Adventure Bible Family Devotions
In a raft floating down the Colorado River, Nathan and his stepfather listened to Marty, the guide. Their group was out West on a father-son church retreat. “There’s some serious whitewater ahead,” said Marty. “It’s a class-three rapids with major obstacles. This is what we’ve been practicing for. Ready, team?” Everyone raised their paddles and shouted, “Yeah!” Nathan and his stepdad grinned at each other. Then Nathan adjusted his glasses and gripped his paddle. As they rounded a bend, the water got rougher. “There’s our first obstacle!” shouted Marty, pointing at a huge, jagged rock. “Now, follow my commands. Left turn!” Nathan obeyed the guide’s orders, doing his part to steer the raft. At times paddling forward, at times back-paddling, he kept pace with everyone else. The guys all cheered as they passed the boulder, and Nathan was amazed at what they’d accomplished together.
Your sports team, your class at school, your family, and your church all need unity. When a group has unity, everyone is working together. They’re all following the same leader. Are you cooperating with your teammates, your classmates, your siblings, and your church group? Are you obeying your coach, your teachers, your parents, and Jesus?
Bible Verse: May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. – Romans 15:5-6
Words to Treasure: Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. – Ephesians 4:3
