8:1–18 The prophet sees four different types of idolatry flourishing in the city: (a) worship of the “image of jealousy” (vv. 5, 6); (b) worship of “beasts” (vv. 7–13); (c) the “Tammuz” cult (vv. 14, 15); and (d) worship of the “sun” (v. 16). All segments of society were involved: the elders (vv. 11, 12), the women (v. 14), and the priests (v. 16).
