The Making of the Altar for the Burnt Offering
38 Bezalel[a] made the altar for the burnt offering of acacia wood 7½ feet long and 7½ feet wide—it was square—and its height was 4½ feet. 2 He made its horns on its four corners; its horns were part of it,[b] and he overlaid it with bronze. 3 He made all the utensils of the altar—the pots, the shovels, the tossing bowls, the meat hooks, and the fire pans—he made all its utensils of bronze. 4 He made a grating for the altar, a network of bronze under its ledge, halfway up from the bottom. 5 He cast four rings for the four corners of the bronze grating, to provide places for the poles. 6 He made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with bronze. 7 He put the poles into the rings on the sides of the altar, with which to carry it. He made the altar[c] hollow, out of boards.
8 He made the large basin of bronze and its pedestal of bronze from the mirrors of the women who served[d] at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
The Construction of the Courtyard
9 Bezalel[e] made the courtyard. For the south side[f] the hangings of the courtyard were of fine twisted linen, 150 feet long, 10 with[g] their twenty posts and their twenty bronze bases, with the hooks of the posts and their bands of silver. 11 For the north side the hangings were[h] 150 feet, with their twenty posts and their twenty bronze bases, with the hooks of the posts and their bands of silver. 12 For the west side there were[i] hangings 75 feet long, with[j] their ten posts and their ten bases, with the hooks of the posts and their bands of silver. 13 For the east side, toward the sunrise, it was 75 feet wide,[k] 14 with hangings on one side[l] of the gate that were 22½ feet long, with their three posts and their three bases, 15 and for the second side of the gate of the courtyard, just like the other,[m] the hangings were 22½ feet long, with their three posts and their three bases. 16 All the hangings around the courtyard were of fine twisted linen. 17 The bases for the posts were bronze. The hooks of the posts and their bands were silver, their tops were overlaid with silver, and all the posts of the courtyard had silver bands.[n] 18 The curtain[o] for the gate of the courtyard was of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen, the work of an embroiderer. It was 30 feet long and, like the hangings in the courtyard, it was 7½ feet high, 19 with four posts and their four bronze bases. Their hooks and their bands were silver, and their tops were overlaid with silver. 20 All the tent pegs of the tabernacle and of the courtyard all around were bronze.
The Materials of the Construction
21 This is the inventory[p] of the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the testimony, which was counted[q] by the order[r] of Moses, being the work[s] of the Levites under the direction[t] of Ithamar, son of Aaron the priest. 22 Now Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made everything that the Lord had commanded Moses; 23 and with him was Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an artisan, a designer, and an embroiderer in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen.
24 All the gold that was used for the work, in all the work of the sanctuary[u] (namely,[v] the gold of the wave offering) was 29 talents and 730 shekels,[w] according to the sanctuary shekel.
25 The silver of those who were numbered of the community was 100 talents and 1,775 shekels,[x] according to the sanctuary shekel, 26 one beka per person, that is, a half shekel,[y] according to the sanctuary shekel, for everyone who crossed over to those numbered, from twenty years old or older,[z] 603,550 in all.[aa] 27 The 100 talents of silver were used for casting the bases of the sanctuary and the bases of the special curtain—100 bases for 100 talents, one talent per base. 28 From the remaining 1,775 shekels[ab] he made hooks for the posts, overlaid their tops, and made bands for them.
29 The bronze of the wave offering was seventy talents and 2,400 shekels.[ac] 30 With it he made the bases for the door of the tent of meeting, the bronze altar, the bronze grating for it, and all the utensils of the altar, 31 the bases for the courtyard all around, the bases for the gate of the courtyard, all the tent pegs of the tabernacle, and all the tent pegs of the courtyard all around.[ad]
Jesus Prays for the Father to Glorify Him
17 When Jesus had finished saying these things, he looked upward[a] to heaven[b] and said, “Father, the time[c] has come. Glorify your Son, so that your[d] Son may glorify you— 2 just as you have given him authority over all humanity,[e] so that he may give eternal life to everyone you have given him.[f] 3 Now this[g] is eternal life[h]—that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ,[i] whom you sent. 4 I glorified you on earth by completing[j] the work you gave me to do.[k] 5 And now, Father, glorify me at your side[l] with the glory I had with you before the world was created.[m]
Jesus Prays for the Disciples
6 “I have revealed[n] your name[o] to the men[p] you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you,[q] and you gave them to me, and they have obeyed[r] your word. 7 Now they understand[s] that everything[t] you have given me comes from you, 8 because I have given them the words you have given me. They[u] accepted[v] them[w] and really[x] understand[y] that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying[z] on behalf of them. I am not praying[aa] on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those you have given me, because they belong to you.[ab] 10 Everything[ac] I have belongs to you,[ad] and everything you have belongs to me,[ae] and I have been glorified by them.[af] 11 I[ag] am no longer in the world, but[ah] they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe[ai] in your name[aj] that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one.[ak] 12 When I was with them I kept them safe[al] and watched over them[am] in your name[an] that you have given me. Not one[ao] of them was lost except the one destined for destruction,[ap] so that the scripture could be fulfilled.[aq] 13 But now I am coming to you, and I am saying these things in the world, so they may experience[ar] my joy completed[as] in themselves. 14 I have given them your word,[at] and the world has hated them, because they do not belong to the world,[au] just as I do not belong to the world.[av] 15 I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but that you keep them safe[aw] from the evil one.[ax] 16 They do not belong to the world[ay] just as I do not belong to the world.[az] 17 Set them apart[ba] in the truth; your word is truth. 18 Just as you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world.[bb] 19 And I set myself apart[bc] on their behalf,[bd] so that they too may be truly set apart.[be]
Jesus Prays for Believers Everywhere
20 “I am not praying[bf] only on their behalf, but also on behalf of those who believe[bg] in me through their testimony,[bh] 21 that they will all be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. I pray[bi] that they will be in us, so that the world will believe that you sent me. 22 The glory[bj] you gave to me I have given to them, that they may be one just as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—that they may be completely one,[bk] so that the world will know that you sent me, and you have loved them just as you have loved me.
24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am,[bl] so that they can see my glory that you gave me because you loved me before the creation of the world[bm] . 25 Righteous Father, even if the world does not know you, I know you, and these men[bn] know that you sent me. 26 I made known your name[bo] to them, and I will continue to make it known,[bp] so that the love you have loved me with may be in them, and I may be in them.”
14 Every wise woman[a] has built[b] her household,[c]
but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.
2 The one who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord,[d]
but the one who is perverted in his ways[e] despises him.
3 In[f] the speech[g] of a fool is a rod for his back,[h]
but the words[i] of the wise protect them.
4 Where there are no oxen, the feeding trough is clean,
but an abundant harvest is produced by strong oxen.[j]
5 A truthful witness[k] does not lie,
but a false witness[l] breathes out lies.[m]
6 The scorner[n] sought wisdom—there was none,[o]
but understanding was easy[p] for a discerning person.
7 Walk[q] abreast with a foolish person,[r]
and you do not understand[s] wise counsel.[t]
8 The wisdom of the shrewd person[u] is to discern[v] his way,
but the folly of fools is deception.[w]
9 Fools mock[x] at reparation,[y]
but among the upright there is favor.[z]
10 The heart knows its own bitterness,[aa]
and with its joy no one else[ab] can share.[ac]
11 The household[ad] of the wicked will be destroyed,
but the tent[ae] of the upright will flourish.
12 There is a way that seems right to a person,[af]
but its end is the way that leads to death.[ag]
13 Even in laughter the heart may ache,[ah]
and the end[ai] of joy may be[aj] grief.
14 The backslider[ak] will be paid back[al] from his own ways,
but a good person will be rewarded[am] for his.
15 A naive person[an] will believe anything,
but the shrewd person discerns his steps.[ao]
16 A wise person is cautious[ap] and turns from evil,
but a fool throws off restraint[aq] and is overconfident.[ar]
17 A person who has a quick temper[as] will do foolish things,
and a person with crafty schemes[at] will be hated.[au]
18 The naive have inherited[av] folly,
but the shrewd[aw] will be crowned[ax] with knowledge.
19 Bad people have bowed[ay] before good people,
and wicked people have bowed[az] at the gates[ba] of someone righteous.[bb]
20 A poor person will be disliked[bc] even by his neighbors,
but those who love the rich are many.[bd]
21 The one who despises his neighbor sins,
but whoever is kind to the needy is blessed.
22 Do not those who devise[be] evil go astray?
But those who plan good exhibit[bf] faithful covenant love.[bg]
23 In all hard work[bh] there is profit,
but merely talking about it[bi] only brings[bj] poverty.[bk]
24 The crown of the wise is their riches,[bl]
but the folly[bm] of fools is folly.
25 A truthful witness[bn] rescues lives,[bo]
but one who testifies falsely betrays them.[bp]
26 In the fear of the Lord one has[bq] strong confidence,[br]
and it will be a refuge[bs] for his children.
27 The fear of the Lord[bt] is like[bu] a life-giving fountain,[bv]
to turn[bw] people[bx] from deadly snares.[by]
28 A king’s glory is[bz] the abundance of people,
but the lack of subjects[ca] is the ruin[cb] of a ruler.
29 Someone with great understanding is slow to anger,[cc]
but the one who has a quick temper[cd] exalts[ce] folly.
30 A tranquil spirit[cf] revives the body,[cg]
but envy[ch] is rottenness to the bones.[ci]
31 The one who oppresses[cj] the poor has insulted[ck] his Creator,
but whoever honors him shows favor[cl] to the needy.
32 An evil person will be thrown down through his wickedness,[cm]
but a righteous person takes refuge in his integrity.[cn]
33 Wisdom rests in the heart of the discerning;
it is not known[co] in the inner parts[cp] of fools.
34 Righteousness exalts[cq] a nation,
but sin is a disgrace[cr] to any people.
35 The king shows favor[cs] to a wise[ct] servant,
but his wrath falls on[cu] one who acts shamefully.
Salutation
1 From Paul[a] and Timothy, slaves[b] of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the overseers[c] and deacons. 2 Grace and peace to you[d] from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Prayer for the Church
3 I thank my God every time I remember you.[e] 4 I always pray with joy in my every prayer for all of you 5 because of your participation[f] in the gospel from the first day until now.[g] 6 For I am sure of this very thing,[h] that the one[i] who began a good work in[j] you will perfect it[k] until the day of Christ Jesus. 7 For[l] it is right for me to think this about all of you, because I have you in my heart,[m] since both in my imprisonment[n] and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel all of you became partners in God’s grace[o] together with me. 8 For God is my witness that I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9 And I pray this, that your love may abound even more and more in knowledge and every kind of insight 10 so that you can decide what is best, and thus be sincere and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.
Ministry as a Prisoner
12 I want you to know, brothers and sisters,[p] that my situation has actually turned out to advance the gospel:[q] 13 The[r] whole imperial guard[s] and everyone else knows[t] that I am in prison[u] for the sake of Christ, 14 and most of the brothers and sisters,[v] having confidence in the Lord[w] because of my imprisonment, now more than ever[x] dare to speak the word[y] fearlessly.
15 Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from goodwill. 16 The latter do so from love because they know that I am placed here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former proclaim Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, because they think they can cause trouble for me in my imprisonment.[z] 18 What is the result? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is being proclaimed, and in this I rejoice.
Yes,[aa] and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance[ab] through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. 20 My confident hope[ac] is that I will in no way be ashamed[ad] but that with complete boldness, even now as always, Christ will be exalted in my body, whether I live or die.[ae] 21 For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain. 22 Now if I am to go on living in the body,[af] this will mean productive work[ag] for me, yet I don’t know which I prefer:[ah] 23 I feel torn between the two,[ai] because I have a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far, 24 but it is more vital for your sake that I remain[aj] in the body.[ak] 25 And since I am sure of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for the sake of your progress[al] and joy in the faith,[am] 26 so that what you can be proud of may increase[an] because of me in Christ Jesus, when I come back to you.[ao]
27 Only conduct yourselves[ap] in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ so that—whether I come and see you or whether I remain absent—I should hear that[aq] you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, by contending side by side for the faith of the gospel,[ar] 28 and by not being intimidated in any way by your opponents. This is[as] a sign of their[at] destruction, but of your salvation—a sign which[au] is from God. 29 For it has been granted to you[av] not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for him, 30 since you are encountering[aw] the same conflict that you saw me face and now hear that I am facing.[ax]
