The NIV 365 Day Devotional
A New Identity
All of us can think of something we would like to change about ourselves— our height, weight, strength, intelligence, personality or something else. But when we berate ourselves, we fail to take into account that we were designed and created by God himself. Verse 13 of this psalm brings that fact into sharp focus.
At conception, each of us was smaller than the period at the end of this sentence. Yet the genetic code for everything we are and would be was contained in that small dot. Nine months later we were born as tiny human beings. What a miracle!
It’s easy to understand why many people start seeking God after the birth of a child. They’ve participated in the most incredible creative experience humans can have. But the wonder and love we feel at holding a new little life is barely a dim reflection of what God feels for each one of us!
The next time you become overly critical of yourself, read Psalm 139 again. Then consider thanking God for his involvement in your life and for caring about you with an unending love.
