And these words appeared in their sight as idle talk; and they disbelieved them.
But their report seemed to them like idle talk and nonsense, and they would not believe them.
But these reports seemed to the men an idle tale (madness, feigned things, nonsense), and they did not believe the women.

Their words struck the apostles as nonsense, and they didn’t believe the women.
But the emissaries didn’t believe them; in fact, they thought that what they said was utter nonsense!
The apostles thought it was all nonsense, and they would not believe.

But the apostles did not believe what they said. It sounded like nonsense.

The apostles thought that the women’s story didn’t make any sense, and they didn’t believe them.

It was Mary of Magdala, Joanna, the mother of James, and their companions who made this report to the apostles. But it struck them as sheer imagination, and they did not believe the women. Only Peter got up and ran to the tomb. He stooped down and saw the linen clothes lying there all by themselves, and he went home wondering at what had happened.
And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they did not believe them.

They left the tomb and broke the news of all this to the Eleven and the rest. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them kept telling these things to the apostles, but the apostles didn’t believe a word of it, thought they were making it all up.
But their words seemed like fables to them, and they did not believe them.

The Lord’s emissaries heard their stories as fiction, a lie; they didn’t believe a word of it. (By the way, this group of women included Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, along with a number of others.)

But Peter got up and ran to the grave. He bowed down and looked in. He saw the linen clothes lying there, but nothing more. Then he left, wondering about what had happened.
And these words were seen to them as madness [And these words were seen before them as madness], and they believed not to them.
