49:29–50:26 Believing in God’s promises to Abraham and Isaac about the Promised Land (13:15 and note), Jacob arranged for his burial with them in Canaan (49:29–32; cf. 47:29–31). Joseph also instructed his family to bury him in the Promised Land after the Exodus (50:24–26; cf. Josh. 24:32). The burial of Jacob in the ancestral cave and Joseph’s determination to be buried in Canaan underscore the covenant family’s solidarity and point forward to the Exodus from Egypt. The unity of the family is further emphasized by Joseph’s kind words and provisions for his offending brothers (50:15–21).
