Old/New Testament
Your Name, O Lord, Endures For Ever
135 (A)Praise the Lord!
Praise the name of the Lord,
give praise, O (B)servants of the Lord,
2 who (C)stand in the house of the Lord,
in (D)the courts of the house of our God!
3 Praise the Lord, for (E)the Lord is good;
sing to his name, (F)for it is pleasant![a]
4 For the Lord has (G)chosen Jacob for himself,
Israel as his (H)own possession.
5 For I know that (I)the Lord is great,
and that our Lord is above all gods.
6 (J)Whatever the Lord pleases, he does,
in heaven and on earth,
in the seas and all deeps.
7 (K)He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth,
who (L)makes lightnings for the rain
and brings forth the wind from his (M)storehouses.
8 He it was who (N)struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
both of man and of beast;
9 who in your midst, O Egypt,
sent (O)signs and wonders
against Pharaoh and all his servants;
10 (P)who struck down many nations
and killed mighty kings,
11 (Q)Sihon, king of the Amorites,
and (R)Og, king of Bashan,
and (S)all the kingdoms of Canaan,
12 and (T)gave their land as a heritage,
a heritage to his people Israel.
13 (U)Your name, O Lord, endures for ever,
(V)your renown,[b] O Lord, throughout all ages.
14 (W)For the Lord will vindicate his people
and (X)have compassion on his servants.
15 (Y)The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.
16 They have mouths, but do not speak;
they have eyes, but do not see;
17 they have ears, but do not hear,
nor is there any breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them become like them,
so do all who trust in them!
19 (Z)O house of Israel, bless the Lord!
O house of Aaron, bless the Lord!
20 O house of Levi, bless the Lord!
You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!
21 Blessed be the Lord (AA)from Zion,
he who (AB)dwells in Jerusalem!
(AC)Praise the Lord!
His Steadfast Love Endures For Ever
136 (AD)Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
(AE)for his steadfast love endures for ever.
2 Give thanks to (AF)the God of gods,
for his steadfast love endures for ever.
3 Give thanks to (AG)the Lord of lords,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
4 to him who alone (AH)does great wonders,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
5 to him who (AI)by understanding (AJ)made the heavens,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
6 to him who (AK)spread out the earth (AL)above the waters,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
7 to him who (AM)made the great lights,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
8 the sun to rule over the day,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
9 the moon and stars to rule over the night,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
10 to him who (AN)struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
11 and (AO)brought Israel out from among them,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
12 with (AP)a strong hand and an outstretched arm,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
13 to him who (AQ)divided the Red Sea in two,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
14 (AR)and made Israel pass through the midst of it,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
15 but (AS)overthrew[c] Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
16 to him who (AT)led his people through the wilderness,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
17 to him (AU)who struck down great kings,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
18 and killed mighty kings,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
19 Sihon, king of the Amorites,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
20 and Og, king of Bashan,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
21 and gave their land as a heritage,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
22 a heritage to Israel his (AV)servant,
for his steadfast love endures for ever.
23 It is he who (AW)remembered us in our low estate,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
24 and (AX)rescued us from our foes,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
25 he who (AY)gives food to all flesh,
for his steadfast love endures for ever.
26 Give thanks to (AZ)the God of heaven,
for his steadfast love endures for ever.
Spiritual Gifts
12 Now (A)concerning[a] spiritual gifts,[b] brothers,[c] I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that (B)when you were pagans (C)you were led astray to (D)mute idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I want you to understand that (E)no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is (F)accursed!” and (G)no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.
4 Now (H)there are varieties of gifts, but (I)the same Spirit; 5 and (J)there are varieties of service, but (K)the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is (L)the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 (M)To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of (N)wisdom, and to another the utterance of (O)knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another (P)faith by the same Spirit, to another (Q)gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another (R)the working of miracles, to another (S)prophecy, to another (T)the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another (U)various kinds of tongues, to another (V)the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, (W)who apportions to each one individually (X)as he wills.
One Body with Many Members
12 For just as (Y)the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, (Z)so it is with Christ. 13 For (AA)in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—(AB)Jews or Greeks, slaves[d] or free—and (AC)all were made to drink of one Spirit.
14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body”, that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body”, that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, (AD)God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, (AE)as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts,[e] yet one body.
21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”, nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honourable we bestow the greater honour, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honour to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honoured, (AF)all rejoice together.
27 Now (AG)you are the body of Christ and individually (AH)members of it. 28 And (AI)God has appointed in the church first (AJ)apostles, second (AK)prophets, third teachers, then (AL)miracles, then (AM)gifts of healing, (AN)helping, (AO)administrating, and (AP)various kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But (AQ)earnestly desire the higher gifts.
And I will show you a still more excellent way.
