All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, ‘How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod!’
All ye that are round about him, bemoan him, and all ye that know his name; say, How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful rod!
“Show sympathy for him, all you [nations] who are around him, And all you [distant nations] who know his name; Say, ‘How has the mighty scepter [of national power] been broken, And the splendid staff [of glory]!’
Bemoan him, all you [nations] who are around him, and all you [nations more remote] who know his name; say, How broken is the mighty scepter [of national power] and the splendid rod [of glory]!
All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod!
Mourn for him, all you surrounding nations, everyone who knows his name. Say, “How the mighty scepter is shattered, the glorious staff!”
Grieve for this nation, you neighbors of Moab, all you who know his name. Proclaim how its mighty scepter and magnificent staff are shattered!
Pity him, all of you who are near him, all of you who know his name; say, “How the mighty scepter is shattered, that splendid staff!”
I will order the nearby nations to mourn for you and say, “Isn't it sad? Moab ruled others, but now its glorious power has been shattered.”
All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful rod!
Comfort him, all you that are round about him, and all you that know his name, say: How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful rod?
All you who live around Moab should cry for that country. You know how famous Moab is. So cry for it. Say, ‘The ruler’s power is broken. Moab’s power and glory is gone.’
You nations that live around Moab, you know how famous it has been. But now you must weep for it. Say, “Moab's royal power is finished! They no longer have great power to rule!”
Mourn for it, all you surrounding nations. All you who know its name say, “How the mighty scepter is broken, the glorious staff!”
Grieve for him, all you who are around him, and all who know his name; say, ‘How the mighty scepter is broken, the glorious staff.’

All you who live around Moab, cry for her. All you who know about her, cry for her. Say, ‘The ruler’s power is broken. Moab’s power and glory are gone.’

“Moab has always taken it easy— lazy as a dog in the sun, Never had to work for a living, never faced any trouble, Never had to grow up, never once worked up a sweat. But those days are a thing of the past. I’ll put him to work at hard labor. That will wake him up to the world of hard knocks. That will smash his illusions. Moab will be as ashamed of god Chemosh as Israel was ashamed of her Bethel calf-gods, the calf-gods she thought were so great. For how long do you think you’ll be saying, ‘We’re tough. We can beat anyone anywhere’? The destruction of Moab has already begun. Her choice young soldiers are lying dead right now.” The King’s Decree— his full name, God-of-the-Angel-Armies. “Yes. Moab’s doom is on countdown, disaster targeted and launched. Weep for Moab, friends and neighbors, all who know how famous he’s been. Lament, ‘His mighty scepter snapped in two like a toothpick, that magnificent royal staff!’
All you who are about him, mourn for him. And all you who know his name, say, “How the strong staff has been broken, the beautiful rod!”

All you who live around it, mourn for its people. Be sad, you who know how famous Moab is. Say, ‘Its powerful ruler’s scepter is broken! His glorious scepter is smashed.’
Mourn for her, all who live around her, all who know her fame; say, ‘How broken is the mighty scepter, how broken the glorious staff!’
Mourn for her, all who live around her, all who know her fame; say, “How broken is the mighty sceptre, how broken the glorious staff!”
