  1. Here is a list, by their names and clans, of Ishmael’s descendants: The oldest was Nebaioth, followed by Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
  2. When Isaac was forty years old, he married Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram and the sister of Laban the Aramean.

  16. Joseph named his older son Manasseh, for he said, “God has made me forget all my troubles and everyone in my father’s family.”
  17. So Joseph’s ten older brothers went down to Egypt to buy grain.
  18. After greeting them, he asked, “How is your father, the old man you spoke about? Is he still alive?”
  19. Joseph told each of his brothers where to sit, and to their amazement, he seated them according to age, from oldest to youngest.
  20. The palace manager searched the brothers’ sacks, from the oldest to the youngest. And the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack!
  21. And we responded, ‘Yes, my lord, we have a father who is an old man, and his youngest son is a child of his old age. His full brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother’s children, and his father loves him very much.’
  22. These are the names of the descendants of Israel—the sons of Jacob—who went to Egypt: Reuben was Jacob’s oldest son.
  23. “How old are you?” Pharaoh asked him.
  24. Later, when the boy was older, his mother brought him back to Pharaoh’s daughter, who adopted him as her own son. The princess named him Moses, for she explained, “I lifted him out of the water.”
