31:12–17 The Sabbath commandment is reiterated and designated as the covenant sign of the Mosaic covenant (Gen. 9:12 note). To keep God’s Sabbath is to keep the covenant since the Sabbath is a sign of the special relationship between God and Israel. To disregard God’s Sabbath was to disregard God’s purposes for creation through His redemption of Israel.
