40:48–41:4 Like Solomon’s temple before it, the temple of Ezekiel’s vision had three rooms: a vestibule or portico (40:48, 49); an outer sanctuary (41:1, 2); and the inner sanctuary or Most Holy Place (41:3, 4). The temple building was higher than the surrounding courtyard and reached by stairways leading to the portico (40:6 note). The increase in height represented increasing sanctity as one approached the inner room.
