  1. John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”

  12. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
  13. If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside—
  14. After she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside. “The Teacher is here,” she said, “and is asking for you.”

  18. Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.
  19. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.
  20. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
  21. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha).
  22. He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered.
