M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
32 2 The request of the Reubenites and Gadites, 16 and their promise unto Moses. 20 Moses granteth their request. 33 The Gadites, Reubenites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, conquer and build cities on this side Jordan.
1 Now the children of [a]Reuben, and the children of Gad had an exceeding great multitude of cattle: and they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of [b]Gilead, that it was an apt place for cattle.
2 Then the children of Gad, and the children of Reuben came, and spake unto Moses and to Eleazar the Priest, and unto the Princes of the Congregation, saying,
3 The land of Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,
4 Which country the Lord smote before the Congregation of Israel; is a land meet for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:
5 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.
6 And Moses said unto the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and ye tarry here?
7 Wherefore now [c]discourage you the heart of the children of Israel to go over into the land, which the Lord hath given them?
8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to see the land.
9 For (A)when they went up even unto the [d]river of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they would not go into the land, which the Lord had given them.
10 And the Lord’s wrath was kindled the same day, and he did swear, saying,
11 [e]None of the men that came out of Egypt, (B)from twenty years old and above, shall see the land for the which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, because they have not [f]wholly followed me:
12 Except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have constantly followed the Lord.
13 And the Lord was very angry with Israel, and made [them] wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done [g]evil in the sight of the Lord, was consumed.
14 And behold, ye are risen up in your father’s stead as an increase of sinful men still to augment the fierce wrath of the Lord toward Israel.
15 For if ye turn away from following him, he will yet again leave the people in the wilderness, and [h]ye shall destroy all this folk.
16 And they went near to him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our sheep, and for our cattle, and cities for our children.
17 But we ourselves will be ready armed to go before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their [i]place: but our children shall dwell in the defensed cities, because of the inhabitants of the land.
18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited, every man his inheritance.
19 Neither will we inherit with them beyond Jordan and on that side, because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan Eastward.
20 ¶ (C)And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, and go [j]armed before the Lord to war:
21 And will go every one of you in harness over Jordan before the Lord, until he have cast out his [k]enemies from his sight:
22 And until the land be subdued before the Lord, then ye shall return and be innocent toward the Lord, and toward Israel: and this land shall be your possession [l]before the Lord.
23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord, and be sure, that your sin [m]will find you out.
24 Build you then cities for your children, and folds for your sheep, and do that ye have spoken.
25 Then the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth:
26 Our children, our wives, our sheep, and all our cattle shall remain there in the cities of Gilead,
27 But (D)thy servants will go every one armed to war before the Lord for to fight, as my lord saith.
28 So concerning them, Moses [n]commanded Eleazar the Priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel.
29 And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will go with you over Jordan, all armed to fight before the Lord, then when the land is subdued before you, ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:
30 But if they will not go over with you armed, then they shall have their possessions among you in the land of Canaan.
31 And the children of Gad, and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the [o]Lord hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.
32 We will go armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan: that the possession of our inheritance may be to us on this side Jordan.
33 (E)So Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the [p]Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land with the cities thereof and coasts, even the cities of the country round about.
34 ¶ Then the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,
35 And Atroth, Shophan, and Jazer, and Jogbehah,
36 And Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran, defensed cities: also sheepfolds.
37 And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,
38 And Nebo, and Baal Meon, and turned their names, and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they built.
39 And the children (F)of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and put out the Amorites that dwelt therein.
40 Then Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh, and he dwelt therein.
41 (G)And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them [q]Havoth Jair.
42 Also Nobah went and took Kenath, with the villages thereof, and called it Nobah after his own name.
77 1 The Prophet in the Name of the Church rehearseth the greatness of his affliction, and his grievous temptations, 6 Whereby he was driven to this end to consider his former conversation, 11 and the continual course of God’s works in the preservation of his servants, and so he confirmeth his faith against these temptations.
For the excellent Musician (A)Jeduthun. A Psalm committed to Asaph.
1 My [a]voice came to God, when I cried: my voice came to God; and he heard me.
2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: [b]my sore ran and ceased not in the night: my soul refused comfort.
3 I did think upon God, and was [c]troubled: I prayed, and my spirit was full of anguish. Selah.
4 Thou keepest mine eyes [d]waking: I was astonied, and could not speak.
5 Then I considered the days of old: and the years of ancient time.
6 I called to remembrance my [e]song in the night: I communed with mine own heart, and my spirit searched [f]diligently.
7 Will the Lord absent himself forever? and will he show no more favor?
8 Is his [g]mercy clean gone forever? doth his promise fail forevermore?
9 Hath God forgotten to be merciful? hath he shut up his tender mercies in displeasure? Selah.
10 And I said, This is my [h]death: yet I remembered the years of the right hand of the most High.
11 I remembered the works of the Lord: certainly I remembered thy wonders of old.
12 I did also meditate all thy works, and did devise of thine acts, saying,
13 Thy way, O God, is [i]in the Sanctuary: who is so great a [j]God, as our God!
14 Thou art the God that doest wonders; thou hast declared thy power among the people.
15 Thou hast redeemed thy people with thine arm, even the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
16 The [k]waters saw thee, O God: the waters saw thee, and were afraid: yea, the depths trembled.
17 The clouds poured out water: the heavens gave a [l]sound: yea, thine arrows went abroad.
18 The voice of thy thunder was round about; the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.
19 Thy way is in the sea, and thy paths in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not [m]known.
20 Thou didst lead thy people like sheep by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
24 1 A prophecy of the curse of God for the sins of the people. 13 A remnant reserved shall praise the Lord.
1 Behold, the Lord maketh the [a]earth empty, and he maketh it waste: he turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
2 And there shall be like people, like [b]Priest, and like servant, like master, like maid, like mistress, like buyer, like seller, like lender, like borrower, like giver, like taker to usury.
3 The earth shall be clean emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the Lord hath spoken this word.
4 The earth lamenteth and fadeth away, the world is feebled and decayed: the proud people of the earth are weakened.
5 The earth [c]also deceiveth, because of the inhabitants thereof: for they transgressed the laws: they changed the ordinances, and brake the everlasting Covenant.
6 Therefore hath the [d]curse devoured the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are desolate. Wherefore the inhabitants of the land are [e]burned up, and few men are left.
7 The wine faileth, the vine hath no might: all that were of merry heart, do mourn.
8 The mirth of tabrets ceaseth: the noise of them that rejoice, endeth: the joy of the harp ceaseth.
9 They shall not drink wine with mirth: strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.
10 The city of [f]vanity is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.
11 There is a crying for wine in the streets: all joy is darkened: the [g]mirth of the world is gone away.
12 In the cities is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.
13 ¶ Surely thus shall it be in the midst of the earth, among the people, [h]as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the grapes when the vintage is ended.
14 They shall lift up their voice: they shall shout for the magnificence of the Lord: they shall rejoice from [i]the sea.
15 Wherefore praise ye the Lord in the valleys, even the Name of the Lord God of Israel, in the isles of the sea.
16 From the uttermost part of the earth we have heard praises, even glory to the [j]just, and I said, [k]My leanness, my leanness, woe is me: the transgressors have offended: yea, the transgressors have grievously offended.
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And he that fleeth from the noise of the fear, shall fall into the pit: and he that cometh up out of the pit, shall be taken in the snare: for the [l]windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down: the earth is clean dissolved: the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunken man, and shall be removed like a tent, and the iniquity thereof shall be heavy upon it: so that it shall fall, and rise no more.
21 ¶ And in that day shall the Lord [m]visit the host above that is on high, even the kings of the world that are upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together as the prisoners in the pit: and they shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be [n]visited.
23 [o]Then the moon shall be abashed, and the sun ashamed, when the Lord of hosts shall reign in mount Zion and in Jerusalem: and glory shall be before his ancient men.
2 1 He declareth that Christ is our mediator and advocate, 3 and showeth that the knowledge of God consisteth in holiness of life, 12 which appertaineth to all sorts, 14 that depend on Christ alone: 15 Then having exhorteth them to contemn the world, 18 he giveth warning that Antichrists be avoided, 24 and that the known truth be stood unto.
1 My [a]little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not: and if any man sin, we have an [b]Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Just.
2 And he is the [c]reconciliation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the [d]whole world.
3 [e]And hereby we are sure that we [f]know him, [g]if we keep his commandments.
4 [h]He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 [i]But he that keepeth his word, in him is the [j]love of God perfect indeed: hereby we know that we are in [k]him.
6 [l]He that saith he remaineth in him, ought even so to walk as he hath walked.
7 [m]Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment, which ye have had from the beginning: this old commandment is that word, which ye have heard from the beginning.
8 [n]Again, a new commandment I write unto you, that [o]which is true in him: and also in you: for the darkness is past, and that true light now shineth.
9 [p]He that saith that he is in that light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness, until this time.
10 (A)He that loveth his brother, abideth in that light, and there is no occasion of evil in him.
11 But he that hateth his brother, is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12 [q]Little children, [r]I write unto you, because your sins are forgiven you for his [s]Name’s sake.
13 [t]I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. [u]I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome that wicked one. [v]I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
14 [w]I have written unto you fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome that wicked one.
15 [x]Love not this [y]world, neither the things that are in this world. If any man love this world, the [z]love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in this world, (as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life) is not of the Father, but is of this world.
17 [aa]And this world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that fulfilleth the will of God, abideth ever.
18 [ab][ac]Little children, [ad]it is the last time, [ae]and as ye have heard that Antichrist shall come, even now there are many Antichrists: whereby we know that it is the last time.
19 [af]They went out from us, but they were not of us: for if they had been of us, [ag]they should have continued with us. [ah]But this cometh to pass, that it might appear, that they are not all of us.
20 [ai]But ye have an [aj]ointment from that [ak]Holy one, and know all things.
21 [al]I have not written unto you, because ye know not the truth: but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 [am]Who is a liar, but he that denieth that Jesus is [an]that Christ? the same is that Antichrist that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 [ao]Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father.
24 [ap]Let therefore abide in you that same which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning, shall remain in you, ye shall also continue in the Son, and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even that eternal life.
26 [aq]These things have I written unto you, concerning them that deceive you.
27 But that [ar]anointing which ye received of him, dwelleth in you: and ye [as]need not that any man teach you: but as the same [at]anointing teacheth you of all things, and it is true and is not lying, and as it taught you, ye shall abide in him.
28 [au]And now, little children, abide in him, that when he shall appear, we may be bold, and not be ashamed before him, at his coming.
29 [av]If ye know that he is righteous, know ye that he which doeth righteously, is born of him.
