15 And David made him houses in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent. ² Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them hath Jehovah chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him for ever. ³ And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of Jehovah unto its place, which he had prepared for it. ⁴ And David gathered together the sons of Aaron, and the Levites: ⁵ of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and his brethren a hundred and twenty; ⁶ of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred and twenty; ⁷ of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and his brethren a hundred and thirty; ⁸ of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred; ⁹ of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and his brethren fourscore; ¹⁰ of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and his brethren a hundred and twelve. ¹¹ And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab, ¹² and said unto them, Ye are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of Jehovah, the God of Israel, unto the place that I have prepared for it. ¹³ For because ye bare it not at the first, Jehovah our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not according to the ordinance. ¹⁴ So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of Jehovah, the God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of Jehovah.

¹⁶ And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren the singers, with instruments of music, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding aloud and lifting up the voice with joy. ¹⁷ So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah; ¹⁸ and with them their brethren of the second degree, Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, the doorkeepers. ¹⁹ So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed, with cymbals of brass to sound aloud; ²⁰ and Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries set to Alamoth; ²¹ and Mattithiah, and Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps set to the Sheminith, to lead. ²² And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was over ^[a]the song: he instructed about ^[b]the song, because he was skilful. ²³ And Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the ark. ²⁴ And Shebaniah, and Joshaphat, and Nethanel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, did blow the trumpets before the ark of God; and Obed-edom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.

²⁵ So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of the house of Obed-edom with joy. ²⁶ And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, that they sacrificed seven bullocks and seven rams. ²⁷ And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of ^[c]the song with the singers: and David had upon him an ephod of linen. ²⁸ Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud with psalteries and harps.

²⁹ And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of Jehovah came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart.

2 My brethren, ^[a]hold not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. ² For if there come into your ^[b]synagogue a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, and there come in also a poor man in vile clothing; ³ and ye have regard to him that weareth the fine clothing, and say, Sit thou here in a good place; and ye say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit under my footstool; ^4 [c]do ye not make distinctions ^[d]among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? ⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren; did not God choose them that are poor as to the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him? ⁶ But ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats? ⁷ Do not they blaspheme the honorable name ^[e]by which ye are called? ⁸ Howbeit if ye fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, ^[f]Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well: ⁹ but if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors. ¹⁰ For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is become guilty of all. ¹¹ For he that said, ^[g]Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, but killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law. ¹² So speak ye, and so do, as men that are to be judged by a law of liberty. ¹³ For judgment is without mercy to him that hath showed no mercy: mercy glorieth against judgment.

¹⁴ What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister be naked and in lack of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body; what doth it profit? ¹⁷ Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself. ^18 [h]Yea, a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith apart from thy works, and I by my works will show thee my faith. ¹⁹ Thou believest that ^[i]God is one; thou doest well: the demons also believe, and shudder. ²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is barren? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar? ^22 [j]Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect; ²³ and the scripture was fulfilled which saith, ^[k]And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; ^[l]and he was called the friend of God. ²⁴ Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith. ²⁵ And in like manner was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way? ²⁶ For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.

9 I saw the Lord standing ^[a]beside the altar: and he said, Smite the capitals, that the thresholds may shake; and break them in pieces on the head of all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: ^[b]there shall not one of them flee away, and there shall not one of them escape. ² Though they dig into Sheol, thence shall my hand take them; and though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down. ³ And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and it shall bite them. ⁴ And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.

⁵ For the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, is he that toucheth the land and it melteth, and all that dwell therein shall mourn; and it shall rise up wholly like the River, and shall sink again, like the River of Egypt; ⁶ it is he that buildeth his chambers in the heavens, and hath founded his vault upon the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth; Jehovah is his name.

⁷ Are ye not as the children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith Jehovah. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir? ⁸ Behold, the eyes of the Lord Jehovah are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; save that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith Jehovah. ⁹ For, lo, I will command, and I will ^[c]sift the house of Israel among all the nations, like as grain is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least kernel fall upon the earth. ¹⁰ All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who say, The evil shall not overtake nor meet us.

¹¹ In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old; ¹² that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the nations that ^[d]are called by my name, saith Jehovah that doeth this. ¹³ Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt. ¹⁴ And I will ^[e]bring back the captivity of my people Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. ¹⁵ And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them, saith Jehovah thy God.

4 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led in the Spirit in the wilderness ² during forty days, being tempted of the devil. And he did eat nothing in those days: and when they were completed, he hungered. ³ And the devil said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become ^[a]bread. ⁴ And Jesus answered unto him, It is written, ^[b]Man shall not live by bread alone. ⁵ And he led him up, and showed him all the kingdoms of ^[c]the world in a moment of time. ⁶ And the devil said unto him, To thee will I give all this authority, and the glory of them: for it hath been delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. ⁷ If thou therefore wilt ^[d]worship before me, it shall all be thine. ⁸ And Jesus answered and said unto him, It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. ⁹ And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the ^[e]pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: ¹⁰ for it is written,

¹¹ and,

¹² And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, ^[g]Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.

¹³ And when the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him ^[h]for a season.

¹⁴ And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and a fame went out concerning him through all the region round about. ¹⁵ And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and he entered, as his custom was, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read. ¹⁷ And there was delivered unto him ^[i]the book of the prophet Isaiah. And he opened the ^[j]book, and found the place where it was written,

²⁰ And he closed the ^[n]book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him. ²¹ And he began to say unto them, To-day hath this scripture been fulfilled in your ears. ²² And all bare him witness, and wondered at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth: and they said, Is not this Joseph’s son? ²³ And he said unto them, Doubtless ye will say unto me this parable, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in thine own country. ²⁴ And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is acceptable in his own country. ²⁵ But of a truth I say unto you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land; ²⁶ and unto none of them was Elijah sent, but only to ^[o]Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. ²⁷ And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian. ²⁸ And they were all filled with wrath in the synagogue, as they heard these things; ²⁹ and they rose up, and cast him forth out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might throw him down headlong. ³⁰ But he passing through the midst of them went his way.

³¹ And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the sabbath day: ³² and they were astonished at his teaching; for his word was with authority. ³³ And in the synagogue there was a man, that had a spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud voice, ^34 [p]Ah! what have we to do with thee, Jesus thou Nazarene? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. ³⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst, he came out of him, having done him no hurt. ³⁶ And amazement came upon all, and they spake together, one with another, saying, What is ^[q]this word? for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. ³⁷ And there went forth a rumor concerning him into every place of the region round about.

³⁸ And he rose up from the synagogue, and entered into the house of Simon. And Simon’s wife’s mother was holden with a great fever; and they besought him for her. ³⁹ And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she rose up and ministered unto them.

⁴⁰ And when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. ⁴¹ And demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, Thou art the Son of God. And rebuking them, he suffered them not to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

⁴² And when it was day, he came out and went into a desert place: and the multitudes sought after him, and came unto him, and would have stayed him, that he should not go from them. ⁴³ But he said unto them, I must preach ^[r]the good tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also: for therefore was I sent.

⁴⁴ And he was preaching in the synagogues of ^[s]Galilee.
