Iscariot [Īscăr'ĭot]—man of kerioth or a man of murder. The designation of the traitor is sometimes associated with scortea, a “leathern apron” which applied to Judas as the bearer of the bag, that is, “Judas with the apron.” The Hebrew ascara, implies strangling (angina), given him after his death (Matt. 10:4; John 6:71 RV).
