The Majesty of the Lord.

⁸ Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, ⁹ “Now behold, ^(A)I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your ^[a]descendants after you; ¹⁰ and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. ¹¹ I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall ^(B)never again be cut off by the water of the flood, ^(C)neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth.” ¹² God said, “This is ^(D)the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for ^[b]all successive generations; ¹³ I set My ^(E)bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. ¹⁴ It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, ¹⁵ and ^(F)I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and ^(G)never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. ¹⁶ When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the ^(H)everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” ¹⁷ And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

³⁹ When day came, ^(A)they ^[a]could not recognize the land; but they did observe a bay with a beach, and they resolved to drive the ship onto it if they could. ⁴⁰ And casting off ^(B)the anchors, they left them in the sea while at the same time they were loosening the ropes of the rudders; and hoisting the foresail to the wind, they were heading for the beach. ⁴¹ But striking a ^[b]reef where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground; and the prow stuck fast and remained immovable, but the stern began to be broken up by the force of the waves. ⁴² The soldiers’ plan was to ^(C)kill the prisoners, so that none of them would swim away and escape; ⁴³ but the centurion, ^(D)wanting to bring Paul safely through, kept them from their intention, and commanded that those who could swim should ^[c]jump overboard first and get to land, ⁴⁴ and the rest should follow, some on planks, and others on various things from the ship. And so it happened that ^(E)they all were brought safely to land.
