Old/New Testament
Hosea’s Wife and Children
1 The word of [a]Yahweh which came to (A)Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days of (B)Uzziah, (C)Jotham, (D)Ahaz, and (E)Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of (F)Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.
2 When Yahweh first spoke through Hosea, Yahweh said to Hosea, “(G)Go, take for yourself a wife of harlotry and have children of harlotry; for (H)the land commits flagrant harlotry, [b]forsaking Yahweh.” 3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and (I)gave birth to a son for him. 4 And Yahweh said to him, “Name him (J)Jezreel; for yet a little while, and (K)I will visit the bloodshed of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and (L)I will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease. 5 And it will be in that day, that I will (M)break the bow of Israel in the (N)valley of Jezreel.”
6 Then she conceived again and gave birth to a daughter. And [c]Yahweh said to him, “Name her [d]Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer (O)have compassion on the house of Israel, that I would ever forgive them. 7 But I will have (P)compassion on the house of Judah and (Q)save them by Yahweh their God, and I will not save them by (R)bow, sword, battle, horses, or horsemen.”
8 Then she weaned Lo-ruhamah. And she conceived and gave birth to a son. 9 And [e]Yahweh said, “Name him [f]Lo-ammi, for you are not My people, and I am not [g]your God.”
10 [h]Yet the number of the sons of Israel
Will be like the (S)sand of the sea,
Which cannot be measured or numbered;
And it will be that (T)in the place
Where it is said to them,
“You are (U)not My people,”
It will be said to them,
“You are the (V)sons of the living God.”
11 And the (W)sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be (X)gathered together,
And they will set for themselves (Y)one head,
And they will go up from the land,
For great will be the day of Jezreel.
No Compassion for Children of Harlotry
2 [i]Say to your brothers, “[j]Ammi,” and to your sisters, “[k]Ruhamah.”
2 “Contend with your mother, (Z)contend,
For she is (AA)not my wife, and I am not her husband;
And let her remove her (AB)harlotry from her face
And her adultery from between her breasts,
3 Lest I strip her (AC)naked
And set her forth as on the (AD)day when she was born
And (AE)make her like a wilderness
And [l]make her like dry land
And put her to death with (AF)thirst.
4 Also, I will have no compassion on her children
Because they are (AG)children of harlotry.
5 For their mother has (AH)played the harlot;
She who conceived them has acted shamefully.
For she said, ‘(AI)I will go after my lovers,
Who (AJ)give me my bread and my water,
My wool and my flax, my (AK)oil and my drink.’
6 Therefore, behold, I will (AL)hedge up [m]her way with (AM)thorns,
And I will build [n]a wall against her so that she cannot find her (AN)paths.
7 So she will (AO)pursue her lovers, but she will not overtake them;
And she will seek them, but will not find them.
Then she will say, ‘(AP)I will go, and I will return to my (AQ)first husband,
For it was (AR)better for me then than now!’
8 “Now she does (AS)not know that it was (AT)I who gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil,
And multiplied silver and gold for her,
Which they [o]used for Baal.
9 Therefore, I will (AU)take back My grain at [p]harvest time
And My new wine in its season.
I will also deliver My wool and My flax from them
Given to cover her nakedness.
10 So now I will (AV)uncover her lewdness
In the sight of her lovers,
And no one will deliver her out of My hand.
11 I will also (AW)cease all her joy,
Her (AX)feasts, her (AY)new moons, her sabbaths,
And all her appointed times.
12 And I will (AZ)make desolate her vines and fig trees,
Of which she said, ‘These are my wages
Which my lovers have given me.’
And I will (BA)make them a forest,
And the (BB)beasts of the field will devour them.
13 So I will visit the (BC)days of the Baals upon her
When she used to [q](BD)offer offerings in smoke to them
And (BE)adorn herself with her [r]earrings and jewelry
And go after her lovers, so that she (BF)forgot Me,” declares Yahweh.
Yahweh’s Faithful Betrothal
14 “Therefore, behold, I will allure her
(BG)And bring her into the wilderness
And speak to her heart.
15 Then I will give her her (BH)vineyards from there
And (BI)the valley of Achor as a door of hope.
And she will [s](BJ)sing there as in the days of her youth,
As in the (BK)day when she came up from the land of Egypt.
16 And it will be in that day,” declares Yahweh,
“That you will call Me [t](BL)Ishi
And will no longer call Me [u]Baali.
17 So (BM)I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth
So that they will be remembered by their names no more.
18 And in that day I will cut a covenant for them
With the (BN)beasts of the field,
The birds of the sky,
And the creeping things of the ground.
And I will (BO)break the bow, the sword, and war from the land,
And I will make them (BP)lie down in security.
19 And I will (BQ)betroth you to Me forever;
Indeed, I will betroth you to Me in (BR)righteousness and in justice,
In lovingkindness and in compassion,
20 And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness.
Then you will (BS)know Yahweh.
21 “And it will be in that day, that (BT)I will answer,” declares Yahweh.
“I will answer the heavens, and they will answer the earth,
22 And the (BU)earth will answer the grain, the new wine, and the oil,
And they will answer [v]Jezreel.
23 And I will (BV)sow her for Myself in the land.
(BW)I will also have compassion on [w]her who had not obtained compassion,
And (BX)I will say to [x]those who were (BY)not My people,
‘You are My people!’
And [y]they will say, ‘You are my God!’”
Hosea Marries Again
3 Then Yahweh said to me, “Go again, love a [z]woman who is loved by her companion and is an adulteress, even (BZ)as Yahweh loves the sons of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love raisin (CA)cakes.” 2 So I (CB)bargained for her for myself for fifteen [aa]shekels of silver and a [ab]homer and a [ac]half of barley. 3 Then I said to her, “You shall (CC)stay with me for many days. You shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a [ad]man; so I will also be toward you.” 4 For the sons of Israel will remain for many days (CD)without king or prince, (CE)without sacrifice or sacred (CF)pillar, and without (CG)ephod or [ae](CH)household idols. 5 Afterward the sons of Israel will (CI)return and seek Yahweh their God and (CJ)David their king; and (CK)they will come [af]in dread to Yahweh and to His goodness in the last days.
Yahweh’s Contention with Israel
4 (CL)Listen to the word of Yahweh, O sons of Israel,
For Yahweh has a (CM)contention against the inhabitants of the land,
Because there is (CN)no truth or [ag]lovingkindness
Or (CO)knowledge of God in the land.
2 There is (CP)swearing of oaths, (CQ)deception, (CR)murder, (CS)stealing, and (CT)adultery.
They break forth in violence so that (CU)bloodshed [ah]follows bloodshed.
3 Therefore the land (CV)mourns,
And everyone who inhabits it languishes
Along with the beasts of the field and the birds of the sky,
And also the fish of the sea [ai]disappear.
4 Yet let no man (CW)contend, and let no man offer reproof;
Indeed, your people are like those who (CX)contend with the priest.
5 So you will (CY)stumble by day,
And the prophet also will stumble with you by night;
And I will destroy your (CZ)mother.
6 (DA)My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Because you have (DB)rejected knowledge,
I also will (DC)reject you from ministering as My priest.
Since you have (DD)forgotten the (DE)law of your God,
I Myself also will forget your children.
7 The more they (DF)multiplied, the more they sinned against Me;
I will (DG)change their glory into disgrace.
8 They (DH)eat the [aj]sin of My people
And (DI)lift up [ak]their soul toward their iniquity.
9 And it will be like people, (DJ)like priest;
So I will (DK)punish them for their ways
And cause their deeds to return to them.
10 (DL)They will eat, but not be satisfied;
They will (DM)play the harlot, but not break forth in number,
Because they have [al](DN)forsaken Yahweh to keep harlotry.
11 Harlotry, (DO)wine, and new wine take away a heart of wisdom.
12 My people (DP)ask their wooden idol, and their diviner’s wand declares to them;
For a spirit of harlotry has led them astray,
And they have played the harlot, departing [am]from their God.
13 They offer sacrifices on the (DQ)tops of the mountains
And [an](DR)burn incense on the hills,
(DS)Under oak, poplar, and terebinth
Because their shade is good.
Therefore your daughters play the harlot,
And your [ao]brides commit adultery.
14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot
Or your [ap]brides when they commit adultery,
For the men themselves go apart with harlots
And offer sacrifices with (DT)cult prostitutes;
So the people without understanding are [aq]ruined.
15 Though you, Israel, play the harlot,
Do not let Judah become guilty;
Also do not go to (DU)Gilgal
Nor go up to Beth-aven
(DV)And swear the oath:
“As Yahweh lives!”
16 Since Israel is (DW)stubborn
Like a stubborn heifer,
[ar]Can Yahweh now (DX)feed them
Like a lamb in a large field?
17 Ephraim is joined to (DY)idols;
(DZ)Let him alone.
18 Their drink gone;
They play the harlot continually;
(EA)Their [as]rulers dearly love disgrace.
19 (EB)The wind binds them up in its wings,
And they will be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ
1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which (A)God gave Him to (B)show to His slaves (C)the things which must soon happen; and He indicated this (D)by sending it through His angel to His slave [a](E)John, 2 who bore witness to (F)the word of God and to (G)the witness of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 (H)Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy and keep the things which are written in it, (I)for the time is near.
Message to the Seven Churches
4 (J)John to (K)the seven churches that are in (L)Asia: (M)Grace to you and peace, from (N)the One who is and who was and who [b]is to come, and from (O)the seven Spirits who are before His throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, (P)the faithful witness, the (Q)firstborn of the dead, and the (R)ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who (S)loves us and released us from our sins [c]by His blood— 6 and He has made us to be a (T)kingdom, (U)priests to [d](V)His God and Father—(W)to Him be the glory and the might forever and ever. Amen. 7 (X)Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and (Y)every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will (Z)mourn over Him. Yes, amen.
8 “I am (AA)the Alpha and the Omega,” says the [e](AB)Lord God, “(AC)who is and who was and who [f]is to come, the Almighty.”
The Vision of the Son of Man
9 (AD)I, John, your (AE)brother and (AF)fellow partaker in the tribulation and (AG)kingdom and [g](AH)perseverance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos (AI)because of the word of God and the witness of Jesus. 10 I was [h](AJ)in the Spirit on (AK)the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice (AL)like a trumpet, 11 saying, “(AM)Write in a scroll what you see, and send it to the (AN)seven churches: to (AO)Ephesus and to (AP)Smyrna and to (AQ)Pergamum and to (AR)Thyatira and to (AS)Sardis and to (AT)Philadelphia and to (AU)Laodicea.”
12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw (AV)seven golden lampstands; 13 and (AW)in the middle of the lampstands I saw one (AX)like [i]a son of man, (AY)clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and (AZ)girded across His chest with a golden sash. 14 And His head and His (BA)hair were white like white wool, like snow; and (BB)His eyes were like a flame of fire. 15 His (BC)feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His (BD)voice was like the sound of many waters, 16 and having in His right hand (BE)seven stars, and a (BF)sharp two-edged sword which comes out of His mouth, and His (BG)face was like (BH)the sun [j]shining in its power.
17 And when I saw Him, I (BI)fell at His feet like a dead man. And He (BJ)placed His right hand on me, saying, “(BK)Do not fear; (BL)I am the first and the last, 18 and the (BM)living One; and I [k](BN)was dead, and behold, I am alive forever and ever, and I have (BO)the keys of death and of Hades. 19 Therefore (BP)write (BQ)the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place (BR)after these things. 20 As for the (BS)mystery of the (BT)seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the (BU)seven golden lampstands: the (BV)seven stars are the angels of (BW)the seven churches, and the seven (BX)lampstands are the seven churches.
