There were many altars in Israel, including those at Bethel (3:14), Dan (8:14), and Gilgal (Hos. 12:11). Their sins of sexual license and idolatry were compounded in that they slept on clothing taken as pledges for loans to the poor. Such garments were not to be kept overnight (Ex. 22:26; Deut. 24:12, 13).
