MEASURING LINE, Heb. חֶ֥בֶל מִדָּֽה, the meaning is identical to Zechariah 2:1. The noun חֶ֫בֶל֒, H2474, is used alone to signify a cord of definite length for measuring (Amos 7:17; Ps 78:55, et al.). A more common expression is קָּֽו, in the sense of a rope, string or cord for measuring or straightening (Job 38:5; Isa 44:13). It is mistranslated in KJV, properly “red chalk mark.”
