Old/New Testament
Psalm 94
The Just Judge
1 Lord, God of vengeance—
God of vengeance, shine!(A)
2 Rise up, Judge of the earth;
repay the proud what they deserve.(B)
3 Lord, how long will the wicked—
how long will the wicked celebrate?(C)
4 They pour out arrogant words;
all the evildoers boast.(D)
5 Lord, they crush your people;
they oppress your heritage.(E)
6 They kill the widow and the resident alien
and murder the fatherless.(F)
7 They say, “The Lord doesn’t see it.
The God of Jacob doesn’t pay attention.”(G)
8 Pay attention, you stupid people!
Fools, when will you be wise?(H)
9 Can the one who shaped the ear not hear,
the one who formed the eye not see?(I)
10 The one who instructs nations,
the one who teaches mankind knowledge—
does he not discipline?(J)
11 The Lord knows the thoughts of mankind;
they are futile.(K)
12 Lord, how happy is anyone you discipline
and teach from your law(L)
13 to give him relief from troubled times
until a pit is dug for the wicked.(M)
14 The Lord will not leave his people
or abandon his heritage,(N)
15 for the administration of justice will again be righteous,
and all the upright in heart will follow[a] it.(O)
16 Who stands up for me against the wicked?
Who takes a stand for me against evildoers?(P)
17 If the Lord had not been my helper,
I would soon rest in the silence of death.(Q)
18 If I say, “My foot is slipping,”
your faithful love will support me, Lord.(R)
19 When I am filled with cares,
your comfort brings me joy.(S)
20 Can a corrupt throne be your ally,
a throne that makes evil laws?(T)
21 They band together against the life of the righteous
and condemn the innocent to death.(U)
22 But the Lord is my refuge;
my God is the rock of my protection.(V)
23 He will pay them back for their sins
and destroy them for their evil.
The Lord our God will destroy them.(W)
Psalm 95
Worship and Warning
1 Come, let’s shout joyfully to the Lord,
shout triumphantly to the rock of our salvation!(X)
2 Let’s enter his presence with thanksgiving;
let’s shout triumphantly to him in song.(Y)
3 For the Lord is a great God,
a great King above all gods.(Z)
4 The depths of the earth are in his hand,
and the mountain peaks are his.(AA)
5 The sea is his; he made it.
His hands formed the dry land.(AB)
6 Come, let’s worship and bow down;
let’s kneel before the Lord our Maker.(AC)
7 For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
the sheep under his care.[b](AD)
Today, if you hear his voice:(AE)
8 Do not harden your hearts as at Meribah,
as on that day at Massah in the wilderness(AF)
9 where your ancestors tested me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.(AG)
10 For forty years I was disgusted with that generation;
I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray;
they do not know my ways.”(AH)
11 So I swore in my anger,
“They will not enter my rest.”(AI)
Psalm 96(AJ)
King of the Earth
1 Sing a new song to the Lord;
let the whole earth sing to the Lord.(AK)
2 Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
proclaim his salvation from day to day.(AL)
3 Declare his glory among the nations,
his wondrous works among all peoples.(AM)
4 For the Lord is great and is highly praised;
he is feared above all gods.(AN)
5 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.(AO)
6 Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.(AP)
7 Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.(AQ)
8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name;(AR)
bring an offering and enter his courts.(AS)
9 Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness;(AT)
let the whole earth tremble before him.(AU)
10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.(AV)
The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken.(AW)
He judges the peoples fairly.”(AX)
11 Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice;
let the sea and all that fills it resound.(AY)
12 Let the fields and everything in them celebrate.
Then all the trees of the forest will shout for joy(AZ)
13 before the Lord, for he is coming—
for he is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness
and the peoples with his faithfulness.(BA)
From Jerusalem to Illyricum
14 My brothers and sisters, I myself am convinced about you that you also are full of goodness,(A) filled with all knowledge,(B) and able to instruct one another. 15 Nevertheless, I have written to remind you more boldly on some points[a] because of the grace given me by God(C) 16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles,(D) serving as a priest of the gospel of God.(E) God’s purpose is that the Gentiles may be an acceptable offering,(F) sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 Therefore I have reason to boast in Christ Jesus(G) regarding what pertains to God.(H) 18 For I would not dare say anything except what Christ has accomplished through me(I) by word and deed for the obedience of the Gentiles, 19 by the power of miraculous signs and wonders,(J) and by the power of God’s Spirit. As a result, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ from Jerusalem(K) all the way around to Illyricum.[b](L) 20 My aim is to preach the gospel where Christ has not been named,(M) so that I will not build on someone else’s foundation,(N) 21 but, as it is written,
Paul’s Travel Plans
22 That is why I have been prevented many times from coming to you.(P) 23 But now I no longer have any work to do in these regions,[d] and I have strongly desired for many years to come to you(Q) 24 whenever I travel to Spain.[e] For I hope to see you when I pass through and to be assisted by you for my journey there,(R) once I have first enjoyed your company(S) for a while. 25 Right now I am traveling to Jerusalem(T) to serve the saints,(U) 26 because Macedonia(V) and Achaia(W) were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. 27 Yes, they were pleased, and indeed are indebted to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual benefits,(X) then they are obligated to minister to them in material needs. 28 So when I have finished this and safely delivered the funds[f] to them,[g](Y) I will visit you on the way to Spain. 29 I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing[h] of Christ.
30 Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit,(Z) to strive together with me in prayers to God on my behalf.(AA) 31 Pray that I may be rescued from the unbelievers in Judea,(AB) that my ministry to[i] Jerusalem(AC) may be acceptable to the saints,(AD) 32 and that, by God’s will,(AE) I may come to you with joy(AF) and be refreshed together with you.
33 May the God of peace be with all of you.(AG) Amen.
