Then David went over to the other side and stood on the top of a hill afar off, a great space being between them.

David and Abishai crossed the valley and went to the top of the next hill, where they were at a safe distance.
And David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of a hill afar off; a great space [being] between them.
And when David was gone over to the other side. and stood on the top of the hill afar off, and a good space was between them,
David crossed over to the other side of the valley. He stood on top of the mountain across the valley from Saul’s camp. David and Saul’s camp were far apart.
David and Abishai then went across the valley to the other side of the hill. David stood on the top of the hill. He was far away from Saul's soldiers.
Then David moved over to a position across from the camp and stood on the top of the mountain some distance away. There was a lot of space between them.

They climbed the mountain slope opposite the camp until they were at a safe distance.
Then David went across to the opposite hill and stood far away on the top of the mountain. With this safe distance between them, he shouted across to the army and Abner son of Ner, “Hey, Abner! How long do I have to wait for you to wake up and answer me?” Abner said, “Who’s calling?”
Then David went over to the other side and stood on the top of a hill at a distance. A great space was between them.
