⁷ They warred against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses, and ^(A)killed every male.

¹⁵ For ^(A)when David was in Edom, and Joab the commander of the army went up to bury the slain, he struck down every male in Edom ¹⁶ (for Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom).

¹¹ This is what you shall do: ^(A)every male and every woman that has lain with a male you shall devote to destruction.”

⁹ And David would strike the land and would leave neither man nor woman alive, but would take away the sheep, the oxen, the donkeys, the camels, and the garments, and come back to Achish.

³³ Now ^(A)all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the East came together, and they crossed the Jordan and encamped in ^(B)the Valley of Jezreel.

Midian Oppresses Israel

6 ^(A)The people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord gave them into the hand of ^(B)Midian seven years. ² And the hand of Midian overpowered Israel, and because of Midian the people of Israel made for themselves the dens that are in the mountains and ^(C)the caves and the strongholds.

¹³ And when the Lord your God gives it into your hand, ^(A)you shall put all its males to the sword, ^14 (B)but the women and the little ones, the livestock, and everything else in the city, all its spoil, you ^(C)shall take as plunder for yourselves. And ^(D)you shall enjoy the spoil of your enemies, which the Lord your God has given you.
