Jesus Feeds Four Thousand

In those days, when there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat, (A)Jesus called His disciples and *said to them, (B)I feel compassion for the crowd because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat. And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a great distance.” And His disciples answered Him, “Where will anyone be able to find enough [a]bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?” And He was asking them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.” And He *directed the crowd to [b]sit down on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks and broke them. And He kept giving them to His disciples to [c]serve to them, and they served them to the crowd. And they also had a few small fish; and (C)after He blessed them, He ordered these to be [d]served as well. And they ate and were satisfied; and they picked up seven large (D)baskets full of what was left over of the broken pieces. Now about four thousand were there, and He sent them away.

Jesus Feeds Four Thousand

32 (A)And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, (B)I feel compassion for the crowd, because they [a]have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” 33 And the disciples *said to Him, “Where would we get so many loaves in this desolate place to satisfy such a large crowd?” 34 And Jesus *said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few small fish.” 35 And He directed the crowd to [b]sit down on the ground; 36 and He took the seven loaves and the fish; and (C)giving thanks, He broke them and kept giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 37 And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, seven large (D)baskets full. 38 And those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.

39 And sending away the crowds, Jesus got into (E)the boat and came to the region of (F)Magadan.

34 And when Jesus went [a]ashore, He (A)saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because (B)they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things. 35 And when it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and began saying, “[b]This place is desolate and it is already quite late; 36 send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves [c]something to eat.” 37 But He answered and said to them, “You give them something to eat!” (C)And they *said to Him, “Shall we go and spend two hundred [d](D)denarii on bread and give them something to eat?” 38 And He *said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look!” And when they found out, they *said, “Five, and two fish.” 39 And He commanded them all to [e]sit down by [f]groups on the green grass. 40 And they [g]sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties. 41 And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He (E)blessed the food and broke the loaves. And He kept giving them to the disciples to set before them, and He divided up the two fish among them all. 42 And they all ate and were satisfied, 43 and they picked up twelve full (F)baskets of the broken pieces, and also of the fish. 44 And there were (G)five thousand men who ate the loaves.
