15 For thus says the One (A)high and lifted up
Who (B)dwells forever, whose name is Holy,
“I (C)dwell on a high and holy place,
And also with the (D)crushed and lowly of spirit
In order to (E)revive the spirit of the lowly
And to revive the heart of the crushed.
16 For I will (F)not contend forever,
(G)Nor will I always be angry;
For the spirit would grow faint before Me,
And the (H)breath of those whom I have made.
17 Because of the iniquity of his (I)greedy gain I was angry and struck him;
I hid My face and was angry,
And he went on (J)turning away, in the way of his heart.
18 I have seen his ways, but I will (K)heal him;
I will (L)lead him and (M)pay him and his mourners in full with comfort,
19 Creating the [a](N)praise of the lips.
(O)Peace, peace to him who is (P)far and to him who is near,”
Says Yahweh, “and I will heal him.”
20 But the (Q)wicked are like the tossing sea,
For it cannot be quiet,
And its waters toss up refuse and mud.
21 “(R)There is no peace,” says (S)my God, “for the wicked.”
Fasting as Yahweh Chooses
58 “(T)Call out from your throat, do not hold back;
Raise your voice like a trumpet,
And declare to My people their (U)transgression
And to the house of Jacob their sins.
2 Yet they (V)seek Me day by day and find pleasure in knowing My ways,
As a nation that has done (W)righteousness
And (X)has not forsaken the judgment of their God.
They ask Me for righteous judgments;
They find pleasure in (Y)the nearness of God.
3 ‘Why have we (Z)fasted and You do not see?
Why have we afflicted our souls and You do not know?’
Behold, on the (AA)day of your fast you find your desire,
And oppress all your workers.
4 Behold, you fast for contention and (AB)quarreling and to strike with a wicked fist.
You do not fast like you do today to (AC)make your voice heard on high.
5 Is it a fast like this which I choose, a day for a man to afflict himself?
Is it for bowing [b]one’s head like a reed
And for spreading out (AD)sackcloth and ashes as a bed?
Will you call this a fast, even an (AE)acceptable day to Yahweh?
6 Is this not the fast which I choose,
To (AF)loosen the bonds of wickedness,
To release the bands of [c]the yoke,
And to (AG)let the oppressed go free
And (AH)break every [d]yoke?
7 Is it not to (AI)divide your bread [e]with the hungry
And (AJ)bring the afflicted homeless into the house;
When you see the (AK)naked, you cover him;
And not to (AL)hide yourself from your own flesh?
8 Then your (AM)light will break out like the dawn,
And your (AN)recovery will speedily spring forth;
And your (AO)righteousness will go before you;
The glory of (AP)Yahweh will be your rear guard.
9 Then you will (AQ)call, and Yahweh will answer;
You will cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
If you (AR)remove the [f]yoke from your midst,
The [g](AS)pointing of the finger and (AT)speaking wickedness,
10 And if you [h](AU)offer your soul to the hungry
And satisfy the soul of the afflicted,
Then your (AV)light will rise in darkness
And your thick darkness will become like midday.
11 And (AW)Yahweh will continually guide you,
And (AX)satisfy your soul in scorched places,
And (AY)fortify your bones;
And you will be like a (AZ)watered garden,
And like a (BA)spring of water whose waters do not [i]fail.
12 Those from among you will (BB)rebuild the ancient waste places;
You will (BC)raise up the foundations of past generation upon generation;
And you will be called the repairer of the (BD)breach,
The restorer of the paths for one to inhabit.
Keeping the Sabbath
13 “If because of the sabbath, you (BE)turn your foot
From doing your own desire on My holy day,
And call the sabbath a (BF)delight, the holy day of Yahweh honorable,
And honor it, by not doing your (BG)own ways,
By not finding your own desire
And (BH)speaking your own word,
14 Then you will take (BI)delight in Yahweh,
And I will make you ride (BJ)on the heights of the earth;
And I will feed you with the inheritance of Jacob your father,
For the (BK)mouth of Yahweh has spoken.”
Separation from Yahweh
59 Behold, (BL)the hand of Yahweh is not so short
That it cannot save;
(BM)Nor is His ear so [j]dull
That it cannot hear.
2 But your (BN)iniquities have made a separation between you and your God,
And your sins have hidden His [k]face from you so that He does (BO)not hear.
3 For your (BP)hands are defiled with blood
And your fingers with iniquity;
Your lips have spoken a (BQ)lie;
Your tongue mutters unrighteousness.
4 (BR)No one calls in righteousness, and (BS)no one seeks justice in truth.
They (BT)trust in [l]confusion and speak worthlessness;
They (BU)conceive trouble and give birth to wickedness.
5 They break open vipers’ eggs and (BV)weave the spider’s web;
He who eats of their eggs dies,
And from that which is crushed a snake breaks forth.
6 Their webs will not become a garment,
Nor will they (BW)cover themselves with their works;
Their (BX)works are works of wickedness,
And a (BY)deed of violence is in their [m]hands.
7 (BZ)Their feet run to evil,
And they are quick to shed innocent blood;
(CA)Their thoughts are thoughts of wickedness;
Devastation and destruction are in their highways.
8 They do not know the (CB)way of peace,
And there is (CC)no justice in their tracks;
They have made their paths crooked,
(CD)Whoever treads on [n]them does not know peace.
Trangressing and Denying Yahweh
9 Therefore (CE)justice is far from us,
And righteousness does not overtake us;
We (CF)hope for light, but behold, darkness,
For brightness, but we walk in thick darkness.
10 We (CG)grope along the wall like blind men;
We grope like those who have no eyes;
We (CH)stumble at midday as in the twilight,
Among those who are vigorous we are (CI)like dead men.
11 All of us growl like bears,
And (CJ)moan sadly like doves;
We hope for (CK)justice, but there is none,
For salvation, but it is far from us.
12 For our (CL)transgressions are multiplied before You,
And our (CM)sins answer against us;
For our transgressions are with us,
And [o]we know our iniquities:
13 Transgressing and (CN)denying Yahweh,
And turning back from our God,
Speaking (CO)oppression and revolt,
Conceiving in and (CP)uttering from the heart lying words.
14 (CQ)Justice is turned back,
And (CR)righteousness stands far away;
For truth has stumbled in the street,
And rightness cannot enter.
15 So it is that truth is missing;
And he who turns aside from evil (CS)makes himself plunder.
Then Yahweh saw,
And it was evil in His eyes (CT)that there was no justice.
16 And He saw that there was (CU)no man,
And was astonished that there was no one to intercede;
Then His (CV)own arm brought salvation to Him,
And His righteousness upheld Him.
17 He put on (CW)righteousness like a breastplate,
And a (CX)helmet of salvation on His head;
And He put on (CY)garments of vengeance for clothing
And wrapped Himself with (CZ)zeal as a mantle.
18 (DA)According to [p]what they deserve, [q]so He will pay in full,
Wrath to His adversaries, [r]what is deserved to His enemies;
To the coastlands He will [s]pay what they deserve.
19 So they will fear the name of Yahweh from the (DB)west
And His glory from the (DC)rising of the sun,
For He will (DD)come like a [t]rushing stream
Which the wind of Yahweh makes flee.
20 “A (DE)Redeemer will come to Zion,
And to those who (DF)turn from transgression in Jacob,” declares Yahweh.
21 “As for Me, this is My (DG)covenant with them,” says Yahweh: “My (DH)Spirit which is upon you, and My (DI)words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your seed, nor from the mouth of your seed’s seed,” says Yahweh, “from now and forever.”
Thanksgiving
1 (A)Paul and (B)Timothy, (C)slaves of (D)Christ Jesus,
To (E)all the [a](F)saints in Christ Jesus who are in (G)Philippi, with the (H)overseers and (I)deacons: 2 (J)Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 (K)I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always offering prayer with joy in (L)my every prayer for you all, 5 because of your [b](M)fellowship in the (N)gospel (O)from the first day until now. 6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until (P)the day of Christ Jesus. 7 [c]For (Q)it is only right for me to think this way about you all, because I (R)have you in my heart, since both in my (S)chains and in the (T)defense and confirmation of the (U)gospel, you all are fellow partakers with me in this grace. 8 For (V)God is my witness, how I long for you all with the [d]affection of (W)Christ Jesus. 9 And this I pray, that (X)your love may abound still more and more in (Y)full knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may [e](Z)approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and without fault [f]until (AA)the day of Christ, 11 having been filled with the (AB)fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
The Progress of the Gospel
12 Now I want you to know, brothers, that my circumstances (AC)have turned out for the greater progress of the (AD)gospel, 13 so that my (AE)chains in Christ have become well known throughout the whole [g]praetorian guard and to (AF)everyone else, 14 and that most of the [h]brothers, having become confident in the Lord because of my (AG)chains, have (AH)far more courage to speak the word of God without fear. 15 (AI)Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even [i]from envy and strife, but some also [j]from good will; 16 the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the (AJ)gospel; 17 the former proclaim Christ (AK)out of selfish ambition [k]rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me affliction in my (AL)chains. 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in this I rejoice.
Yes, and I will rejoice, 19 for I know that (AM)this will turn out for my salvation (AN)through your [l]prayers and the provision of (AO)the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20 according to my (AP)earnest expectation and (AQ)hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with (AR)all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be (AS)magnified in my body, (AT)whether by life or by death.
To Live Is Christ
21 For to me, (AU)to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 [m]But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean (AV)fruitful labor for me; and I do not know what I will choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed [n]between the two, having the (AW)desire to depart and (AX)be with Christ, for that is very much better, 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. 25 (AY)And convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy [o]in the faith, 26 so that your reason for (AZ)boasting may abound in Christ Jesus in me, through my coming to you again.
O God, Do Not Forsake Me
71 (A)In You, O Yahweh, I have taken refuge;
Let me never be ashamed.
2 (B)In Your righteousness deliver me and protect me;
(C)Incline Your ear to me and save me.
3 (D)Be to me a rock of (E)habitation to which I may continually come;
You have given the (F)command to save me,
For You are (G)my [a]rock and my fortress.
4 (H)Protect me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,
Out of the [b]grasp of the unrighteous and ruthless man,
5 For You are my (I)hope;
O Lord Yahweh, You are my (J)trust from my youth.
6 [c]By You I have been (K)sustained from my birth;
You are He who (L)took me from my mother’s womb;
My (M)praise is continually [d]of You.
7 I have become a (N)marvel to many,
For You are (O)my strong refuge.
8 My (P)mouth is filled with Your praise
And with (Q)Your beauty all day long.
9 Do not cast me off in the (R)time of old age;
Do not forsake me when my strength fails.
10 For my enemies have spoken [e]against me;
And those who (S)watch my [f]life (T)have counseled together,
11 Saying, “(U)God has forsaken him;
Pursue and seize him, for there is (V)no one to deliver.”
12 O God, (W)do not be far from me;
O my God, (X)hasten to my help!
13 Let those who accuse my soul be (Y)ashamed and consumed;
Let them be (Z)wrapped up with reproach and dishonor, who (AA)seek [g]to do me evil.
14 But as for me, I will (AB)wait continually,
And will [h](AC)praise You yet more and more.
15 My (AD)mouth shall recount Your righteousness
And (AE)Your salvation all day long;
For I (AF)do not know the [i]sum of them.
16 I will come (AG)with the mighty deeds of Lord Yahweh;
I will (AH)bring to remembrance Your righteousness, Yours alone.
17 O God, You (AI)have taught me from my youth,
And I still (AJ)declare Your wondrous deeds.
18 And even when I am (AK)old and gray, O God, do not forsake me,
Until I (AL)declare Your [j]strength to this generation,
Your might to all who are to come.
19 [k]For Your (AM)righteousness, O God, reaches to the [l]heavens,
You who have (AN)done great things;
O God, (AO)who is like You?
20 You, who have (AP)shown [m]me many troubles and [n]evils,
Will (AQ)revive [o]me again,
And will bring [p]me up again (AR)from the depths of the earth.
21 May You increase my (AS)greatness
And turn to (AT)comfort me.
22 I will also praise You with [q](AU)a harp,
Even Your [r]truth, O my God;
To You I will sing praises with the (AV)lyre,
O (AW)Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will (AX)sing for joy when I sing praises to You;
And my (AY)soul, which You have redeemed.
24 My (AZ)tongue also will utter Your righteousness all day long;
For they are (BA)ashamed, for they are humiliated who seek [s]to do me evil.
