4 5 Baanah and Rechab slay Ishbosheth the son of Saul. 12 David commandeth them to be slain.
1 And when Saul’s [a]son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, then his hands were [b]feeble, and all Israel was afraid,
2 And Saul’s son had two men that were captains of bands: the one called Baanah, and the other called Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite of the children of Benjamin: (for [c]Beeroth was reckoned to Benjamin,
3 Because the Beerothites fled to [d]Gittaim, and sojourned there, unto this day.)
4 And Jonathan Saul’s son had a son that was lame on his feet: he was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Israel: then his nurse took him, and fled away. And as she made haste to flee, the child fell, and began to halt, and his name was Mephibosheth.
5 And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah went and came in the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth (who slept on a bed at noon.)
6 And behold, Rechab and Baanah his brother came into the midst of the house, as they [e]would have wheat, and they [f]smote him under the fifth rib, and fled.
7 For when they came into the house, he slept on his bed in his bed chamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and got them away through the [g]plain all the night.
8 And they brought the head of Ishbosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ishbosheth Saul’s son thine enemy, who sought after thy life: and the Lord hath avenged my Lord the King this day of Saul, and of his seed.
9 Then David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the Lord liveth, who hath delivered my soul out of all adversity,
10 When one (A)told me, and said that Saul was dead, (thinking to have brought good tidings) I took him and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:
11 How [h]much more when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house, and upon his bed? shall I not now therefore require his blood at your hand, and take you from the earth?
12 Then David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron: but they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the sepulcher of (B)Abner in Hebron.
5 3 David is made King over all Israel. 7 He taketh the fort of Zion. 19 He asketh counsel of the Lord. 23 And overcometh the Philistines twice.
1 Then (C)came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and said thus, Behold, we are thy [i]bones and thy flesh.
2 And in time past when Saul was our King, thou leddest Israel in and out: and the Lord hath said to thee, (D)Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.
3 So all the Elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron: and King David made a covenant with them in Hebron [j]before the Lord, and they anointed David King over Israel.
4 ¶ David was thirty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned forty years.
5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah (E)seven years, and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.
6 ¶ The King also and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: who spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the [k]blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking that David could not come thither:
7 But David took the fort of Zion: this is the city of David.
8 Now David had said the same day, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites, and getteth up to the gutters and smiteth the lame and blind, which David’s soul hateth, I will prefer him: (F)therefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not [l]come into that house.
9 So David dwelt in that fort, and called it the city of David, and David built round about it, from [m]Millo, and inward.
10 And David prospered and grew: for the Lord God of hosts was with him.
11 ¶ Hiram also king of [n]Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons for walls: and they built David an house.
12 Then David knew that the Lord had established him King over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.
13 And David took him more (G)concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron, and more sons and daughters were born to David.
14 (H)And these be the names of the sons, that were born unto him in Jerusalem, Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,
15 And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
16 And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphelet.
17 ¶ (I)But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David: and when David heard, he went down to a fort.
18 But the Philistines came, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
19 Then David [o]asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hands? And the Lord answered David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hands.
20 ¶ (J)Then David came to Baal Perazim, and smote them there, and said, The Lord hath divided mine enemies asunder before me, as waters be divided asunder: therefore he called the name of that place, [p]Baal Perazim.
21 And there they left their images, and David and his men (K)burnt them.
22 Again the Philistines came up, and spread themselves in the valley of [q]Rephaim.
23 And when David asked counsel of the Lord, he answered, Thou shalt not go up, but turn about behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
24 And when thou hearest the noise of one going in the tops of the mulberry trees, then remove: for then shall the Lord go out before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
25 Then David did so as the Lord had commanded him, and smote the Philistines from Geba, until thou come to [r]Gezer.

1 Moreover (A)[a]brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which ye have also received, and wherein ye [b]continue,
2 And whereby ye are saved, if ye keep in memory, after what manner I preached it unto you, [c]except ye have believed in vain.
3 For first of all, I delivered unto you that which I received, how that Christ died for our sins, according to the (B)Scriptures,
4 And that he was buried, and that he arose the third day, according to the (C)Scriptures,
5 (D)And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the [d]twelve.
6 After that, he was seen of more than five hundred brethren at [e]once: whereof many remain unto this present, and some also are asleep.
7 After that, he was seen of James: then of all the Apostles.
8 (E)[f]And last of all he was seen also of me, as of one born out of due time.
9 (F)For I am the least of the Apostles, which am not meet to be called an Apostle, because I persecuted the Church of God.
10 (G)But by the grace of God I am that I am: and his grace which is in me, was not in vain: but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which is with me.
11 Wherefore, whether it were I, or they, so we preach, and so have ye believed.
12 ¶ [g]Now if it be preached, that Christ is risen from the dead, how say some among you, that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 [h]For if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
14 [i]And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
15 And we are found also false witnesses of God: for we have testified of God, that he hath raised up Christ: whom he hath not raised up, if so be the dead be not raised.
16 [j]For if the dead be not raised, then is Christ not raised.
17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain: [k]ye are [l]yet in your sins.
18 [m]And so they which are asleep in Christ, are perished.
19 [n]If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most miserable.
20 [o]But now is Christ risen from the dead, [p]and was made the (H)[q]firstfruits of them that slept.
21 [r]For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be [s]made alive.
23 [t]But every man in his (I)own order: the firstfruits is Christ, afterward, they that are of Christ, at his coming shall rise again.
24 [u]Then shall be the [v]end, when he hath delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he hath put down [w]all rule, and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign (J)till he hath put all his enemies [x]under his feet.
26 The [y]last enemy that shall be destroyed, is death.
27 (K)For he hath put down all things under his feet. (And when he saith that all things are subdued to him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put down all things under him.)
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, [z]then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him, that did subdue all things under him, that [aa]God may be all in all.
29 [ab]Else what shall they do which are baptized [ac]for dead? if the dead rise not at all, why are they then baptized for dead?
30 [ad]Why are we also in jeopardy every hour?
31 By your [ae]rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
32 [af]If I have fought with beasts at Ephesus [ag]after the manner of men, what advantageth it me, if the dead be not raised up? (L)[ah]let us [ai]eat and drink: for tomorrow we shall die.
33 [aj]Be not deceived: evil speakings corrupt good manners.
34 Awake to live righteously, and sin not: for some have not the knowledge of God, I speak this to your shame.
35 [ak]But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body come they forth?
36 [al]O fool, that which thou sowest, is not quickened, except it die.
37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare corn as it falleth, of wheat, or of some other.
38 [am]But God giveth it a body at his pleasure, even to every seed his own body.
39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another of fishes, and another of birds:
40 There are also heavenly bodies, and earthly bodies: but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another.
41 There is another glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
42 [an]So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is [ao]sown in corruption, and is raised in incorruption.
43 It is sown in [ap]dishonor, and is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness, and is raised in [aq]power.
44 [ar]It is sown a natural body, and is raised a spiritual body: there is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
45 [as]As it is also written, The [at]first man (M)Adam was made a living soul: and the last Adam was made a [au]quickening spirit.
46 [av]Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual: but that which is natural, and afterward that which is spiritual.
47 The first man is of the earth, [aw]earthly: the second man is the Lord from [ax]heaven.
48 [ay]As is the earthly, such are they that are earthly: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
49 And as we have born the [az]image of the earthly, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly.
50 [ba]This say I, brethren, that [bb]flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51 [bc]Behold, I show you a [bd]secret thing, We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In [be]a moment, in the twinkling of an eye at the last (N)trumpet: for the trumpet shall blow, and the dead shall be raised up incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption: and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible hath put on incorruption, and this mortal hath put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying, that is written, (O)Death is swallowed up into victory.
55 O death where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin: and the strength of sin is the Law.
57 (P)But thanks be unto God, which hath given us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 [bf]Therefore my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, abundant always in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the [bg]Lord.
13 2 The word of the Lord against false prophets, which teach the people the counsels of their own hearts.
1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of (A)Israel, that prophesy, and say thou unto them, that prophesy out of their [a]own hearts, Hear the word of the Lord.
3 Thus saith the Lord God, Woe unto the foolish Prophets that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing.
4 O Israel, thy Prophets are like the foxes [b]in the waste places.
5 [c]Ye have not risen up in the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel, to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord.
6 They have seen vanity, and lying divination, saying, The Lord saith it, and the Lord hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word of their prophecy.
7 Have ye not seen a vain vision? and have ye not spoken a lying divination? [d]ye say, The Lord saith it, albeit I have not spoken.
8 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Because ye have spoken vanity and have seen lies, therefore behold, I am against you, saith the Lord God,
9 And mine hand shall be upon the Prophets that see vanity, and divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the [e]writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.
10 And therefore, because they have deceived my people, saying, [f]Peace, and there was no peace: and one built up a [g]wall, and behold, the others daubed it with untempered mortar,
11 Say unto them which daub it with untempered mortar, that it shall fall: for there shall come a great shower, and I will send hailstones, which shall cause it to fall, and a stormy wind shall break it.
12 Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it?
13 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, I will cause a stormy wind to break forth in my wrath, and a great shower shall be in mine anger, and hailstones in mine indignation to consume it.
14 So I will destroy the wall that ye have daubed with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof, and ye shall know, that I am the Lord.
15 Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with [h]untempered mortar, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither the daubers thereof,
16 To wit, the Prophets of Israel, which prophesy upon Jerusalem, and see visions of peace for it, and there is no peace, saith the Lord God.
17 Likewise thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart: and prophesy thou against them, and say,
18 Thus saith the Lord God, Woe unto the women that sow [i]pillows under all armholes, and make veils upon the head of everyone that standeth up, to hunt souls: will ye hunt the souls of my people, and will ye give life to the souls that come unto you?
19 And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of [j]barley, and for pieces of bread to slay the souls of them that should not die, and [k]to give life to the souls that should not live, in lying to my people, that hear your lies?
20 Wherefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will have to do with your pillows, wherewith ye hunt the [l]souls to make them to flee, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them to flee.
21 Your veils also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hands to be hunted, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
22 Because with your lies ye have made the heart of the [m]righteous sad, whom I have not made sad, and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life,
23 Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
52 1 David describeth the arrogant tyranny of his adversary Doeg: who by false surmises cause Ahimelech with the rest of the Priests to be slain. 5 David prophesieth his destruction, 6 and encourageth the faithful to put their confidence in God, whose judgments are most sharp against his adversaries. 9 And finally, he rendereth thanks to God for his deliverance. In this Psalm is timely set forth the kingdom of Antichrist.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David to give instruction. When Doeg the Edomite came and showed Saul, and said to him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech.
1 Why boastest thou thyself in thy wickedness, O [a]man of power? the loving-kindness of God endureth daily.
2 Thy tongue imagineth [b]mischief, and is like a sharp razor, that cutteth deceitfully.
3 Thou dost love evil more than good, and lies more than to speak the [c]truth. Selah.
4 Thou lovest all words that may destroy: O deceitful tongue!
5 So shall God [d]destroy thee forever: he shall take thee and pluck thee out of thy tabernacle, and [e]root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
6 The [f]righteous also shall see it, [g]and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,
7 Behold the man that took not God for his strength, but trusteth unto the multitude of his riches, and put his strength [h]in his malice.
8 But I shall be like a [i]green olive tree in the house of God: for I trusted in the mercy of God forever and ever.
9 I will always praise thee, for that thou hast done [j]this, and I will [k]hope in thy name, because it is good before thy Saints.
53 1 He describeth the crooked nature. 4 The cruelty, 5 And punishment of the wicked, when they look not for it, 6 And desireth the deliverance of the godly, that they may rejoice together.
To him that excelleth on [l]Mahalath. A Psalm of David to give instruction.
1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is [m]no God, they have corrupted and done abominable wickedness, there is none that doeth good.
2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that would understand and [n]seek God.
3 (A)Everyone is gone back: they are altogether corrupt: there is none that doeth good, no not one.
4 Do not the [o]workers of iniquity know that they eat up my people as they eat bread? they call not upon God.
5 There they were afraid for fear, where no [p]fear was: for God hath scattered the [q]bones of him that besieged thee: thou hast put them to confusion, because God hath cast them off.
6 Oh give salvation unto Israel out of Zion: when God turneth the captivity of his people, then Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
54 1 David brought into great danger by reason of the Ziphites, 5 Calleth upon the Name of God to destroy his enemies, 6 Promising sacrifices and free offerings for so great deliverance.
To him that excelleth on Neginoth. A Psalm of David, to give instruction. When the Ziphims came and said unto Saul, (B)Is not David hid among us?
1 Save me, O God, [r]by thy Name, and by thy power judge me.
2 O God, hear my prayer: hearken unto the words of my mouth.
3 For [s]strangers are risen up against me, and [t]tyrants seek my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.
4 Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with [u]them that uphold my soul.
5 He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: Oh cut them off in thy [v]truth!
6 Then I will sacrifice [w]freely unto thee: I will praise thy Name, O Lord, because it is good.
7 For he hath delivered me out of all trouble, and mine eye hath [x]seen my desire upon mine enemies.
