MEPHAATH mĕf’ ĭ ăth (מֵפָֽעַת, מֵיפָ֖עַת, מﯴפָעַת). A city given to the tribe of Reuben (Josh 13:18), assigned to the Merarite Levites (Josh 21:37; 1 Chron 6:79). In Jeremiah 48:21 it appears as a Moabite town. It may be modern Jawah, c. six m. S of Amman.
