JABESH jā’ bĭsh (יָבֵ֔שׁ, dry.) 1. A short form of Jabesh-gilead.
2. The father of King Shallum of Israel, who murdered King Zechariah and usurped the throne (2 Kings 15:10, 13, 14). It is possible that “Shallum the son of Jabesh” may mean that Shallum was a native of the town of Jabesh, as in Isaiah 7:6 “the son of Tabeel” refers to a man whose home was in Tabeel.
