M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
10 2 Nadab and Abihu are burnt. 6 Israel mourneth for them. 9 The Priests are forbidden wine.
1 But (A)Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censor, and put fire therein, and put incense thereupon, and offered [a]strange fire before the Lord, which he had not commanded them.
2 Therefore a fire went out from the Lord, and devoured them: so they died before the Lord.
3 Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the Lord spake, saying, I will be [b]sanctified in them that come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified: but Aaron held his peace.
4 And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan the sons of Uzziel, the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your [c]brethren from before the Sanctuary out of the host.
5 Then they went, and carried them in their coats out of the host, as Moses had commanded.
6 After, Moses said unto Aaron and unto Eleazar, and Ithamar his sons, [d]Uncover not your heads, neither rent your clothes, lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, all the house of Israel bewail the burning which the Lord hath [e]kindled.
7 And go not ye out from the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation lest ye die: for the anointing oil of the Lord is upon you: and they did according to Moses’ commandment.
8 ¶ And the Lord spake unto Aaron, saying,
9 Thou shalt not drink wine nor [f]strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye come into the Tabernacle of the Congregation, lest ye die: this is an ordinance forever throughout your generations,
10 That ye may put difference between the holy and the unholy, and between the clean and the unclean,
11 And that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the Lord hath commanded them by the [g]hand of Moses.
12 ¶ Then Moses said unto Aaron and unto Eleazar and to Ithamar his sons that were left, Take the meat offering that remaineth of the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and eat it without leaven beside the altar: for it is most holy:
13 And ye shall eat it in the holy place, because it is thy duty and thy son’s duty of the offerings of the Lord made by fire: for so I am commanded.
14 Also the (B)shaken breast and the [heave] shoulder shall ye eat in a [h]clean place: thou, and thy sons, and thy [i]daughters with thee: for they are given as thy [j]duty and thy son’s duty, of the peace offerings of the children of Israel.
15 The heave shoulder, and the shaken breast shall they bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat, to shake it to and fro before the Lord, and it shall be thine and thy sons with thee by a law forever, as the Lord hath commanded.
16 ¶ And Moses sought the goat that was offered for sin, and lo, it was burnt: therefore he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar the sons of Aaron, which were [k]left alive, saying,
17 Wherefore have ye not eaten the sin offering in the holy place, seeing it is most Holy? and God hath given it you, to bear the iniquity of the Congregation, to make an atonement for them before the Lord.
18 Behold, the blood of it was not brought within the holy place: ye should have eaten it in the holy place, (C)as I commanded.
19 And Aaron said unto Moses, Behold, this day [l]have they offered their sin offering, and their burnt offering before the Lord, and such things as thou knowest are come unto me: If I had eaten the sin offering today, should it have been accepted in the sight of the Lord?
20 So when Moses heard it, he was [m]content.
11 1 This Psalm containeth two parts. In the first David showeth how hard assaults of temptations he sustained, and in how great anguish of mind he was, when Saul did persecute him. 4 Then next he rejoiceth that God sent him succor in his necessity, declaring his justice as well in governing the good, and the wicked men, as the whole world.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.
1 In the Lord put I my trust; how say ye then to my soul, [a]Flee to your mountain as a bird?
2 For lo, the wicked bend their bow, and make ready their arrows upon the string, that they may secretly shoot at them which are upright in heart.
3 For the [b]foundations are cast down, what hath the [c]righteous done?
4 The Lord is in his holy palace; the Lord’s throne is in the heaven; his eyes [d]will consider; his eyelids will try the children of men.
5 The Lord will try the righteous; but the wicked, and him that loveth iniquity, doth his soul hate.
6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, [e]fire, and brimstone, and stormy tempest; this is the [f]portion of their cup.
7 For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness: his countenance doth behold the just.
12 1 The Prophet lamenting the miserable estate of the people, and the decay of all good order, desireth God speedily to send succor to his children. 7 Then comforting himself, and others with the assurance of God’s help, he commendeth the constant verity that God observeth in keeping his promises.
To him that excelleth upon the eight tune. A Psalm of David.
1 Help Lord, for there is not [g]a godly man left: for the faithful are failed from among the children of men.
2 They speak deceitfully every one with his neighbor, [h]flattering with their lips, and speak with a double heart.
3 The Lord cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
4 Which have said, [i]With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own; who is Lord over us?
5 [j]Now for the oppression of the needy, and for the sighs of the poor, I will up, saith the Lord, and will [k]set at liberty him, whom the wicked hath [snared].
6 The words of the Lord are pure words, as the silver, tried in a furnace of earth, fined sevenfold.
7 Thou wilt keep [l]them, O Lord; thou wilt preserve him from this generation forever.
8 The wicked walk on every side; when they are exalted, [m]it is a shame for the sons of men.
25 1 These are also parables of Solomon, which the [a]men of Hezekiah King of Judah [b]copied out.
2 The glory of God is to [c]conceal a thing secret: but the [d]King’s honor is to search out a thing.
3 The heavens in height, and the earth in deepness: and the [e]king’s heart can no man search out.
4 Take the [f]dross from the silver, and there shall proceed a vessel for the finer.
5 Take [g]away the wicked from the King, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 Boast not thyself before the King, and stand not in the place of great men.
7 (A)For it is better, that it be said unto thee, Come up hither, than thou to be put lower in the presence of the Prince whom thine eyes have seen.
8 Go not forth hastily to strife, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbor hath put thee to shame.
9 Debate thy matter with thy neighbor, and discover not the secret to another,
10 Lest he that heareth it, put thee to shame, and thine infamy do not [h]cease.
11 A word spoken in his place, is like apples of gold with pictures of silver.
12 He that reproveth the wise and the obedient ear, is as a golden earring, and an ornament of fine gold.
13 As the cold of the snow [i]in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
14 A man that boasteth of false liberality, is like [j]clouds and wind without rain.
15 A Prince is pacified by staying of [k]anger, and a soft tongue breaketh the [l]bones.
16 If thou have found honey, eat that is [m]sufficient for thee, lest thou be overfull, and vomit it.
17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbor’s house, lest he be weary of thee, and hate thee.
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbor, is like an hammer and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble, is like a broken tooth and a sliding foot.
20 He that taketh away the garment in the cold season, is like vinegar poured upon [n][o]nitre, or like him that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
21 (B)If he that hateth thee be hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 For thou shalt lay [p]coals upon his head, and the Lord shall recompense thee.
23 As the Northwind driveth away the rain, so doth an angry countenance the slandering tongue.
24 (C)It is better to dwell in a corner of the house top, than with a contentious woman in a wide house.
25 As are the cold waters to a weary soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked, is like a troubled well and a corrupt spring.
27 It is not good to eat much honey: so to search their own glory, is not glory.
28 A man that refraineth not his appetite, is like a city which is [q]broken down and without walls.
4 1 He exhorteth them 3 to holiness, 9 and brotherly love. 13 He forbiddeth them to sorrow after to manner of infidels. 15 He setteth out the history of our resurrection.
1 And [a]furthermore we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that ye [b]increase more and more, as ye have received of us, how ye ought to walk, and to please God.
2 For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
3 (A)[c]For this is the will of God even your [d]sanctification, and that ye should abstain from fornication,
4 [e]That everyone of you should know, how to possess his vessel in holiness and honor,
5 [f]And not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
6 (B)[g]That no man oppress or defraud his brother in any matter: for the Lord is avenger of all such things, as we also have told you beforetime, and testified.
7 (C)For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
8 He therefore that [h]despiseth these things, despiseth not man, but God who hath even given you his holy Spirit.
9 [i]But as touching brotherly love, ye need not that I write unto you: (D)for ye are taught of God to love one another.
10 Yea, and that thing verily ye do unto all the brethren, which are throughout all Macedonia: but we beseech you brethren, that ye increase more and more,
11 [j]And that ye study to be quiet, and to meddle with your own business, [k]and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you.
12 That ye may behave yourselves honestly toward them that are without, and that nothing be lacking unto you.
13 ¶ [l]I would not brethren, have you ignorant [m]concerning them [n]which are asleep, that ye sorrow not even as others which have no hope.
14 [o]For if we believe that Jesus is dead, and is risen, even so them which sleep in [p]Jesus, will God [q]bring with him.
15 [r]For this say we unto you by the [s]word of the Lord, that [t]we which live, and are remaining in the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them which sleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a [u]shout, and with the voice of the Archangel, and (E)with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then shall we which live and remain, be [v]caught up with them also in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore, comfort yourselves one another with these words.
