Deuteronomy 5

The Ten Commandments Repeated

Then Moses summoned all Israel and said to them:

“Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the judgments which I am speaking today in your [a]hearing, that you may learn them and be careful to do them. Yahweh our God cut (A)a covenant with us at Horeb. (B)Yahweh did not cut this covenant with our fathers, but with us, with all those of [b]us alive here today. Yahweh spoke to you (C)face to face at the mountain (D)from the midst of the fire. (E)I was standing between Yahweh and you at that time, to declare to you the word of Yahweh; (F)for you were afraid because of the fire and did not go up the mountain. [c]He said,

(G)I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of [d]slavery.
(H)You shall have no other gods [e]before Me.
(I)You shall not make for yourself [f]an idol—any likeness of what is in heaven above [g]or on the earth beneath [h]or in the water under the earth.
You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, (J)visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,
10 but (K)showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
11 (L)You shall not take the name of Yahweh your God in vain, for Yahweh will not [i]leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
12 (M)Observe the sabbath day to keep it holy, as Yahweh your God commanded you.
13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
14 but (N)the seventh day is a sabbath of Yahweh your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male slave or your female slave or your ox or your donkey or any of your cattle or your sojourner who is within your gates, so that your male slave and your female slave may rest as well as you.
15 (O)You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm; therefore Yahweh your God commanded you to observe the sabbath day.
16 (P)Honor your father and your mother, as Yahweh your God has commanded you, (Q)that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you on the land which Yahweh your God gives you.
17 (R)You shall not murder.
18 (S)You shall not commit adultery.
19 (T)You shall not steal.
20 (U)You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
21 (V)You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, and you shall not desire your neighbor’s house, his field, or his male slave or his female slave, his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.’

22 “These words Yahweh spoke to all your assembly at the mountain from the midst of the fire, of the cloud and of the dense gloom, with a great voice, and He added no more. (W)He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. 23 Now it happened that when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders. 24 And you said, ‘Behold, Yahweh our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire; we have seen today that God speaks with man, yet he lives. 25 (X)So now then why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of Yahweh our God any longer, then we will die. 26 For (Y)who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? 27 As for you, go near and hear all that Yahweh our God says; then speak to us all that Yahweh our God speaks to you, and we will hear and do it.’

28 “And Yahweh heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me, (Z)and Yahweh said to me, ‘I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken. 29 (AA)Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me and (AB)keep all My commandments all the days, that (AC)it may be well with them and with their sons forever! 30 Go, say to them, “Return to your tents.” 31 (AD)But as for you, stand here by Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments and the statutes and the judgments which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.’ 32 So you shall be careful to do just as Yahweh your God has commanded you; (AE)you shall not turn aside to the right or to the left. 33 (AF)In all the way which Yahweh your God has commanded you, you shall walk, (AG)that you may live and that it may be well with you and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.

Psalm 88

Incline Your Ear to My Cry

A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. For the choir director. According to Mahalath Leannoth. A [a]Maskil of Heman [b]the Ezrahite.

88 O Yahweh, the (A)God of my salvation,
I have (B)cried out by day and throughout the night before You.
Let my prayer (C)come before You;
(D)Incline Your ear to my cry of lamentation!
For my (E)soul has been saturated with calamities,
And (F)my life has reached Sheol.
I am counted among those who (G)go down to the pit;
I am like a man (H)without strength,
Released (I)among the dead,
Like the slain who lie in the grave,
Whom You remember no more,
And they are (J)cut off from Your hand.
You have put me in (K)the pit far below,
In (L)dark places, in the (M)depths.
Your wrath (N)lies upon me,
And You afflict me with (O)all Your breaking waves. [c]Selah.
You have removed (P)my acquaintances far from me;
You have set me as [d]an (Q)abomination to them;
I am (R)shut up and cannot go out.
My (S)eye has wasted away because of affliction;
I have (T)called upon You every day, O Yahweh;
I have (U)spread out my [e]hands to You.

10 Will You do wonders for the dead?
Will (V)the [f]departed spirits rise and praise You? Selah.
11 Will Your lovingkindness be recounted in the grave,
Your faithfulness in [g]Abaddon?
12 Will Your wonders be known in the (W)darkness?
And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

13 But as for me, O Yahweh, I have cried out (X)to You for help,
And (Y)in the morning my prayer comes before You.
14 O Yahweh, why (Z)do You reject my soul?
Why do You (AA)hide Your face from me?
15 I have been afflicted and (AB)about to breathe my last from my youth on;
I bear (AC)Your terrors; I am [h]overcome.
16 Your (AD)burning anger has passed over me;
Your horrors have [i](AE)destroyed me.
17 They have (AF)surrounded me (AG)like water all day long;
They have (AH)encompassed me altogether.
18 You have removed (AI)lover and friend far from me;
My acquaintances are in darkness.

Isaiah 33

The King in His Beauty

33 Woe (A)to you, O destroyer,
While you were not destroyed;
And he (B)who is treacherous, while others did not deal treacherously with him.
As soon as you finish destroying, (C)you will be destroyed;
As soon as you cease to deal treacherously, others will (D)deal treacherously with you.
O Yahweh, (E)be gracious to us; we have (F)hoped in You.
Be [a]their [b](G)strength every morning,
Our salvation also in the (H)time of distress.
At the sound of the tumult (I)peoples flee;
At the (J)lifting up of Yourself nations scatter.
Your spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathers;
As locusts rushing about men rush about on it.
Yahweh is (K)exalted, for He dwells on high;
He has (L)filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
And He will be the [c](M)stability of your times,
A (N)wealth of salvation, wisdom, and (O)knowledge;
The (P)fear of Yahweh is his treasure.
Behold, their brave men cry in [d]the streets;
The (Q)messengers of peace weep bitterly.
The highways are desolate, [e]the (R)traveler has ceased;
He has (S)broken the covenant, he has rejected the cities;
He has no regard for man.
(T)The land mourns and languishes,
(U)Lebanon is humiliated and withers;
(V)Sharon is like a desert plain,
And Bashan and Carmel [f]lose their foliage.
10 “Now (W)I will be on high,” says Yahweh,
“Now I will be lifted up, now I will be lifted up.
11 You have (X)conceived [g]chaff, you will give birth to stubble;
[h]My (Y)breath will consume you like a fire.
12 The peoples will be burned to lime,
(Z)Like cut thorns which are burned in the fire.

13 “You who are far away, (AA)hear what I have done;
And you who are near, [i]acknowledge My might.”
14 (AB)Sinners in Zion are in dread;
(AC)Trembling has seized the godless.
“Who among us can sojourn with (AD)the consuming fire?
Who among us can sojourn with [j]continual (AE)burning?”
15 He who (AF)walks righteously and speaks uprightly;
He who rejects greedy gain of [k]oppression,
And shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe;
He who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed
And (AG)shuts his eyes from looking upon evil;
16 He will dwell on the heights,
(AH)His refuge will be the strongholds of the cliffs;
(AI)His bread will be given him,
His water will be sure.

17 Your eyes will behold (AJ)the King in His beauty;
They will see (AK)a far-distant land.
18 Your heart will meditate on (AL)terror:
“Where is (AM)he who counts?
Where is he who weighs?
Where is he who counts the towers?”
19 You will no longer see a fierce people,
A people of [l](AN)unintelligible speech [m]which no one comprehends,
Of a stammering tongue [n]which no one understands.
20 (AO)Behold Zion, the city of our appointed times;
Your eyes will see Jerusalem, an (AP)abode at ease,
(AQ)A tent which will not be folded;
Its stakes will never be pulled up,
Nor any of its cords ever be torn apart.
21 But there the Mighty One, Yahweh, will be for us
A place of (AR)rivers and wide canals
On which no boat with oars will go,
And on which no mighty ship will pass—
22 For Yahweh is our (AS)judge,
Yahweh is (AT)our lawgiver,
Yahweh is (AU)our king;
(AV)He will save us—
23 Your cords hang slack;
They cannot hold the base of their mast firmly,
Nor spread out the sail.
Then the (AW)prey of an abundant spoil will be divided;
(AX)The lame will take the plunder.
24 And no one who dwells there will say, “I am (AY)sick”;
The people who inhabit [o]there will be (AZ)forgiven their iniquity.

Revelation 3

To the Church in Sardis

“And to the angel of the church in (A)Sardis write:

This is what He who has (B)the seven Spirits of God and (C)the seven stars, says: ‘(D)I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, [a]but you are (E)dead. Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of My God. So (F)remember [b]what you have received and heard; and keep it, and (G)repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, (H)I will come (I)like a thief, and you will not know at (J)what hour I will come to you. But you have a few [c](K)names in (L)Sardis who have not (M)defiled their garments, and they will walk with Me (N)in white, for they are worthy. (O)He who overcomes will thus be clothed in (P)white garments, and I will never (Q)erase his name from the book of life, and (R)I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. (S)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

To the Church in Philadelphia

“And to the angel of the church in (T)Philadelphia write:

(U)This is what He who is holy, (V)who is true, who has (W)the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says:

(X)I know your [d]deeds. Behold, I have given before you (Y)an open door which no one can shut, because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and (Z)have not denied My name. Behold, I am giving up those of (AA)the synagogue of Satan, those who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie. Behold, I will make them (AB)come and bow down before your feet, and make them know that (AC)I have loved you. 10 Because you have (AD)kept the word of (AE)My perseverance, (AF)I also will keep you from the hour of [e](AG)testing, which is about to come upon the whole [f](AH)world, to [g]test (AI)those who dwell on the earth. 11 (AJ)I am coming quickly; (AK)hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your (AL)crown. 12 (AM)He who overcomes, I will make him a (AN)pillar in the sanctuary of My God, and he will never go out from it anymore. And I will write on him the (AO)name of My God, and (AP)the name of the city of My God, (AQ)the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My (AR)new name. 13 (AS)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

To the Church in Laodicea

14 “And to the angel of the church in (AT)Laodicea write:

(AU)This is what the Amen, (AV)the faithful and true Witness, (AW)the [h]Beginning of the creation of God, says:

15 (AX)I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. (AY)I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will [i]spit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, “(AZ)I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and pitiable and poor and blind and naked. 18 I advise you to (BA)buy from Me (BB)gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and (BC)white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that (BD)the shame of your nakedness will not be manifested; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. 19 (BE)Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline. Therefore be zealous and (BF)repent. 20 Behold, I stand (BG)at the door and (BH)knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, (BI)I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. 21 (BJ)He who overcomes, I will grant to him (BK)to sit down with Me on My throne, as (BL)I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 (BM)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”
