1 After these things faithfully described, (A)Sennacherib king of Assyria came and entered into Judah, and besieged the strong cities, and thought to [a]win them for himself.
2 When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that his [b]purpose was to fight against Jerusalem,
3 Then he took counsel with his princes and his nobles, to stop the water of the fountains without the city: and they did help him.
4 So many of the people assembled themselves, and stopped all the fountains, and the river that ran through the midst of the country, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?
5 And [c]he took courage, and built all the broken wall, and made up the towers, and another wall without, and repaired [d]Millo in the [e]city of David, and made many [f]darts and shields.
6 And he set captains of war over the people, and assembled them to him in the broad place of the gate of the city, and [g]spake comfortably unto them, saying,
7 Be strong and courageous: fear not, neither be afraid for the king of Assyria, neither for all the multitude that is with him: (B)for there be more with us, then is with him.
8 With him is an [h]arm of flesh, but with us is the [i]Lord our God for to help us, and to fight our battles. Then the people were confirmed by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
9 (C)After this, did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem (while he was [j]against Lachish, and all his dominion with him) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
10 Thus saith Sennacherib the king of Assyria, Wherein do ye trust, that ye will remain in Jerusalem, during the siege?
11 Doth not Hezekiah entice you to give over yourselves unto death by famine and by thirst, saying, The Lord our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places, and his [k]altars, and commanded Judah, and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?
13 Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other countries? were the gods of the nations of other lands able to deliver their land out of mine hand?
14 Who is he of all the [l]gods of those nations (that my fathers have destroyed) that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?
15 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor seduce you after this sort, neither believe ye him: for none of all the gods of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of [m]mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your gods deliver you out of mine hand?
16 And his servants spake yet more against the Lord God, and against his [n]servant Hezekiah.
17 He wrote also letters, blaspheming the Lord God of Israel, and speaking against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other countries could not deliver their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.
18 Then they [o]cried with a loud voice in the Jews speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to fear them and to astonish them, that they might take the city.
19 Thus they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, even the [p]works of man’s hands,
20 But Hezekiah the King, and the Prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz [q]prayed against this and cried to heaven.
21 And the Lord sent an Angel, which destroyed all the valiant men, and the princes and [r]captains of the host of the king of Assyria: so he returned [s]with shame to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his [t]own bowels, slew him there with the sword.
22 So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and [u]maintained them on every side.
23 And many brought offerings unto the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was [v]magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.
24 (D)In those days Hezekiah was sick unto the death, and prayed unto the Lord, who spake unto him, and gave him [w]a sign.
25 But Hezekiah did not render according to the reward bestowed upon him: for his heart [x]was lifted up, and wrath came upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
26 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself (after that his heart was lifted up) he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the wrath of the Lord came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
27 Hezekiah also had exceeding much riches and honor, and he got him treasures of silver, and of gold, and of precious stones, and of sweet odors, and of shields, and of all pleasant vessels:
28 And of store houses for the increase of wheat and wine and oil, and stalls for all beasts, and [y]rows for the [z]stables.
29 And he made him cities, and had possession of sheep and oxen in abundance: for God had given him substance exceeding much.
30 This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper water springs of [aa]Gihon, and led them straight underneath toward the city of David Westward: so Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
31 But because of the ambassadors of the princes of Babel, which sent unto him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him to [ab]try him, and to know all that was in his heart.
32 Concerning the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the Prophet the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
33 So Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the highest sepulcher of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death, and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
18 2 The horrible destruction of Babylon set out. 11, 16, 18 The merchants of the earth, who were enriched with the pomp and luxuriousness of it, weep and wail: 20 but all the elect rejoice for that just vengeance of God.
1 [a]And after these things, I saw another [b]Angel come down from heaven, having great power, so that the earth was lightened with his glory,
2 And he cried out mightily with a loud voice, [c]saying, (A)It is fallen, it is fallen, Babylon that great city, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of all foul spirits, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunken of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich of the abundance of her pleasures.
4 [d]And I heard another voice from heaven say, [e]Go out of her, my people, that ye be not [f]partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues:
5 For her sins are [g]come up into heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6 [h]Reward her, even as she hath rewarded you, and give her double according to her works: and in the cup that she hath filled to you, fill her the double.
7 Inasmuch as she glorified herself, and lived in pleasure, so much give ye to her torment and sorrow: for she saith [i]in her heart, I sit being a queen, and am [j]no widow, and shall [k]see no mourning.
8 Therefore shall her plagues come at [l]one day, death, and sorrow, and famine, and she shall be burnt with fire: for that God which condemneth her, is a strong Lord,
9 And the [m]kings of the earth shall bewail her, and lament for her, which have committed fornication, and lived in pleasure with her, when they shall see that smoke of that her burning,
10 And shall stand afar off for fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city: for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 [n]And the merchants of the earth shall weep and wail over her: for no man buyeth their ware anymore.
12 The ware of gold, and silver, and of precious stone, and of pearls, and of fine linen, and of purple, and of silk, and of scarlet, and of all manner of Thynewood, and of all vessels of ivory, and of all vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and of iron, and of marble,
13 And of cinnamon, and odors, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and servants, and souls of men.
14 ([o]And the [p]apples that thy soul lusted after, are departed from thee, and all things which were fat and excellent, are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more.)
15 The merchants of these things which were waxed rich, shall stand afar off from her, for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing.
16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen and purple, and scarlet, and gilded with gold, and precious stones, and pearls.
17 [q]For in one hour so great riches are come to desolation. And every shipmaster, and all the people that occupy ships and shipmen, and whosoever traffic on the sea, shall stand afar off.
18 And cry, when they see that smoke of that her burning, saying, What city was like unto this great city?
19 And they shall cast dust on their heads, and cry, weeping, and wailing, and say, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships on the sea by her coastlines: for in one hour she is made desolate.
20 [r]O heaven, rejoice of her, and ye holy Apostles and Prophets: for God hath punished her, to be revenged on her for your sakes.
21 [s]Then a mighty Angel took up a stone, like a great millstone, (B)and cast it into the sea, saying, With such violence shall that great city Babylon be cast and shall be found no more.
22 [t]And the voice of harpers, and musicians and of pipers, and trumpeters shall be heard no more in thee, and no craftsman, of whosoever craft he be, shall be found anymore in thee: and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more in thee.
23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more in thee: and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth: and with thine enchantment were deceived all nations.
24 And in her was found the [u]blood of the Prophets [v]and of the Saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
14 8 Of the doctrine that shall proceed out of the Church, and of the restoration thereof.
1 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be [a]divided in the midst of thee.
2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be taken, and the houses spoiled, and the women defiled, and half of the city shall go into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then the Lord shall go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he [b]fought in the day of battle.
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the [c]mount of olives, which is before Jerusalem on the Eastside, and the mount of olives shall cleave in the midst thereof: toward the East and toward the West there shall be a very great [d]valley, and half of the mountain shall remove toward the North, and half of the mountain toward the South.
5 And ye shall flee unto the [e]valley of the mountains: for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee like as ye fled from the [f]earthquake, in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord [g]my God shall come, and all the Saints with thee.
6 And in that day shall there be no clear light but dark.
7 And there shall be a day (it is known to the Lord) [h]neither day nor night, but about the evening time it shall be light.
8 And in that day shall there [i]waters of life go out from Jerusalem, half of them toward the East sea, and half of them toward the uttermost sea, and shall be, both in summer and winter.
9 And the Lord shall be King over all the earth: in that day shall there be one [j]Lord, and his Name shall be one.
10 All the land shall be turned [k]as a plain from Geba to Rimmon, toward the South of Jerusalem, and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place: from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananiel unto the king’s winepresses.
11 And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more destruction, but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all people, that have fought against Jerusalem: their flesh shall consume away, though they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume in their holes, and their tongue shall consume in their mouth.
13 But in that day [l]a great tumult of the Lord shall be among them, and everyone shall take [m]the hand of his neighbor, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbor.
14 And Judah shall fight also against Jerusalem, and the arm of all the heathen shall be gathered round about, with [n]gold and silver, and great abundance of apparel.
15 Yet this shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel and of the ass, and of all the beasts that be in these tents at this [o]plague.
16 But it shall come to pass that everyone that is left of all the nations, which came against Jerusalem, shall go up from year to year to worship the King the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of Tabernacles.
17 And who so will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King the Lord of hosts, even upon them shall come no rain.
18 And if the family of [p]Egypt go not up, and come not, it shall not rain upon them. This shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the heathen, that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations that come not up to keep the feast of Tabernacles.
20 In that day shall there be written upon the [q]bridles of the horses, The holiness unto the Lord, and the [r]pots in the Lord’s house shall be like the bowls before the altar.
21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holy unto the Lord of hosts, [s]and all they that sacrifice, shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.
17 1 Christ prayeth that his glory together with his Father’s may be made manifest. 9 He Prayeth for his Apostles, 20 and for all believers.
1 These [a]things spake Jesus, and lift up his eyes to heaven, and said, [b]Father, that hour is come: glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee,
2 (A)As thou hast given him power over [c]all flesh, that he should give eternal life to all them that thou hast given him.
3 And this is life eternal, that they know thee to be the [d]only very God, and whom thou hast sent, Jesus Christ.
4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
5 And now glorify me, thou Father, with thine own self, with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
6 [e]I have declared thy Name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: [f]thine they were, and thou [g]gavest them me, and they have kept thy word.
7 (B)Now they know that all things whatsoever thou hast given me, are of thee.
8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me, and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and have believed that thou hast sent me.
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me: for they are thine.
10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them.
11 And now am I no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy Name, even them whom thou hast given me, that they may be [h]one as we are.
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy Name: those that thou gavest me, have I kept, and none of them is lost, but the child of perdition, that the (C)Scripture might be fulfilled.
13 And now come I to thee, and these things speak I in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have given them thy word, and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world.
15 [i]I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou keep them from evil.
16 They are not of the world, as I am not of the world.
17 [j]Sanctify them with thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 [k]As thou didst send me into the world, so have I sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes sanctify I myself, that they also may be sanctified through the [l]truth.
20 [m]I pray not for these alone, but for them also which shall believe in me, through their word,
21 That they all may be one, as thou, O Father, art in me, and I in thee: even that they may be also one in us, that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory that thou gavest me, I have given them, that they may be one, as we are one,
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them as thou hast loved me.
24 (D)Father, I will that they which thou hast given me, be with me even where I am, that they may behold that my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, the world also hath not known thee, but I have known thee, and these have known, that thou hast sent me.
26 [n]And I have declared unto them thy Name, and will declare it, that the love wherewith thou hast loved me, may be in them, and I in them.
