Psalm 99

Praise to the Lord for His Holiness

99 The Lord reigns;
Let the peoples tremble!
(A)He dwells between the cherubim;
Let the earth be [a]moved!
The Lord is great in Zion,
And He is high above all the peoples.
Let them praise Your great and awesome name—
[b]He is holy.

The King’s strength also loves justice;
You have established equity;
You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
Exalt the Lord our God,
And worship at His footstool—
He is holy.

Moses and Aaron were among His priests,
And Samuel was among those who (B)called upon His name;
They called upon the Lord, and He answered them.
He spoke to them in the cloudy pillar;
They kept His testimonies and the [c]ordinance He gave them.

You answered them, O Lord our God;
You were to them God-Who-Forgives,
Though You took vengeance on their deeds.
Exalt the Lord our God,
And worship at His holy hill;
For the Lord our God is holy.

Deuteronomy 9:6-14

Therefore understand that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a (A)stiff-necked[a] people.

“Remember! Do not forget how you (B)provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. (C)From the day that you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord. Also (D)in Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, so that the Lord was angry enough with you to have destroyed you. (E)When I went up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and (F)forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water. 10 (G)Then the Lord delivered to me two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them were all the words which the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire (H)in[b] the day of the assembly. 11 And it came to pass, at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

12 “Then the Lord said to me, (I)‘Arise, go down quickly from here, for your people whom you brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly; they have (J)quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them; they have made themselves a molded image.’

13 “Furthermore (K)the Lord spoke to me, saying, ‘I have seen this people, and indeed (L)they are a [c]stiff-necked people. 14 (M)Let Me alone, that I may destroy them and (N)blot out their name from under heaven; (O)and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.’

Acts 10:1-8

Cornelius Sends a Delegation

10 There was a certain man in (A)Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian [a]Regiment, (B)a devout man and one who (C)feared God with all his household, who gave [b]alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. About [c]the ninth hour of the day (D)he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!”

And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?”

So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. Now (E)send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter. He is lodging with (F)Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. (G)He[d] will tell you what you must do.” And when the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier from among those who waited on him continually. So when he had explained all these things to them, he sent them to Joppa.
