1:5 considered worthy. A life worthy of God (1 Thess. 2:12), of God’s calling (1:11; Eph. 4:1), of the Lord (Col. 1:10), of the gospel (Phil. 1:27, 28), or of the kingdom (v. 5) is a life of patient, joyful discipleship even in the face of life-threatening abuse from those hostile to the faith. Such lives are sure evidence that God’s judgment is right.
for which you are also suffering. Even while enjoying the benefits of citizenship in the heavenly kingdom (1 Thess. 2:12 note), Christians still must suffer for its sake (Acts 14:22), since the kingdom will inevitably confront diabolical opposition.
