Book of Common Prayer
TZADDI
137 Righteous art thou, O Lord, and just are thy judgments.
138 Thou hast commanded [a]justice by thy testimonies and truth especially.
139 (A)My zeal hath even consumed me: because mine enemies have forgotten thy words.
140 Thy word is proved [b]most pure, and thy servant loveth it.
141 I am [c]small and despised: yet do I not forget thy precepts.
142 Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy Law is truth.
143 Trouble and anguish are come upon me: yet are the commandments my delight.
144 The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: grant me understanding, and I shall [d]live.
KOPH
145 I have [e]cried with my whole heart: hear me, O Lord, and I will keep thy statutes.
146 I called upon thee: save me, and I will keep thy testimonies.
147 I prevented the morning light, and cried: for I waited on thy word.
148 Mine eyes [f]prevent the night watches, to meditate in thy word.
149 Hear my voice according to thy loving kindness: O Lord, quicken me according to thy [g]judgment.
150 They draw near that follow after [h]malice, and are far from thy Law.
151 Thou art near, O Lord: for all thy commandments are true.
152 I have known long since [i]by thy testimonies, that thou hast established them forever.
RESH
153 Behold mine affliction, and deliver me: for I have not forgotten thy law.
154 Plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according unto thy [j]word.
155 Salvation is far from the wicked, because they seek not thy statutes.
156 Great art thy tender mercies, O Lord: quicken me according to thy [k]judgments.
157 My persecutors and mine oppressors are many: yet do I not swerve from thy testimonies.
158 I saw the transgressors and was [l]grieved, because they kept not thy word.
159 Consider, O Lord, how I [m]love thy precepts: quicken me according to thy loving kindness.
160 The [n]beginning of thy word is truth, and all the judgments of thy righteousness endure forever.
23 Job affirmeth that he both knoweth and feareth the power and sentence of the Judge, 10 And that he is not punished only for his sins.
1 But Job answered, and said,
2 Though my talk be this day in [a]bitterness, and my plague greater than my groaning,
3 Would God yet I knew how to find him, I would enter unto his place.
4 I would plead the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
5 I would know the words, that he would answer me, and would understand what he would say unto me.
6 Would he [b]plead against me with his great power? No, but he would [c]put strength in me.
7 [d]There the righteous might reason with him, so I should be delivered forever from my Judge.
8 [e]Behold, if I go to the East, he is not there: if to the West, yet I cannot perceive him:
9 If to the North where he worketh, yet I cannot see him: he will hide himself in the South, and I cannot behold him.
10 But he knoweth my [f]way, and trieth me, and I shall come forth like gold.
11 My foot hath followed his steps: his way have I kept, and have not declined:
12 Neither have I departed from the commandment of his lips, and I have [g]esteemed the words of his mouth more than mine appointed food.
43 ¶ The day following, Jesus would go into Galilee, and found Philip, and said unto him, Follow me.
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 [a]Philip found Nathanael, and said unto him, We have found him of whom (A)Moses did write in the Law, and the (B)Prophets, Jesus that Son of Joseph, that was of Nazareth.
46 [b]Then Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come, and see.
47 [c]Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, Behold indeed an Israelite, in whom is no guile.
48 [d]Nathanael said unto him, Whence knewest thou me? Jesus answered, and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49 Nathanael answered, and said unto him, Rabbi, thou art that Son of God: thou art that King of Israel.
50 Jesus answered, and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 And he said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see heaven open, and the Angels of God (C)[e]ascending, and descending upon that Son of man.
139 1 David cleanseth his heart from all hypocrisy, showeth that there is nothing so hid, which God seeth not. 13 Which he confirmeth by the creation of man. 14 After declaring his zeal and fear of God, he professeth to be enemy to all them that contemn God.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.
1 O Lord, thou hast tried me, and known me.
2 Thou knowest my [a]sitting and my rising: thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou [b]compassest my paths, and my lying down, and art accustomed to all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my [c]tongue, but lo, thou knowest it wholly, O Lord.
5 Thou holdest me strait behind and before, and layest thine [d]hand upon me.
6 Thy knowledge is too wonderful for me: it is so high that I cannot attain unto it.
7 Whither shall I go from thy [e]Spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I lie down in hell, thou art there.
9 Let me take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea:
10 Yet thither shall thine hand [f]lead me, and thy right hand hold me.
11 If I say, Yet the darkness shall hide me, even the night shall be [g]light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee: but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and light are both alike.
13 For thou hast [h]possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise thee, for I am [i]fearfully and wondrously made: marvelous are thy works, and my soul knoweth it well.
15 My bones are not hid from thee, though I was made in a secret place, and fashioned [j]beneath in the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see me, when I was without form: [k]for in thy book were all things written, which in continuance were fashioned, when there was none of them before.
17 How [l]dear therefore are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more than the sand: when I awake, [m]I am still with thee.
19 Oh that thou wouldest [slay], O God, the wicked and bloody men, to whom I say, Depart ye from me:
20 Which speak wickedly of thee, and being thine enemies are lifted up in vain.
21 Do not I [n]hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and do not I earnestly contend with those that rise up against thee?
22 I hate them with an unfeigned hatred, as they were mine utter enemies.
23 Try me, O God, and know mine heart: prove me and know my thoughts,
24 And consider if there be any [o]way of wickedness in me, and lead me in the [p]way forever.
20 ¶ Now there were certain Greeks among them that [a]came up to worship at the feast.
21 And they came to Philip, which was of Bethsaida in Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see that Jesus.
22 Philip came and told Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man must be glorified.
24 [b]Verily, verily I say unto you, Except the wheat corn fall into the ground and [c]die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
25 (A)He that loveth his life, shall lose it, and he that hateth his life in this world, shall keep it unto life eternal.
26 (B)If any man serve me, let him follow me: for where I am, there shall my servant be: and if any man serve me, him will my father honor.
