The Third Book of Moses, called [a]Leviticus

1 Of burnt offerings for particular persons. 3, 10, and 14 The manner to offer burnt offerings as well of bullocks, as of sheep and birds.

Now the [b]Lord called Moses, and spake unto him out of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, saying,

Speak unto the children of Israel, and thou shalt say unto them, If any of you offer a sacrifice unto the Lord, ye shall offer your sacrifice of [c]cattle, as of beeves and of the sheep.

(A)If his sacrifice be a burnt offering of the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish, presenting him of his own voluntary will at the door of the [d]Tabernacle of the Congregation before the Lord.

And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be accepted [e]to the Lord, to be his atonement.

And [f]he shall kill the bullock before the Lord, and the Priests Aaron’s sons shall offer the blood, and shall sprinkle it round about upon the [g]altar, that is by the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

Then shall he slay the burnt offering, and cut it in pieces.

So the sons of Aaron the Priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire.

Then the Priests Aaron’s sons shall lay the parts in order, the head and the [h]caul upon the wood that is in the fire which is upon the altar.

But the inwards thereof and the legs thereof he shall wash in water, and the Priest shall burn all on the altar: for it is a burnt offering, an oblation made by fire, for a sweet savor [i]unto the Lord.

10 ¶ And if his sacrifice for the burnt offering be of the flocks (as of the sheep, or of the goats) he shall offer a male without blemish.

11 [j]And he shall kill it on the North side of the altar [k]before the Lord, and the Priests Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle the blood thereof round about upon the altar.

12 And he shall cut it in [l]pieces, separating his head and his [m]caul, and the Priest shall lay them in order upon the wood that lieth in the fire which is on the altar:

13 But he shall wash the inwards, and the legs with water, and the Priest shall offer the whole and burn it upon the altar: for it is a burnt offering, an oblation made by fire for a sweet savor unto the Lord.

14 ¶ And if his sacrifice be a burnt offering to the Lord of the fowls, then shall he offer his sacrifice of the turtledoves, or of the young pigeons.

15 And the Priest shall bring it unto the altar, and [n]wring the neck of it asunder, and burn it on the altar: and the blood thereof shall be [o]shed upon the side of the altar.

16 And he shall pluck out his maw with his feathers, and cast them beside the altar on the [p]East part in the place of the ashes.

17 And he shall cleave it with his wings, but not divide it asunder: and the Priest shall burn it upon the altar upon the wood that is in the fire: for it is a burnt offering, an oblation made by fire for a sweet savor unto the Lord.

John 20

20 1 Mary bringeth word that Christ is risen: 3 Peter and John 4 run to see it. 15 Jesus appeareth to Mary, 19 and to the disciples that were together in the house, 25 Thomas, before faithless, 29 now believeth.

Now (A)[a]the first day of the week came Mary Magdalene, early when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher, and saw the stone taken away from the tomb.

Then she ran, and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher, and we know not where they have laid him.

Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, and they came unto the sepulcher.

So they ran both together, but the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulcher.

And he stooped down, and saw the linen clothes lying: yet went he not in.

Then came Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulcher, and saw the linen clothes lie,

And the kerchief that was upon his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

Then went in also the other disciple, which came first to the sepulcher, and he saw it, and believed.

For as yet they knew not the Scripture, That he must rise again from the dead.

10 And the disciples went away again unto their own home.

11 (B)But Mary stood [b]without at the sepulcher weeping: and as she wept, she bowed herself into the sepulcher,

12 [c]And saw two Angels in [d]white, sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

13 And they said unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She said unto them, They have taken away [e]my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

14 [f]When she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She supposing that he had been the gardener, said unto him, Sir, if thou hast borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and said unto him, Rabboni, which is to say, Master.

17 [g]Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not: for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my [h]brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto [i]my Father, and to your Father, and to my God, and your God.

18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

19 (C)[j]The same day then at night, which was the first day of the week, and when the [k]doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and said to them, Peace be unto you.

20 And when he had so said, he showed unto them his hands, and his side. Then were the disciples glad when they had seen the Lord.

21 (D)Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father sent me, so send I you.

22 And when he had said that, he breathed on them, and said unto them, Receive the holy Ghost.

23 [l]Whosoever’s sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them: and whosoever’s sins ye retain, they are retained.

24 [m]But Thomas one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord: but he said unto them, Except I see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put mine hand into his side, I will not believe it.

26 ¶ And eight days after, again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Then came Jesus, when the doors were shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

27 After said he to Thomas, Put thy finger here, and see mine hands, and put forth thine hand, and put it into my side, and be not faithless, but faithful.

28 Then Thomas answered, and said unto him, Thou art my Lord, and my God.

29 [n]Jesus said unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou believest: blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed.

30 (E)[o]And many other signs also did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book.

31 But these things are written that ye might believe, that Jesus is that Christ that Son of God, and that in believing ye might have life through his Name.

Proverbs 17

17 Better is a dry morsel, if peace be with it, than an house full of [a]sacrifices with strife.

A discrete servant shall have rule over a lewd son, and he shall divide the [b]heritage among the brethren.

As is the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold, so the Lord trieth the hearts.

The wicked giveth heed to false lips, and a liar hearkeneth to the naughty tongue.

(A)He that mocketh the poor, reproacheth him that made him: and he that rejoiceth at destruction, shall not be unpunished.

Children’s children are the crown of the elders: and the glory of the children are their fathers.

[c]High talk becometh not a fool, much less a lying talk a prince.

A reward is as a stone pleasant in the eyes of them that have it: it prospereth, whithersoever it [d]turneth.

He that covereth a transgression, seeketh love: but he that repeateth a matter, separateth the [e]prince.

10 A reproof entereth more into him that hath understanding, than an hundred stripes into a fool.

11 A seditious person seeketh only evil, and a cruel [f]messenger shall be sent against him.

12 It is better for a man to meet a bear robbed of her whelps, than [g]a fool in his folly.

13 (B)He that rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

14 The beginning of strife is as one that openeth the waters: therefore, or the contention be meddled with, leave off.

15 (C)He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.

16 Wherefore is there a [h]price in the hand of the fool to get wisdom, and he hath none heart?

17 A friend loveth at all times; and a [i]brother is born for adversity.

18 A man destitute of understanding, [j]toucheth the hand, and becometh surety for his neighbor.

19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his [k]gate, seeketh destruction.

20 The froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a naughty tongue, shall fall into evil.

21 He that begetteth a fool, getteth himself sorrow, and the father of a fool can have no joy.

22 (D)A joyful heart causeth good health: but a sorrowful mind drieth the bones.

23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the [l]bosom to wrest the ways of judgment.

24 (E)Wisdom is in the face of him that hath understanding: but the eyes of a fool are in the [m]corners of the world.

25 A foolish son is a grief unto his father, and a (F)heaviness to her that bare him.

26 Surely it is not good to condemn the just, nor that the princes should smite such [n]for equity.

27 He that hath knowledge, spareth his words, and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

28 Even a fool, (when he holdeth his peace) is counted wise, and he that stoppeth his lips, prudent.

Philippians 4

1 From particular exhortations, 4 he cometh to general. 10 He saith that he took such joy in their readiness to liberality, 12 that he will patiently bear the want.

Therefore, [a]my brethren, beloved and longed for, my joy and my [b]crown, so continue in the [c]Lord, ye beloved.

[d]I pray Euodia, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of one accord in the Lord.

Yea, and I beseech thee, faithful yokefellow, help those women, which labored with me in the Gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow laborers, whose names are in the (A)[e]book of life.

[f]Rejoice in the [g]Lord always, again I say, rejoice.

[h]Let your [i]patient mind be known unto all men. [j]The Lord is at hand.

[k]Be nothing careful, but in all things let your requests be showed unto God in prayer and supplication with [l]giving of thanks.

And the [m]peace of God which passeth all understanding, shall preserve your [n]hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

[o]Furthermore, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [p]are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are worthy love, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, or if there be any praise, think on these things.

Which ye have both learned and received, and heard, and seen in me: those things do, and the God of peace shall be with you.

10 [q]Now I rejoice also in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care for me springeth afresh, wherein notwithstanding ye were careful, but ye lacked opportunity.

11 I speak not because of [r]want: for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

12 And I can be [s]abased, and I can abound: everywhere in all things I am [t]instructed, both to be full, and to be hungry, and to abound, and to have want.

13 I am able to do all things through the help of Christ, which strengtheneth me.

14 Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate to mine affliction.

15 [u]And ye Philippians know also that in the [v]beginning of the Gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no Church communicated with me, concerning the matter of giving and receiving, but ye only.

16 For even when I was in Thessalonica, ye sent once, and afterward again for my necessity.

17 [w]Not that I desire a gift: but I desire the fruit which may further your reckoning.

18 Now I have received all, and have plenty: I was even filled, after that I had received of Epaphroditus that which came from you, an [x]odor that smelleth sweet, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasant to God.

19 And my God shall fulfill all your necessities through his riches with glory in Jesus Christ.

20 Unto God even our Father be praise for evermore, Amen.

21 Salute all the Saints in Christ Jesus. The brethren, which are with me, greet you.

22 All the Saints salute you, and most of all they which are of [y]Caesar’s household.

23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all, Amen.
