Exodus 12:49
New English Translation
49 The same law will apply[a] to the person who is native-born and to the resident foreigner[b] who lives among you.”

- Exodus 12:49 tn Heb “one law will be to.”
- Exodus 12:49 sn The foreign resident, גֵּר (ger), in Mosaic Law was essentially a naturalized citizen and convert to worshiping the God of Israel (see notes at 12:19 and 48). The theme of having the same laws for native and foreign born Israelites appears in Exod 12:49; Lev 24:22; Num 9:14; 15:15, 16, 29. This equality is significant against the background of the ancient near east. The Code of Hammurapi, for example, distinguished different applications of law depending on social status.
