M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
Saul Among the Prophets
10 Then (A)Samuel took the flask of oil, poured it on his head, (B)kissed him, and said, “Has not (C)Yahweh anointed you a ruler over (D)His inheritance? 2 When you go from me today, then you will find two men close to (E)Rachel’s tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say to you, ‘(F)The donkeys which you went to search for have been found. Now behold, your father has [a]ceased to be concerned about the donkeys and is anxious for you, saying, “What shall I do about my son?”’ 3 Then you will go on further from there, and you will come as far as the [b](G)oak of Tabor, and there three men going up (H)to God at Bethel will meet you, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a jug of wine; 4 and they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread. And you will take them from their hand. 5 Afterward you will come to [c](I)the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is; and it shall be as soon as you have come there to the city, that you will meet (J)a group of prophets coming down from the high place with harp, tambourine, flute, and a lyre before them, and (K)they will be prophesying. 6 Then (L)the Spirit of Yahweh will [d]come upon you mightily, and (M)you shall prophesy with them and be changed into another man. 7 Now it will be when these signs come to you, (N)do for yourself whatever your hand finds to do, for (O)God is with you. 8 And (P)you shall go down before me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and (Q)sacrifice peace offerings. (R)You shall wait seven days until I come to you and make you know what you should do.”
9 Then it happened when he turned his back to leave Samuel, God (S)changed [e]his heart; and all those signs came about on that day. 10 (T)And they came to [f]the hill there, and behold, a group of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God [g]came upon him mightily, so that he prophesied among them. 11 Now it happened that all who knew him previously saw, and behold, he was prophesying with the prophets, so the people said to one another, “What has happened to the son of Kish? (U)Is Saul also among the prophets?” 12 And a man there answered and said, “Now, who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb: “(V)Is Saul also among the prophets?” 13 Then he finished prophesying and came to the high place.
14 Now (W)Saul’s uncle said to him and his young man, “Where did you go?” And he said, “(X)To look for the donkeys. And we saw that they were not anywhere, so we went to Samuel.” 15 And Saul’s uncle said, “Please tell me what Samuel said to you.” 16 So Saul said to his uncle, “(Y)He told us plainly that the donkeys had been found.” But he did not tell him about the matter of the kingdom which Samuel had said.
Saul the King
17 Then Samuel called the (Z)people together to Yahweh at Mizpah; 18 and he said to the sons of Israel, “(AA)Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘I brought Israel up from Egypt, and I delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all the kingdoms that were oppressing you.’ 19 But you (AB)have today rejected your God, who saves you from all your calamities and your distresses; yet you have [h]said, ‘No, but set a king over us!’ So now, (AC)take your stand before Yahweh by your tribes and by your clans.”
20 Thus Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot. 21 Then he brought the tribe of Benjamin near by its families, and the Matrite family was taken. And Saul the son of Kish was taken; but they looked for him, and he could not be found. 22 Therefore (AD)they inquired further of Yahweh, “Has the man come here yet?” So Yahweh said, “Behold, he is hiding himself by the baggage.” 23 So they ran and took him from there, and he stood among the people. And (AE)he was taller than any of the people from his shoulders upward. 24 And Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him (AF)whom Yahweh has chosen? Surely there is no one like him among all the people.” So all the people shouted and said, “[i](AG)Long live the king!”
25 Then Samuel spoke with the people about (AH)the legal judgments of the kingdom and wrote them in the book and (AI)placed it before Yahweh. And Samuel sent all the people away, each one to his house. 26 Saul also went (AJ)to his house at Gibeah; and the valiant men whose hearts God had touched went with him. 27 But certain [j](AK)vile men said, “How can this one save us?” And they despised him and (AL)did not bring him any present. But he kept silent.
The Spirit of God Dwells in You
8 Therefore there is now no (A)condemnation for those who are (B)in (C)Christ Jesus. 2 For (D)the law of the Spirit of life [a]in (E)Christ Jesus (F)has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For (G)what the Law could not do, [b](H)weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in (I)the likeness of [c]sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the (J)righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who (K)do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on (L)the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, (M)the things of the Spirit. 6 (N)For the mind set on the flesh is (O)death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is at (P)enmity toward God, for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are (Q)in the flesh are not able to please God.
9 However, you are not (R)in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God (S)dwells in you. But (T)if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. 10 (U)But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is [d]alive because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who (V)raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, (W)He who raised (X)Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies [e]through His Spirit who dwells in you.
12 So then, brothers, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— 13 for (Y)if you are living according to the flesh, you [f]must die, but if by the Spirit you are (Z)putting to death the (AA)practices of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are (AB)being led by the Spirit of God, these are (AC)sons of God. 15 For you (AD)have not received a spirit of slavery [g]leading to fear again, but you (AE)have received the Spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry out, “(AF)Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself (AG)testifies with our spirit that we are (AH)children of God, 17 and if children, also (AI)heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, (AJ)if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
Present Suffering and Future Glory
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (AK)are not worthy to be compared with the (AL)glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the (AM)anxious longing of the creation eagerly waits for (AN)the revealing of the (AO)sons of God. 20 For the creation (AP)was subjected to (AQ)futility, not willingly, but (AR)because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21 [h]that (AS)the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation (AT)groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23 (AU)And not only this, but also we ourselves, having (AV)the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves (AW)groan within ourselves, (AX)eagerly waiting for our adoption as sons, (AY)the redemption of our body. 24 For (AZ)in hope we were saved, but (BA)hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what he already sees? 25 But (BB)if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we eagerly wait for it.
26 And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness, for (BC)we do not know how to pray as we should, but (BD)the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and (BE)He who searches the hearts knows what (BF)the mind of the Spirit is, because He (BG)intercedes for the [i]saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that for those who love God [j](BH)all things work together for good, for those who are (BI)called according to His purpose. 29 Because those whom He (BJ)foreknew, He also (BK)predestined to become (BL)conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the (BM)firstborn among many brothers; 30 and those whom He (BN)predestined, He also (BO)called; and those whom He called, He also (BP)justified; and those whom He justified, He also (BQ)glorified.
God Is for Us
31 (BR)What then shall we say to these things? (BS)If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who indeed (BT)did not spare His own Son, but (BU)delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against (BV)God’s elect? (BW)God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who (BX)condemns? Christ Jesus is He who (BY)died, yes, rather who was [k](BZ)raised, who is (CA)at the right hand of God, who also (CB)intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from (CC)the love of [l]Christ? Will (CD)affliction, or turmoil, or (CE)persecution, or (CF)famine, or (CG)nakedness, or (CH)peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written,
“(CI)For Your sake we are being put to death all day long;
We were counted as sheep for the slaughter.”
37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly (CJ)conquer through (CK)Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither (CL)death, nor life, nor (CM)angels, nor rulers, nor (CN)things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from (CO)the love of God, which is (CP)in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Word Against Philistia
47 That which came as the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the (A)Philistines, before Pharaoh struck down (B)Gaza. 2 Thus says Yahweh:
“Behold, waters are going to rise from (C)the north
And become an overflowing torrent,
And (D)overflow the land as well as its fullness,
The city and those who inhabit it;
And the men will (E)cry out,
And every inhabitant of the land will wail.
3 Because of the noise of the [a](F)galloping hoofs of his [b]valiant steeds,
The quaking of his chariots, and the tumult of his wheels,
The fathers have not turned back for their children,
Because of the limpness of their hands,
4 On account of the day that is coming
To (G)destroy all the Philistines,
To cut off from (H)Tyre and Sidon
Every ally that is left;
For Yahweh is going to destroy the Philistines,
The remnant of the coastland of (I)Caphtor.
5 (J)Baldness has come upon Gaza;
(K)Ashkelon has been ruined.
O remnant of their valley,
How long will you (L)gash yourself?
6 Ah, (M)sword of Yahweh,
How long will you not be quiet?
Withdraw into your sheath;
[c]Be at rest and stay still.
7 How can [d]it be quiet?
Yahweh has (N)given it a command;
Against Ashkelon and against the seacoast—
There He has (O)assigned it.”
Yahweh Is My Shepherd
A Psalm of David.
23 Yahweh is my (A)shepherd,
I [a]shall (B)not want.
2 He makes me lie down in (C)green pastures;
He (D)leads me beside [b](E)quiet waters.
3 He (F)restores my soul;
He (G)guides me in the [c](H)paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Even though I (I)walk through the [d]valley of the shadow of death,
I (J)fear no [e]evil, for (K)You are with me;
Your (L)rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You (M)prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You [f]have (N)anointed my head with oil;
My (O)cup overflows.
6 [g]Surely (P)goodness and lovingkindness will [h]pursue me all the days of my life,
And I will [i](Q)dwell in the house of Yahweh [j]forever.
The King of Glory
Of David. A Psalm.
24 The (R)earth is Yahweh’s, as well as its fullness,
The (S)world, and those who dwell in it.
2 For He has (T)founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the rivers.
3 Who may (U)ascend into the (V)mountain of Yahweh?
And who may rise in His holy (W)place?
4 He who has (X)innocent hands and a (Y)pure heart,
Who has not (Z)lifted up his soul [k]to worthlessness
And has not (AA)sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall lift up a (AB)blessing from Yahweh
And [l](AC)righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 [m]This is the generation of those who (AD)seek Him,
Who seek Your face—pay heed O Jacob. [n]Selah.
7 (AE)Lift up your heads, O gates,
And be lifted up, O [o]ancient doors,
That the King of (AF)glory may come in!
8 Who is this King of glory?
Yahweh (AG)strong and mighty,
Yahweh (AH)mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O gates,
And lift yourselves up, O [p]ancient doors,
That the King of (AI)glory may come in!
10 Who is He, this King of glory?
Yahweh of (AJ)hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah.
