Judges 2

1 The Angel rebuketh the people, because they had made peace with the Canaanites. 11 The Israelites fell to idolatry after Joshua’s death. 14 They are delivered into the enemies’ hands: 16 God delivereth them by Judges. 21 Why God suffered idolaters to remain among them.

And an [a]Angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I had sworn unto your fathers, and said, I will never break my covenant with you.

(A)Ye also shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land, (B)but shall break down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice. Why have ye done this?

Wherefore, I said also, I will not cast them out before you, but they shall be (C)as thorns unto your sides, and their gods shall be your [b]destruction.

And when the Angel of the Lord spake these words unto all the children of Israel, the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

Therefore they called the name of that place, [c]Bochim, and offered sacrifices there unto the Lord.

¶ Now when Joshua had [d]sent the people away, the children of Israel went every man into his inheritance, to possess the land.

And the people had served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the Elders that outlived Joshua, which had seen all the great [e]works of the Lord that he did for Israel.

But Joshua the son of Nun the servant of the Lord died, when he was an hundred and ten years old:

And they buried him in the coasts of his inheritance, in [f]Timnath Heres in mount Ephraim, on the North side of mount Gaash.

10 And so all that generation was gathered unto their fathers, and another generation arose after them, which neither knew the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

11 ¶ Then the children of Israel did wickedly in the sight of the Lord, and served [g]Baal,

12 And forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt and followed other gods, even the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed unto them, and provoked the Lord to anger.

13 So they forsook the Lord, and served (D)Baal, and [h]Ashtoreth.

14 And the wrath of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers, that spoiled them, and he (E)sold them into the hands of their enemies round about them, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.

15 [i]Whithersoever they went out, the [j]hand of the Lord was sore against them, as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworn unto them: so he punished them sore.

16 ¶ Notwithstanding, the Lord raised up [k]Judges, which [l]delivered them out of the hands of their oppressors.

17 But yet they would not obey their Judges for they went a whoring after other gods, and worshipped them, and turned quickly out of the [m]way, wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of the Lord: they did not so.

18 And when the Lord had raised them up Judges, the Lord was with the Judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the Judge (for the Lord [n]had compassion of their groanings, [o]because of them that oppressed them and tormented them.)

19 Yet (F)when the Judge was dead, they returned, and [p]did worse than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and worship them: they ceased not from their own inventions, nor from their rebellious way.

20 Wherefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he said, Because this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and hath not obeyed my voice,

21 Therefore will I no more cast out before them any of the [q]nations, which Joshua left when he died,

22 That through them I may [r]prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the Lord, to walk therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.

23 So the Lord left those nations, and drove them not out immediately, neither delivered them into the hand of Joshua.

Acts 6

1 The Apostles, 3 appoint the office of Deaconship, 5 to seven chosen men: 8 Of whom Stephen, full of faith, is one:  12 He is taken, 13 and accused as a transgressor of Moses’ Law.

And [a]in those days, as the number of the disciples grew, there arose a murmuring of the [b]Grecians towards the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the [c]daily ministering.

[d]Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples together, and said, It is not [e]meet that we should leave the word of God to serve the [f]tables.

[g]Wherefore brethren, look you out among you seven men of honest report, and full of the holy Ghost, and of wisdom, which we may appoint to this business.

And we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministration of the word.

And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen a man full of faith and of the holy Ghost, and (A)Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a Proselyte of Antioch,

[h]Which they set before the Apostles: and they prayed, and [i]laid their hands on them.

[j]And the word of God increased, and the number of the disciples was multiplied in Jerusalem greatly, and a great company of the Priests were obedient to the [k]faith.

[l]Now Stephen full of faith and [m]power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

[n]Then there arose certain of the [o]Synagogue, which are called Libertines, and Cyrenians, and of Alexandria, and of them of Cilicia, and of Asia, and disputed with Stephen.

10 [p]But they were not able to resist the wisdom, and the Spirit by the which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and God.

12 [q]Thus they moved the people and the Elders, and the Scribes: and running upon him, caught him, and brought him to the Council,

13 [r]And set forth false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the Law.

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the ordinances which Moses gave us.

15 And as all that sat in the Council looked steadfastly on him, they [s]saw his face as it had been the face of an Angel.

Jeremiah 15

15 1 The Lord would hear no prayer for the Jews, 3 but threateneth to destroy them with four plagues.

Then said the Lord unto me, [a]Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet mine affection could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them depart.

And if they say unto thee, Whither shall we depart? then tell them, Thus saith the Lord, (A)Such as are appointed to death, unto death: and such as are for the sword, to the sword: and such as are for the famine, to the famine: and such as are for the captivity, to the captivity.

And I will appoint over them four kinds, saith the Lord, the sword to slay, and the [b]dogs to tear in pieces, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth to devour, and to destroy.

I will [c]scatter them also in all kingdoms of the earth, [d]because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah King of Judah for that which he did in Jerusalem.

Who shall then have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall be sorry for thee? or who shall go to pray for thy peace?

Thou hast forsaken me, saith the Lord, and gone backward: therefore will I stretch out mine hand against thee, and destroy thee: for I [e]am weary with repenting.

And I will scatter them with the fan [f]in the gates of the earth: I have wasted, and destroyed my people, yet they would not return from their ways.

Their widows [g]are increased by me above the sand of the sea: I have brought upon them, and against the [h]assembly of the young men, a destroyer at noon day: I have caused him to fall upon them, and the city, suddenly and [i]speedily.

She that hath borne [j]seven, hath been made weak: her heart hath failed: the sun hath failed [k]her, while it was day, she hath been confounded, and ashamed, and the residue of them will I deliver unto the sword before their enemies, saith the Lord.

10 [l]Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me, a contentious man, and a man that striveth with the whole earth: I have neither [m]lent on usury, nor men have lent unto me on usury: yet everyone doth curse me.

11 The Lord said, [n]Surely thy remnant shall have wealth: surely I will cause thine enemy to entreat thee in the time of trouble, and in the time of affliction.

12 Shall the [o]iron break the iron, and the brass that cometh from the North?

13 Thy substance and thy treasures will I give to be spoiled without [p]gain, and that for all thy sins even in all thy borders.

14 And I will make thee to go with thine enemies into a land that thou knowest not, for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn you.

15 O Lord, thou knowest, remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my [q]persecutors: take me not away in the continuance of thine anger: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.

16 Thy words were found by me, and I did [r]eat them, and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for thy Name is called upon me, O Lord God of hosts.

17 I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, neither did I rejoice, but sat alone [s]because of thy plague: for thou hast filled me with indignation.

18 Why is mine heaviness continual? and my plague desperate and cannot be healed, why art thou unto me [t]as a liar, and as waters that fail?

19 Therefore thus saith the Lord, If thou [u]return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take away the [v]precious from the vile, thou shalt be [w]according to my word: let them return [x]unto thee, but return not thou unto them.

20 And I will make thee unto this people a strong brazen wall, and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not [y]prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee, and to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the tyrants.

Mark 1

The Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ, According to Mark

4 John baptizeth. 6 His apparel and meat. 9 Jesus is baptized. 12 He is tempted. 14 He preacheth the Gospel, 21 and 29 he teacheth in the Synagogues. 23 He healeth one that had a devil. 29 Peter’s mother-in-law. 32 Many diseased persons. 40 The leper.

The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God:

[a]As it is written in the [b]Prophets, (A)Behold, [c]I send my messenger [d]before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

(B)The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, is, Prepare the way of the Lord: make his paths straight.

(C)[e]John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the [f]baptism of amendment of life, for remission of sins.

And all the country of Judea, and they of Jerusalem went out unto him, and were all baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

(D)Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins: and he did eat (E)locusts and wild honey,

(F)[g]And preached, saying, A stronger than I cometh after me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to [h]stoop down, and unloose.

Truth it is, I have [i]baptized you with water: but he will baptize you with the holy Ghost.

(G)[j]And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth, a city of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

10 [k]And as soon as [l]he was come out of the water, John saw the heavens cloven in twain, and the holy Ghost descending upon him like a dove.

11 Then there was a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am [m]well pleased.

12 (H)[n]And immediately the Spirit [o]driveth him into the wilderness.

13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, and was tempted of Satan: he was also with the wild beasts, and the Angels ministered unto him.

14 (I)[p]Now after that John was committed to prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent and believe the Gospel.

16 (J)[q]And as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishers.)

17 Then Jesus said unto them, Follow me, and I will make you to be fishers of men.

18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.

19 [r]And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, as they were in the ship, mending their nets.

20 And anon he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with his hired servants, and went their way after him.

21 ¶ So (K)they entered into [s]Capernaum: and straightway on the Sabbath day he entered into the Synagogue, and taught.

22 And they were astonied at his doctrine, (L)for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the Scribes.

23 [t]And there was in their Synagogue a man [u]in whom was an unclean spirit, and he cried out,

24 Saying, Ah, what have we to do with thee, O [v]Jesus of Nazareth? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee what thou art, even thou [w]holy one of God.

25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

26 And the unclean spirit [x]tare him, and cried with a loud voice, and came out of him.

27 And they were all amazed, so that they demanded [y]one of another, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for he [z]commandeth even the foul spirits with authority, and they obey him.

28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region [aa]bordering on Galilee.

29 (M)[ab]And as soon as they were come out of the Synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

30 And Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they told him of her.

31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up, and the fever forsook her by and by, and she ministered unto them.

32 And when even was come, at what time the Sun setteth, they brought to him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.

33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door.

34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases: and he cast out many devils, and [ac]suffered not the devils to say that they knew him.

35 And in the morning very early before day, Jesus arose and went out into a solitary place, and there prayed.

36 And Simon, and they that were with him, followed carefully after him.

37 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.

38 Then he said unto them, Let us go into the [ad]next towns, that I may preach there also: for I came out for that purpose.

39 And he preached in their Synagogues, throughout all Galilee, and cast the devils out.

40 (N)[ae]And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeled down unto him, and said to him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

41 And Jesus had compassion, and put forth his hand, and touched him, and said to him, I will: be thou clean.

42 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean.

43 And after he had given him a straight commandment, he sent him away forthwith,

44 [af]And said unto him, See thou say nothing to any man, but get thee hence, and show thyself to the (O)[ag]Priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimonial unto them.

45 But when he was departed, (P)he began to tell many things, and to publish the matter: so that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
