"God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful."
— 1 Corinthians 1:27
I used to feel angry with God for the family He chose for me. I wanted a happy home, but had no choice but to grow up in a dysfunctional home that ended in divorce. I questioned why He chose to let me cry myself to sleep at night while my parents screamed at each other in the other room. Then, after I became a Christian at age 24, I questioned why God chose me to be an author if He created me with a learning disorder like dyslexia.
I don’t think it was God’s will that my parent’s marriage ended in divorce. But today I realize that my painful past and my parents’ mistakes do not have to determine my future. I have a choice.
I can choose to let God use my painful past to make me passionate for His plan for me. I can chose to use my parents’ divorce to compel me to stay married when times get tough in my own marriage. One good choice at a time is all God asks. We can choose to become a trophy of His grace, forgiveness, and mercy for the world to see. If everything in my life had gone the way I wanted it to, I might not have such passion for my God-given call as a Christian speaker and author. If it weren’t for my pain, I might not have the compassion I would need to care for those who have walked through similar trials in life.
My Daughter,
I want you to know that no matter what you have done, there is never a wrong time to do the right thing. There is no choice wrong enough, there is no chain strong enough and there is no time that's gone by long enough that can keep you from making things right in My sight. Now there may be those who refuse to allow you to make things right, but they are not the one who forgives you; I am. Yes, there will be consequences to bad choices, but I am the God who rebuilds what is broken. Remember, you can’t change what has happened, but you can build a new beginning...One choice at a time. Today is a new day and My mercies are new every morning. Now pray and ask Me to show you how to make things right and we will work through this together, Father and daughter.
Love,
Your Father who Knows What’s Best
“Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.”
