⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with ^(A)a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, ^(B)whom you have defied. ⁴⁶ This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. ^(C)And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day ^(D)to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, ^(E)that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,

⁴¹ “Likewise, when a foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, comes from a far country for your name's sake ⁴² (for they shall hear of your great name ^(A)and your mighty hand, and of your outstretched arm), when he comes and prays toward this house, ⁴³ hear in heaven your dwelling place and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to you, in order ^(B)that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and ^(C)fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that this house that I have built is called by your name.

³⁷ Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.”

¹⁹ So now, O Lord our God, save us, please, from his hand, ^(A)that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that ^(B)you, O Lord, are God alone.”

^22 (A)The glory that you have given me ^(B)I have given to them, ^(C)that they may be one even as we are one, ^23 (D)I in them and you in me, ^(E)that they may become perfectly one, ^(F)so that the world may know that you sent me and ^(G)loved them even as ^(H)you loved me.

¹⁶ In the same way, let your light shine before others, so ^(A)that^[a] they may see your good works and ^(B)give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
