Statutes About Divorce

24 “If a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens [a]that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some (A)indecency in her, and (B)he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out from his house, and she goes out of his house and goes and becomes another man’s wife, and if the latter husband [b]turns against her and writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies who took her to be his wife, then her (C)former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, since she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before Yahweh, and you shall not bring sin on the land which Yahweh your God gives you as an inheritance.

(D)When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go out with the army nor be charged with any duty; he shall be free at home one year and shall (E)give gladness to his wife whom he has taken.

Remember You Were Slaves in Egypt

“No one shall take a handmill or an upper millstone in pledge, for he would be taking a life in pledge.

(F)If a man is [c]caught kidnapping any of his brothers of the sons of Israel, and he mistreats him or sells him, then that thief shall die; so you shall purge the evil from among you.

(G)Take care against [d]an infection of leprosy, to be very careful and to do according to all that the Levitical priests instruct you; as I have commanded them, so you shall be careful to do. Remember what Yahweh your God did (H)to Miriam on the way as you came out of Egypt.

10 (I)When you make your neighbor a loan of any sort, you shall not enter his house to take his deposit. 11 You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you make the loan shall bring the deposit out to you. 12 Now if he is an afflicted man, you shall not sleep with his deposit. 13 (J)When the sun goes down you shall surely return the deposit to him, that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and (K)it will be righteousness for you before Yahweh your God.

14 (L)You shall not oppress a hired person who is afflicted and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of your sojourners who is in your land within your gates. 15 (M)You shall give him his wages on his day [e]before the sun goes down, for he is afflicted and sets his soul on it, so that (N)he will not cry against you to Yahweh and it become sin in you.

16 (O)Fathers shall not be put to death [f]for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death [g]for their fathers; each shall be put to death for his own sin.

17 (P)You shall not pervert the justice [h]due a sojourner or [i]an orphan, nor (Q)take a widow’s garment in pledge. 18 But you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and that Yahweh your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.

19 (R)When you reap your harvest in your field and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be (S)for the sojourner, for the [j]orphan, and for the widow, in order that Yahweh your God (T)may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20 (U)When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs after you finish; it shall be (V)for the sojourner, for the [k]orphan, and for the widow.

21 “When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it after you finish; it shall be for the sojourner, for the [l]orphan, and for the widow. 22 And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.

Psalm 114-115

When Israel Went Out from Egypt

114 When Israel went out (A)from Egypt,
The house of Jacob from a people of (B)strange language,
Judah became (C)His sanctuary,
Israel, (D)His dominion.

The (E)sea looked and fled;
The (F)Jordan turned back.
The mountains (G)skipped like rams,
The hills, like lambs.
What (H)disturbs you, O sea, that you flee?
O Jordan, that you turn back?
O mountains, that you skip like rams?
O hills, like lambs?

(I)Tremble, O earth, before the Lord,
Before the God of Jacob,
Who (J)turned the rock into a (K)pool of water,
The (L)flint into a spring of water.

To Yahweh’s Name Give Glory

115 (M)Not to us, O Yahweh, not to us,
But (N)to Your name give glory
Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your [a]truth.
(O)Why should the nations say,
(P)Where, now, is their God?”
But our (Q)God is in the heavens;
He (R)does whatever He pleases.
Their (S)idols are silver and gold,
The (T)work of man’s hands.
They have mouths, but they (U)do not speak;
They have eyes, but they do not see;
They have ears, but they do not hear;
They have noses, but they do not smell;
As for their hands, they do not feel;
As for their feet, they do not walk;
They do not make a sound with their throat.
(V)Those who make them [b]will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.

O (W)Israel, (X)trust in Yahweh;
He is their (Y)help and their shield.
10 O house of (Z)Aaron, trust in Yahweh;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who [c](AA)fear Yahweh, trust in Yahweh;
He is their help and their shield.
12 Yahweh (AB)remembered us; He will bless!
He will bless the house of Israel.
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will (AC)bless those who [d]fear Yahweh,
(AD)The small together with the great.
14 May Yahweh (AE)give you increase,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of Yahweh,
(AF)Who made heaven and earth.

16 The heavens are (AG)the heavens of Yahweh,
But (AH)the earth He has given to the sons of men.
17 It is not the (AI)dead that praise Yah,
And it is none of those who go down to (AJ)silence;
18 But as for us, we will (AK)bless Yah
From now until forever.
[e]Praise Yah!

Isaiah 51

Yahweh’s Righteousness Is Forever

51 (A)Listen to Me, you who (B)pursue righteousness,
Who seek Yahweh:
Look to the (C)rock from which you were hewn
And to the [a]quarry from which you were dug.
Look to (D)Abraham your father
And to Sarah who brought you forth through labor pains;
When he (E)was but one I called him,
Then I blessed him and multiplied him.”
Indeed, (F)Yahweh will comfort Zion;
He will comfort all her (G)waste places.
And her (H)wilderness He will make like (I)Eden,
And her desert like the (J)garden of Yahweh;
(K)Joy and gladness will be found in her,
Thanksgiving and sound of a melody.

(L)Pay attention to Me, O My people,
And give ear to Me, O My [b]nation;
For a (M)law will go forth from Me,
And I will [c]set My (N)justice for a (O)light of the peoples.
My (P)righteousness is near, My salvation has gone forth,
And My (Q)arms will judge the peoples;
The (R)coastlands will hope in Me,
And for My (S)arm they will wait expectantly.
(T)Lift up your eyes to the sky,
Then look to the earth beneath;
For the (U)sky will vanish like smoke,
And the (V)earth will wear out like a garment,
And its inhabitants will die [d]in like manner;
But My (W)salvation will be forever,
And My righteousness will not be dismayed.
(X)Listen to Me, you who know righteousness,
A people in whose (Y)heart is My law;
Do not fear the (Z)reproach of man,
Nor be dismayed at their revilings.
For the (AA)moth will eat them like a garment,
And the (AB)grub will eat them like wool.
But My (AC)righteousness will be forever,
And My salvation to all generations.”

(AD)Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Yahweh;
Awake as in the (AE)days of old, the generations of long ago.
(AF)Was it not You who chopped Rahab in pieces,
Who pierced the (AG)dragon?
10 Was it not You who (AH)dried up the sea,
The waters of the great deep,
Who made the depths of the sea a pathway
For the (AI)redeemed to cross over?
11 So the (AJ)ransomed of Yahweh will return
And come with joyful shouting to Zion,
And (AK)everlasting gladness will be on their heads.
They will obtain joy and gladness,
And (AL)sorrow and sighing will flee away.

12 “I, even I, am He who (AM)comforts you.
Who are you that you are afraid of (AN)man who dies
And of the son of man who is made (AO)like grass,
13 That you have (AP)forgotten Yahweh your Maker,
Who (AQ)stretched out the heavens
And laid the foundations of the earth,
That you (AR)tremble in dread continually all day long because of the wrath of the one who brings distress,
As he makes ready to bring ruin?
But where is the wrath of the (AS)one who brings distress?

14 The (AT)one in chains will soon be set free and will not die in the pit, (AU)nor will his bread be lacking. 15 For I am Yahweh your God, who (AV)stirs up the sea, and its waves roar—Yahweh of hosts is His name. 16 I have (AW)put My words in your mouth and have (AX)covered you with the shadow of My hand, to [e](AY)establish the heavens, to found the earth, and to say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’”

17 (AZ)Awaken yourself! Awaken yourself! Arise, O Jerusalem,
You who have (BA)drunk from the hand of Yahweh the cup of His wrath;
The [f]chalice of reeling you have [g]drained to the dregs.
18 There is (BB)none to guide her among all the sons she has borne,
Nor is there one to take hold of her by the hand among all the sons she has reared.
19 These two things have befallen you;
Who will console you?
The (BC)devastation and destruction, famine and sword;
How shall I comfort you?
20 Your sons have fainted;
They (BD)lie helpless at the head of every street,
Like an (BE)antelope in a net,
Full of the wrath of Yahweh,
The (BF)rebuke of your God.

21 Therefore, now, listen to this, you (BG)afflicted,
Who are (BH)drunk, but not with wine:
22 Thus says your Lord, Yahweh, even your God
Who (BI)contends for His people,
“Behold, I have taken out of your hand the (BJ)cup of reeling,
The [h]chalice of My wrath;
You will never drink it again.
23 I will (BK)set it into the hand of those who cause you grief,
Who have said to [i]you, ‘(BL)Lie down that we may walk over you.’
You have even set your back down like the ground
And like the street for those who walk over it.”

Revelation 21

The New Heaven and Earth

21 Then I saw (A)a new heaven and a new earth; for (B)the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw (C)the holy city, (D)new Jerusalem, (E)coming down out of heaven from God, (F)made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, (G)the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will [a](H)dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among [b]them, and He will (I)wipe away every tear from their eyes; and (J)there will no longer be any death; (K)there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain. (L)The first things passed away.”

And (M)He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am (N)making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for (O)these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “(P)They are done. I am the (Q)Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. (R)I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the (S)water of life without cost. (T)He who overcomes will inherit these things, and (U)I will be his God and he will be My son. (V)But for the cowardly and [c]unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in (W)the lake that burns with fire and [d]brimstone, which is the (X)second death.”

(Y)Then one of the seven angels who have the (Z)seven bowls [e]full of the (AA)seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, “(AB)Come here, I will show you the (AC)bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

New Jerusalem, the Holy City

10 And (AD)he carried me away [f](AE)in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me (AF)the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having (AG)the glory of God. Her [g]brilliance was like precious stone, as a (AH)stone of (AI)crystal-clear jasper. 12 [h]It had a great and high wall. [i]It had (AJ)twelve (AK)gates and at those gates, twelve angels; and names [j]have been written on those gates, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east and three gates on the north and three gates on the south and three gates on the west. 14 And the wall of the city had (AL)twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the (AM)twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 And the one who spoke with me had a [k]gold measuring (AN)rod to measure the city and its (AO)gates and its wall. 16 And the city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the [l]rod, [m]12,000 stadia; its length and width and height are equal. 17 And he measured its wall, [n]144 cubits, according to (AP)human [o]measurements, which are also (AQ)angelic measurements. 18 And the material of the wall was (AR)jasper, and the city was (AS)pure gold, like pure (AT)glass. 19 (AU)The foundation stones of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was (AV)jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, (AW)emerald; 20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, (AX)sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. 21 And the twelve (AY)gates were twelve (AZ)pearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was (BA)pure gold, like transparent (BB)glass.

22 And I saw (BC)no sanctuary in it, for the (BD)Lord God the Almighty and the (BE)Lamb are its sanctuary. 23 And the city (BF)has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for (BG)the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the (BH)Lamb. 24 (BI)And the nations will walk by its light, and the (BJ)kings of the earth [p]will bring their glory into it. 25 (BK)And its gates (BL)will never be closed by day, for (BM)there will be no night there; 26 and (BN)they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. 27 And (BO)nothing defiled, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those [q]whose names are (BP)written in the Lamb’s book of life.
