Water from the Temple
47 Then he brought me back to the (A)door of the house; and behold, (B)water was flowing from under the threshold of the house toward the east, for the house faced east. And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar. 2 He brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around [a]on the outside to the outer gate by way of the gate that faces east. And behold, water was trickling from the south side.
3 When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water reaching the ankles. 4 Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the knees. Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the loins. 5 Again he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not ford, for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a (C)river that could not be forded. 6 He said to me, “Son of man, have you (D)seen this?” Then he brought me [b]back to the bank of the river. 7 Now when I had returned, behold, on the bank of the river there were very many (E)trees on the one side and on the other. 8 Then he said to me, “These waters go out toward the eastern region and go down into the (F)Arabah; then they go toward the sea, being made to flow into the (G)sea, and the waters of the sea become [c]fresh. 9 It will come about that every living creature which swarms in every place where the [d]river goes, will live. And there will be very many fish, for these waters go there and the others [e]become fresh; so (H)everything will live where the river goes. 10 And it will come about that (I)fishermen will stand beside it; from (J)Engedi to Eneglaim there will be a place for the (K)spreading of nets. Their fish will be according to their kinds, like the fish of the (L)Great Sea, (M)very many. 11 But its swamps and marshes will not become [f]fresh; they will be [g]left for (N)salt. 12 (O)By the river on its bank, on one side and on the other, will grow all kinds of (P)trees for food. Their (Q)leaves will not wither and their fruit will not fail. They will bear every month because their water flows from the sanctuary, and their fruit will be for food and their (R)leaves for healing.”
Boundaries and Division of the Land
13 Thus says the Lord [h]God, “This shall be the (S)boundary by which you shall divide the land for an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel; Joseph shall have two (T)portions. 14 You shall divide it for an inheritance, each one [i]equally with the other; for I [j](U)swore to give it to your forefathers, and this land shall fall to you [k]as an inheritance.
15 “This shall be the boundary of the land: on the (V)north side, from the Great Sea by the way of Hethlon, to the entrance of [l](W)Zedad; 16 [m](X)Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of (Y)Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazer-hatticon, which is by the border of Hauran. 17 The boundary shall [n]extend from the sea to (Z)Hazar-enan at the border of Damascus, and on the north toward the north is the border of Hamath. This is the north side.
18 “The (AA)east side, from between Hauran, Damascus, (AB)Gilead and the land of Israel, shall be the (AC)Jordan; from the north border to the eastern sea you shall measure. This is the east side.
19 “The (AD)south side toward the south shall extend from (AE)Tamar as far as the waters of (AF)Meribath-kadesh, to the (AG)brook of Egypt and to the (AH)Great Sea. This is the south side toward the south.
20 “The (AI)west side shall be the Great Sea, from the south border to a point opposite [o](AJ)Lebo-hamath. This is the west side.
21 “So you shall divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel. 22 You shall divide it by (AK)lot for an inheritance among yourselves and among the (AL)aliens who stay in your midst, who bring forth sons in your midst. And they shall be to you as the native-born among the sons of Israel; they shall be allotted an (AM)inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel. 23 And in the tribe with which the alien stays, there you shall give him his inheritance,” declares the Lord God.
Division of the Land
48 “Now (AN)these are the names of the tribes: from the northern extremity, [p]beside the way of Hethlon to [q]Lebo-hamath, as far as Hazar-enan at the border of Damascus, toward the north [r]beside Hamath, [s]running from east to west, (AO)Dan, one portion. 2 Beside the border of Dan, from the east side to the west side, (AP)Asher, one portion. 3 Beside the border of Asher, from the east side to the west side, (AQ)Naphtali, one portion. 4 Beside the border of Naphtali, from the east side to the west side, (AR)Manasseh, one portion. 5 Beside the border of Manasseh, from the east side to the west side, (AS)Ephraim, one portion. 6 Beside the border of Ephraim, from the east side to the west side, (AT)Reuben, one portion. 7 Beside the border of Reuben, from the east side to the west side, (AU)Judah, one portion.
8 “And beside the border of Judah, from the east side to the west side, shall be the [t]allotment which you shall [u]set apart, 25,000 [v]cubits in width, and in length like one of the portions, from the east side to the west side; and the (AV)sanctuary shall be in the middle of it. 9 The allotment that you shall set apart to the Lord shall be 25,000 cubits in length and 10,000 in width.
Portion for the Priests
10 The holy allotment shall be for these, namely for the (AW)priests, toward the north 25,000 cubits in length, toward the west 10,000 in width, toward the east 10,000 in width, and toward the south 25,000 in length; and the sanctuary of the Lord shall be in its midst. 11 It shall be for the priests who are sanctified of the (AX)sons of Zadok, who have kept My charge, who did not go astray when the sons of Israel went astray as the (AY)Levites went astray. 12 It shall be an allotment to them from the allotment of the land, a most holy place, by the border of the Levites. 13 Alongside the border of the priests the Levites shall have 25,000 cubits in length and 10,000 in width. The whole length shall be 25,000 cubits and the width 10,000. 14 Moreover, they (AZ)shall not sell or exchange any of it, or alienate this [w]choice portion of land; for it is holy to the Lord.
15 “The remainder, 5,000 cubits in width and 25,000 [x]in length, shall be for (BA)common use for the city, for dwellings and for [y]open spaces; and the city shall be in its midst. 16 These shall be its measurements: the north side 4,500 cubits, the south side (BB)4,500 cubits, the east side 4,500 cubits, and the west side 4,500 cubits. 17 The city shall have [z]open spaces: on the north 250 cubits, on the south 250 cubits, on the east 250 cubits, and on the west 250 cubits. 18 The remainder of the length alongside the holy allotment shall be 10,000 cubits toward the east and 10,000 toward the west; and it shall be [aa]alongside the holy allotment. And its produce shall be food for the workers of the city. 19 The workers of the city, out of all the tribes of Israel, shall cultivate it. 20 The whole allotment shall be 25,000 by 25,000 cubits; you shall [ab]set apart the holy allotment, a [ac]square, with the [ad]property of the city.
Portion for the Prince
21 “The (BC)remainder shall be for the prince, on the one side and on the other of the holy allotment and of the [ae]property of the city; in front of the 25,000 cubits of the allotment toward the east border and westward in front of the 25,000 toward the west border, alongside the portions, it shall be for the prince. And the holy allotment and the sanctuary of the house shall be in the middle of it. 22 Exclusive of the [af]property of the Levites and the [ag]property of the city, which are in the middle of that which belongs to the prince, everything between the border of Judah and the border of Benjamin shall be for the prince.
Portion for Other Tribes
23 “As for the rest of the tribes: from the east side to the west side, (BD)Benjamin, one portion. 24 Beside the border of Benjamin, from the east side to the west side, (BE)Simeon, one portion. 25 Beside the border of Simeon, from the east side to the west side, (BF)Issachar, one portion. 26 Beside the border of Issachar, from the east side to the west side, (BG)Zebulun, one portion. 27 Beside the border of Zebulun, from the east side to the west side, (BH)Gad, one portion. 28 And beside the border of Gad, at the south side toward the south, the border shall be from (BI)Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, to the brook of Egypt, to the (BJ)Great Sea. 29 This is the (BK)land which you shall divide by lot to the tribes of Israel for an inheritance, and these are their several portions,” declares the Lord [ah]God.
The City Gates
30 “These are the exits of the city: on the (BL)north side, 4,500 cubits by measurement, 31 [ai]shall be the gates of the city, [aj](BM)named for the tribes of Israel, three gates toward the north: the gate of Reuben, one; the gate of Judah, one; the gate of Levi, one. 32 On the east side, 4,500 cubits, [ak]shall be three gates: the gate of Joseph, one; the gate of Benjamin, one; the gate of Dan, one. 33 On the south side, 4,500 cubits by measurement, [al]shall be three gates: the gate of Simeon, one; the gate of Issachar, one; the gate of Zebulun, one. 34 On the west side, 4,500 cubits, shall be three gates: the gate of Gad, one; the gate of Asher, one; the gate of Naphtali, one. 35 The city shall be 18,000 cubits round about; and the (BN)name of the city from that day shall be, ‘[am]The (BO)Lord is there.’”
11 (A)Beloved, (B)I urge you as (C)aliens and strangers to abstain from (D)fleshly lusts which wage (E)war against the soul. 12 (F)Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they (G)slander you as evildoers, they may [a]because of your good deeds, as they observe them, (H)glorify God (I)in the day of [b]visitation.
Honor Authority
13 (J)Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, 14 or to governors as sent [c]by him (K)for the punishment of evildoers and the (L)praise of those who do right. 15 For [d](M)such is the will of God that by doing right you may (N)silence the ignorance of foolish men. 16 Act as (O)free men, and [e]do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as (P)bondslaves of God. 17 (Q)Honor all people, (R)love the brotherhood, (S)fear God, (T)honor the [f]king.
18 (U)Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and (V)gentle, but also to those who are [g]unreasonable. 19 For this finds [h]favor, if for the sake of (W)conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. 20 For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if (X)when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds [i]favor with God.
Christ Is Our Example
21 For (Y)you have been called for this purpose, (Z)since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you (AA)an example for you to follow in His steps, 22 who (AB)committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; 23 [j]and while being (AC)reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 and He Himself [k](AD)bore our sins in His body on the [l](AE)cross, so that we (AF)might die to [m]sin and live to righteousness; for (AG)by His [n]wounds you were (AH)healed. 25 For you were (AI)continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the (AJ)Shepherd and [o]Guardian of your souls.
Godly Living
3 (AK)In the same way, you wives, (AL)be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be (AM)won without a word by the behavior of their wives, 2 as they observe your chaste and [p]respectful behavior. 3 (AN)Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; 4 but let it be (AO)the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this way in former times the holy women also, (AP)who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands; 6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, (AQ)calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right [q](AR)without being frightened by any fear.
7 (AS)You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with [r](AT)someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
Zayin.
49 Remember the word to Your servant,
[a]In which You have made me hope.
50 This is my (A)comfort in my affliction,
That Your word has [b]revived me.
51 The arrogant (B)utterly deride me,
Yet I do not (C)turn aside from Your law.
52 I have (D)remembered Your ordinances from [c]of old, O Lord,
And comfort myself.
53 Burning (E)indignation has seized me because of the wicked,
Who (F)forsake Your law.
54 Your statutes are my songs
In the house of my (G)pilgrimage.
55 O Lord, I (H)remember Your name (I)in the night,
And keep Your law.
56 This has become mine,
[d]That I (J)observe Your precepts.
Heth.
57 The Lord is my (K)portion;
I have [e]promised to (L)keep Your words.
58 I (M)sought Your favor (N)with all my heart;
(O)Be gracious to me (P)according to Your [f]word.
59 I (Q)considered my ways
And turned my feet to Your testimonies.
60 I hastened and did not delay
To keep Your commandments.
61 The (R)cords of the wicked have encircled me,
But I have (S)not forgotten Your law.
62 At (T)midnight I shall rise to give thanks to You
Because of Your (U)righteous ordinances.
63 I am a (V)companion of all those who [g]fear You,
And of those who keep Your precepts.
64 (W)The earth is full of Your lovingkindness, O Lord;
(X)Teach me Your statutes.
