment, thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the Lord’s servants, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

55 1 An exhortation to come to Christ. 8 God’s counsels are not as man’s. 12 The joy of the faithful.

Ho, everyone that [ai]thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and ye that have [aj]no silver, come, buy and eat: come, I say, buy [ak]wine and milk without silver and without money.

Wherefore do ye lay out silver, and not for bread? [al]and your labor without being satisfied? hearken diligently unto me, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight in [am]fatness.

Incline your ears, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live, and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the [an]sure mercies of David.

Behold, I gave [ao]him for a witness to the people, for a prince and a master unto the people.

Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, [ap]and a nation that knew not thee, shall run unto thee because of the Lord thy God, and the Holy one of Israel: for he hath glorified thee.

Seek ye the Lord while he may be [aq]found: call ye upon him while he is near.

Let the wicked [ar]forsake his ways, and the unrighteous his own imaginations, and return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he is very ready to forgive.

For my [as]thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts above your thoughts.

10 Surely as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither but watereth the earth, and maketh it to bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread unto him that eateth,

11 So shall my [at]word be, that goeth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I will, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

12 Therefore ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace; the [au]mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into joy, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

13 For thorns there shall grow fir trees; for nettles shall grow the myrrh tree, and it shall be to the Lord [av]for a name, and for an everlasting [aw]sign that shall not be taken away.

2 Thessalonians 1

The Second Epistle of Paul to the Thessalonians

3 He commendeth the increase of faith and charity, 4 and the patience of the Thessalonians: 6 And describing God’s vengeance against such as oppress the godly, 10 he teacheth the godly to wait for the last judgment.

Paul and Silvanus, and Timothy, unto the Church of the Thessalonians, which is in God our Father, and in the Lord Jesus Christ:

Grace be with you, and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

(A)[a]We ought to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith [b]groweth exceedingly, and the love of every one of you toward another, aboundeth,

So that we ourselves rejoice of you in the Churches of God, because of your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye suffer.

(B)[c]Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for the which ye also suffer.

[d]For it is a righteous thing with God, to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you,

And to you which are troubled, rest [e]with us, (C)[f]when the Lord Jesus shall show himself from heaven with his mighty Angels,

In flaming fire, rendering vengeance unto them, [g]that do not know God, and which obey not unto the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Which shall be punished with everlasting perdition from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power,

10 When he shall come to be glorified in his Saints, and to be made marvelous in all them that believe ([h]because our testimony toward you was believed) in that day.

11 [i]Wherefore, we also pray always for you, that our God may make you worthy of [j]this calling, and fulfill [k]all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the [l]work of faith with power.

12 That the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God, and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
