³ Then she said, “Here is my servant ^(A)Bilhah; go in to her, so that she may give birth ^(B)on my behalf,^[a] that even I may have children^[b] through her.”

²³ And Joseph saw Ephraim's children ^(A)of the third generation. The ^(B)children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were ^(C)counted as Joseph's own.^[a]

¹¹ Then all the people who were ^(A)at the gate and the elders said, “We are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman, who is coming into your house, like Rachel and Leah, ^(B)who together ^(C)built up the house of Israel. May you act worthily in ^(D)Ephrathah and ^(E)be renowned in Bethlehem,

⁹ When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took her servant Zilpah and ^(A)gave her to Jacob as a wife.

² And Sarai said to Abram, “Behold now, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children. Go in to my servant; it may be that I shall obtain children^[a] by her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai. ³ So, after Abram ^(A)had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her servant, and gave her to Abram her husband as a wife.
