Psalm 23

Psalm 23[a]

A psalm of David.

23 The Lord is my shepherd,[b]
I lack nothing.[c]
He takes me to lush pastures,[d]
he leads me to refreshing water.[e]
He restores my strength.[f]
He leads me down[g] the right paths[h]
for the sake of his reputation.[i]
Even when I must walk through the darkest valley,[j]
I fear[k] no danger,[l]
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff reassure me.[m]
You prepare a feast before me[n]
in plain sight of my enemies.
You refresh[o] my head with oil;
my cup is completely full.[p]
Surely your goodness and faithfulness[q] will pursue[r] me all my days,[s]
and I will live in[t] the Lord’s house[u] for the rest of my life.[v]

Exodus 3:16-22

16 “Go and bring together[a] the elders of Israel and tell them, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers,[b] appeared[c] to me—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—saying, “I have attended carefully to[d] you and to what has been done[e] to you in Egypt, 17 and I have promised[f] that I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites,[g] to a land flowing with milk and honey.”’

18 “The elders[h] will listen[i] to you, and then you and the elders of Israel must go to the king of Egypt and tell him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met[j] with us. So now, let us go[k] three days’ journey into the wilderness, so that we may sacrifice[l] to the Lord our God.’ 19 But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go,[m] not even under force.[n] 20 So I will extend my hand[o] and strike Egypt with all my wonders[p] that I will do among them, and after that he will release you.[q]

21 “I will grant this people favor with[r] the Egyptians, so that when[s] you depart you will not leave empty-handed. 22 Every[t] woman will ask her neighbor and the one who happens to be staying[u] in her house for items of silver and gold[v] and for clothing. You will put these articles on your sons and daughters—thus you will plunder Egypt!”[w]

Exodus 4:18-20

The Return of Moses

18 [a] So Moses went back[b] to his father-in-law Jethro and said to him, “Let me go, so that I may return[c] to my relatives[d] in Egypt and see[e] if they are still alive.” Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.” 19 The Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Go back[f] to Egypt, because all the men who were seeking your life are dead.”[g] 20 Then Moses took[h] his wife and sons[i] and put them on a donkey and headed back[j] to the land of Egypt, and Moses took the staff of God in his hand.

1 Peter 2:13-17

Submission to Authorities

13 Be subject to every human institution[a] for the Lord’s sake, whether to a king as supreme 14 or to governors as those he commissions[b] to punish wrongdoers and praise[c] those who do good. 15 For God wants you[d] to silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good. 16 Live[e] as free people, not using your freedom as a pretext for evil, but as God’s slaves.[f] 17 Honor all people, love the family of believers,[g] fear God, honor the king.
