Isaiah 47:7
Print
And thou saidst, ‘I shall be a lady for ever,’ so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.
And thou saidst, I shall be mistress for ever; so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end thereof.
“And you said, ‘I shall be a queen forevermore.’ You did not consider these things, Nor did you [seriously] remember the [ultimate] outcome of such conduct.
And you said, I shall be the mistress forever! So you did not lay these things to heart, nor did you [seriously] remember the certain, ultimate end of such conduct.
¶ And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.
You said, ‘I will be the queen forever.’ You did not take these things to heart or think about their outcome.
You said, “I’m forever; I’m the eternal mistress.” You didn’t stop and think; you didn’t consider the outcome.
You said, ‘I will be mistress forever.’ so you didn’t consider these things or think about the consequences.
You thought that you would be queen forever. You didn't care what you did; it never entered your mind that you might get caught.
and thou saidst, I shall be a mistress for ever; so that thou didst not take these things to heart, thou didst not remember the end thereof.
And thou hast said: I shall be a lady for ever: thou hast not laid these things to thy heart, neither hast thou remembered thy latter end.
You said, ‘I will live forever. I will always be the queen.’ You didn’t care what you did to my people. You didn’t think about what might happen later.
You boasted, “I will rule other nations as queen for ever!” But you did not think about what you were doing. You did not think about what would happen in the end.
You said, “I will be a lady forever.” You did not take these things to heart. You did not remember how this will turn out.
You said, “I shall be mistress forever,” so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.
You said, “I shall be mistress for ever”, so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.
You said, ‘I will ·live [reign; be] forever as the queen.’ But you did not think about these things or consider ·what would happen [the outcome/end].
And thou saidest, I shall be a lady forever, so that thou didst not set thy mind to these things, neither didst thou remember the latter end thereof.
You said, “I will always be a queen.” You didn’t carefully consider these things or keep in mind how they would end.
You thought you would always be a queen, and did not take these things to heart or think how it all would end.
You said, ‘I will be the mistress forever.’ You did not take these things to heart or think about their outcome.
You said, ‘I will live forever. I will always be the queen.’ You did not think about these things. You did not think about what would happen.
You said, ‘I will always continue—Queen forever!’ You didn’t take these things into your thinking, nor did you think about their consequences.
¶ And thou didst say, I shall be a lady for ever. Until now thou hast not laid these things to heart, neither didst thou remember thy latter end.
And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.
And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.
Yet you said, ‘I will be a queen forever.’ These things you did not put on your heart Nor remember the outcome of them.
And you said, “I shall be an eternal mistress forever!” You did not set these things upon your heart; you did not remember its end.
You thought your reign would never end, Queen Kingdom of the world. You didn’t care a whit about my people or think about the fate of those who do them harm.
Our Redeemer speaks, named God-of-the-Angel-Armies, The Holy of Israel: “Shut up and get out of the way, daughter of Chaldeans. You’ll no longer be called ‘First Lady of the Kingdoms.’ I was fed up with my people, thoroughly disgusted with my progeny. I turned them over to you, but you had no compassion. You put old men and women to cruel, hard labor. You said, ‘I’m the First Lady. I’ll always be the pampered darling.’ You took nothing seriously, took nothing to heart, never gave tomorrow a thought. Well, start thinking, party girl. You’re acting like the center of the universe, Smugly saying to yourself, ‘I’m Number One. There’s nobody but me. I’ll never be a widow, I’ll never lose my children.’ Those two things are going to hit you both at once, suddenly, on the same day: Spouse and children gone, a total loss, despite your many enchantments and charms. You were so confident and comfortable in your evil life, saying, ‘No one sees me.’ You thought you knew so much, had everything figured out. What delusion! Smugly telling yourself, ‘I’m Number One. There’s nobody but me.’ Ruin descends— you can’t charm it away. Disaster strikes— you can’t cast it off with spells. Catastrophe, sudden and total— and you’re totally at sea, totally bewildered! But don’t give up. From your great repertoire of enchantments there must be one you haven’t yet tried. You’ve been at this a long time. Surely something will work. I know you’re exhausted trying out remedies, but don’t give up. Call in the astrologers and stargazers. They’re good at this. Surely they can work up something!
You said, “I shall be a queen forever,” but you did not take these things to heart, nor remember the outcome of them.
You said, “I will always be a queen.” You didn’t carefully consider these things or keep in mind how they would end.
You said, “I shall remain always, a sovereign mistress forever!” You did not take these things to heart, but disregarded their outcome.
Yet you said, ‘I will be a queen forever.’ These things you did not consider Nor remember the outcome of them.
“Yet you said, ‘I will be a queen forever.’ These things you did not consider Nor remember the outcome of them.
You said, “I will be a queen forever.” Thus you did not reflect carefully on your actions or give any consideration to their outcome.
You said, ‘I will live forever as the queen.’ But you did not think about these things or consider what would happen.
You said, ‘I will rule forever as permanent queen!’ You did not think about these things; you did not consider how it would turn out.
You said, ‘I am queen forever!’ But you did not think about what you were doing. You did not consider how things might turn out.
You said, ‘I am forever— the eternal queen!’ But you did not consider these things or reflect on what might happen.
You said, “I am for ever – the eternal queen!” But you did not consider these things or reflect on what might happen.
And you said, ‘I shall be a lady forever,’ So that you did not take these things to heart, Nor remember the latter end of them.
You said, ‘I will be a queen forever.’ So you did not think about these things, or remember what might happen.
You said, ‘I will reign forever as queen of the world!’ You did not reflect on your actions or think about their consequences.
You said, ‘I shall be mistress for ever’, so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.
You said, ‘I shall be mistress for ever’, so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.
You said, “I shall be mistress forever,” so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.
You said, “I shall be mistress forever,” so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.
And thou saidst, I shall be a Geveret ad l’olahm (Lady forever): so that thou didst not lay these things to thy lev, neither didst remember her [Babylon’s] acharit (latter end, i.e. future destruction).
“And you said, ‘I shall be a lady forever’, so that you did not set your mind to these things, nor did you remember their end result.
You said, “I shall be mistress for ever,” so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.
You said, “I shall be mistress for ever,” so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.
You said, “Forever, I will be the eternal mistress-queen!” You did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.
But You were carried away with your power, thinking you would always be in charge. You didn’t consider your limits or think about how all this would end.
You said, ‘I will be a princess forever,’ so that you didn’t lay these things to your heart, nor did you remember the results.
and thou saidest, Without end I shall be [a] lady (and thou saidest, I shall be a lady forever); thou puttedest not these things on thine heart, neither thou bethoughtest on thy last thing.
And thou sayest, `To the age I am mistress,' While thou hast not laid these things to thy heart, Thou hast not remembered the latter end of it.
